Classic by David Beckham

Sells well with a citrus opening that initially resembles other Beckham fragrances like Instinct or Classic Homme, but as it dries down, that round, almost sweet amber note takes over. Mixed with the lingering citrus, it evokes a sweet, soapy, and powdery scent. If you read it contains gin, you might think of a gin tonic, which brings it closer to Bensimon Brave from Argentina. I just wish it had better longevity…

Another disappointment, mediocre performance and stingy, how can they not notice this? Smells like gin and tonic, lemon peel, clean as English cologne. I use it to scent sheets and pillows before bed and that’s where it works… I must be less impulsive and test before buying.

It doesn’t smell bad, but it competes with the Antonio Banderas fragrances in the category of worst performance. I tried it in a store, and after 20 minutes, I had to press my nose against my hand to detect it. The only use I see for it is as an aftershow bath cologne.

Intimately by David Beckham has become one of my favourite scents, so I’m fully open to trying any DB fragrances that come my way. I’ll admit I bought it out of greed; I picked up a 40ml tester at a bargain price. I was intrigued by its appealing notes: gin, cypress, mint, nutmeg… Classic by DB isn’t a bad eau de toilette, but it doesn’t say much to me. I think it’s made for someone who just wants to smell slightly nice without drawing attention. It’s certainly ideal for the office; you won’t attract any attention at all. The opening notes remind me of a fragrance from Springfield that I used to dry my pimples with in my teenage years, but in the heart, I perceive a realistic cypress scent that I like. The dry-down pleases me, but it sits right on the skin; it’s a classic, simple cologne scent that’s not memorable. It’s a shame that perfumes are meant for a certain age, but I imagine it would suit men aged 40 and above. Lately, I prefer polarised or charming or extreme scents, but this Classic is too harmless and low-profile; I know I’m asking for the moon and stars. Anyway, I’ll keep using it because I know my opinion might change with wear.

David Beckham Classic: BBB – Good, Pretty and Cheap. It’s a fragrance whose opening feels somewhat synthetic; although it does lean towards artificial, it still has its charm. A complex cashmere wood where you can detect the musk alongside a balsamic vanilla that evokes the scent of old book pages. It’s an authentic and aromatic combination with a very soft sweet tone thanks to the amber, which leaves room for a pleasant herbal freshness. I don’t find any similarity to Dolce & Gabbana The One; they are completely different. Given its price and scent, it’s worth it for regular use in the office or for formal and informal meetings; it’s very versatile. Scent: 8.0. Projection: one hour strong, then perceptible until two hours. Longevity: six hours (three hours close to the skin). Recommended.

Madness-level intensity yet with a soft touch; a perfect classic for going out at night, very elegant.
