Top fragrance, I was absolutely blown away by the longevity and projection. It lasts over 12 hours on the skin and the trail is beastly; just be careful with the spray as it can easily overwhelm. I can’t quite put my finger on what it smells like, nothing I’ve encountered is similar, but I reckon it’s more suited to men over 25.

  • It seems that today’s reformulations of iconic perfumes have been compromised, at least in my country, Colombia. This fragrance was once one of the most sought-after and prized, among the most expensive in Yanbal’s catalogue. Wearing it was a status symbol; I saw it on people with high purchasing power. Back then, in 2004, it wasn’t for everyone to wear this olfactory jewel. It cost 140,000 Colombian pesos, housed in an emerald green bottle with embossed vertical lines. I vividly remember the scent was exquisite, long-lasting, and left a trail like a nuclear bomb. When I tried it again, I was profoundly disappointed: visually, the design has changed, the embossed lines are gone; the scent is now merely (sarcasm) generic and chemical, as if made with indifference. The original was of quality and care. Regarding the price: I’m not elitist; I appreciate niche, vintage, or discontinued scents, some very expensive, others good and affordable imitations, but I believe they have lowered not just the price but the quality of materials, perhaps to make it more accessible. On the plus side: nowadays, designers reformulate by either lowering quality or raising prices. Another fragrance that saddens me; reformulations are an assault on olfactory memory and deeply tragic because they deny new generations the chance to enjoy masterpieces of the past, simply to make money at the expense of the customer’s happiness. That is the current mantra: mediocrity is everywhere, and perfumery is no exception. Returning to the topic: Only Yanbal vintage, a wonderful fragrance. The current version is mediocre, soulless, just another one of the crowd. From a magnificent fragrance, all that remains is ‘S-O-L-O’.

  • It seems that the reformulations of perfume icons today have affected them. In my country, Colombia, that fragrance was one of the most sought-after and prized; it was one of the most expensive in the Yanbal catalogue. Wearing it was a sign of status; I saw it on people with good purchasing power, not just anyone could wear it in its time, speaking of the year 2004. Then it was worth 140,000 Colombian pesos. The bottle was emerald green with vertical lines in high relief; I remember very well that the scent was exquisite, with long-lasting power and a nuclear bomb-style trail. I tried it again and it deeply disappointed me: visually, the bottle design changed and no longer has the vertical lines; the scent is now very generic and chemical, as if made with negligence, just to produce it. The old one had quality materials and more care. The price: I am not elitist, I use niche, vintage or discontinued scents, some very expensive, others good and cheap imitations. But I believe they reduced it not only in price but in material quality, perhaps to make it more accessible. On the plus side: nowadays designer fragrances reformulate by lowering quality or maintain the price. Another fragrance that saddens me: reformulations are an attack on olfactory memory. Denying new generations the enjoyment of past masterpieces solely to make money at the expense of customer happiness is the current mantra; mediocrity is everywhere and has affected the perfume industry too. Returning to the topic: Solo by Yanbal vintage, a wonderful fragrance. The current one is mediocre, soulless, just another one of the crowd. From a magnificent fragrance, that (sarcastic) ‘S-O-L-O’ remains.

This is my favourite for important meetings; I love it, it is soft, rich and not cloying. I recommend it 100%.

  • This perfume is my absolute favourite for important meetings; I adore it. It’s soft, rich, and not overly sweet, honestly. I’d recommend it a hundred per cent.

Today, July 2020, its reformulation has slightly reduced the intensity and now the green notes are more noticeable; for me, it lacks declared notes, such as cypress or vetiver. At times it reminds me of Encre Noire Sport by Lalique and other dark greens; it no longer marks that leather as before. In fact, I find it more versatile. Longevity: high, trail: medium, projection: medium, scent: 8/10.

I have never smelled anything so unpleasant since I tried Club de Nuit Intense. What a pituitary paralysis!

  • I love this fragrance so much; when I was a small child, my father used a 5 ml miniature of Azzaro Pour Homme, so I remember it vividly and adore it. On several occasions, when passing people who wore Solo by Yanbal, it reminded me of Azzaro and I was surprised it wasn’t the same, although they did recognise it. Definitely it is not the same, but the quality of Yanbal is monstrous in terms of longevity and trail, always exquisite. When I went on my second date with my current girlfriend, I used quite a few sprays and it didn’t wear me out or become overpowering; I gave her a halo of masculinity. We danced and embraced, and the next day, when greeting via text, she said her hair smelled of me, of Solo by Yanbal, and that she loved it because it reminded her of me. Yanbal is my favourite home alongside Natura, incredible at a level equal to or better than many designers, with nothing to envy.

  • I simply adore these fragrances. When I was young, my dad gifted me a 5ml Azzaro for Him, and I still vividly remember that scent, which I love. On several occasions, I’ve mentioned it smells like Solo by Yanbal, and people immediately think of Azzaro. I’m surprised they aren’t identical, yet it bears an uncanny resemblance. It’s impossible to ignore Yanbal’s quality; it’s a monster in terms of longevity and projection, always smelling exquisite. On my second date with my current girlfriend, I wore this, applied several sprays, and neither got tired nor overwhelmed. I carried a masculine aura all evening. We danced and embraced, and the craziest part is that the next day she messaged to say her hair smelled like me, like Solo by Yanbal. She loved it because it reminded her of him and the wonderful scent. Yanbal is my favourite brand alongside Natura, incredible, on par with or even better than designer houses, nothing to envy.

I have the unreformulated version (I suppose) and the trail is tremendous, just like the longevity. You can detect more notes than stated: an initial camphorated and mentholated opening, a heart of green apple and a beautiful dry-down. It is more discreet and gentle, spiced, sweet and warm with cinnamon. A wonderful classic!

  • Mónica Cecilia

I have the unreformulated version (I suppose) because the projection is tremendous and so is the longevity. More notes are perceptible than listed in the description. Initially, it smells of camphor and mint, then a green apple note emerges. The dry-down is lovely, much more discreet and gentle. It smells of spices, sweet and warm, with cinnamon. A wonderful classic!

  • This fragrance doesn’t envy the expensive ones; it has an incredible trail and lasts over 10 hours. It’s a versatile scent at a very affordable price.

  • This perfume does not envy the expensive ones: a brutal trail, over 10 hours of longevity, a versatile scent and a very accessible price.

  • Before, it reminded me of a rainforest at night in the rain; now it smells more synthetic, but there it is… the important thing is that it still lasts.

  • Andrés88

I find it intense, masculine and intriguing. I think it suits older people better than teenagers; from the age of 25, it’s brilliant for making a statement at the start.

  • Bryan Parfums

Good scent, but it falls into the category of very old people, like eighties types. Excellent performance. Not my taste, it smells like classic Azzaro. Cheers.

  • Victor_Peru_2023

Crazy what I say, but when I smelled Dior Elixir and its clone Asad by Lattafa, Solo by Yanbal came to mind. I couldn’t see the common note until I saw that Solo has tangerine peel, exactly what I feel in the other two, although they say they don’t have it. Perhaps it’s the bergamot, that bitter citrus touch of the peels.

  • Darkingstom

Some love it, others hate it. I love it, but my parents remind them of the esoteric markets in my city, and that’s exactly what I liked as a child coming out of school seeing bottles, incense and plants. The formula says leather, ginger and fig, but I think there’s more, the perfumer’s secret. It’s an esoteric market scent, mature, strong and penetrating, as a perfume should be and not a cologne. For everyday use, try one drop behind each ear to not bother at work; if it doesn’t bother, add more. Very strong scent, great projection and not for everyone, but for those who want it, it’s a bargain: price, performance and quality. Smells very natural, not synthetic.

  • Yanbal with lots of personality and a classic that has aged well without losing projection. For the price and intensity with few sprays, it’s pure quality. If you like the scent, you’ll love it for its other qualities. I loved it despite the fact that it’s very popular in Latam. Totally top tier from Yanbal; I’d like them to add the missing ones like Osadia Fuego, OHM and FOCCO, which are amazing fragrances.

  • Billy Ramita

Delicious opening, critical and sweet with woods and a leather that appears soon. Then it becomes herbal and earthy. It’s a classic men’s fragrance, neither overwhelming nor outdated, sensual and formal for the office or events. The citrus gives freshness, the woods warmth; it’s versatile in cold or heat. Big projection and lasts more than 12 hours. For the price, an absolute bargain.

  • metroidsoldier

The most long-lasting, elegant and sophisticated for any formal event. You can feel the notes of tangerine, ginger and leather making a more sophisticated perfume, the Solo. And I had it as an after-shave, deodorant and also in bar soap.

  • My dad gave it to me, and I passed it on to an uncle. Honestly, it’s a scent for older people. If you need something formal or elegant, sure, but I just didn’t like it. My dad, uncle, and mum, however, are absolutely obsessed with it. As the saying goes, to each their own…

  • My father gave it to me and I gave it to an uncle. The truth is, it’s a scent for older people. What for? The truth is, if it’s formal, elegant, etc., but I didn’t like it at all. On the other hand, my father, uncle and mother are fascinated by it. Tastes and colours vary…

  • Andrés Maetxa

The opening is a show, an ode to retro masculinity. Citrus and woody, pure ginger, tangerine peel and leather. Ugh, it smells like soda! The bad thing is that it’s very boring… like it starts, it ends… no evolution. That delicious spark of the beginning lasts all the time and gets tiring; it becomes a nightmare. It’s too sparkly. With black clothes on a cold evening, it’s brilliant! I remember my uncle used to wear it. He was a difficult and spicy man, haughty but funny and nice. It suited him incredibly well. In part, thanks to that memory, I wear it. I’ll buy it whenever I can. Scent: 6.4 Projection: 7.5 Longevity: 7 Final rating: 6/10 ***69.7% perfection***

  • DemetrioNill

Definitely not my preference. When I applied it to my arm, it transported me back in time to someone very adult who wore it… Unfortunately, I asked a gentleman who smelled wonderful what his perfume was, and he said Solo. However, it does not have the characteristic notes I felt at that moment. I’ve unfortunately lost my money.

  • Erik Obiol

Definitely not for everyone. In a world of floral and sweet men’s fragrances, such a classic scent rarely appeals to the young. It’s an essential in my drawer; it smells like a real man, not a child or a teenager, but like the men we are in the process of extinguishing.
