Vanille Imperiale by Houbigant is an oriental vanilla fragrance for men and women. This creation, launched in 2024, was designed by Luca Maffei and Antoine Lie. In its opening, the composition unfolds notes of blood orange, neroli and bergamot; the heart reveals a harmony of vanilla, rose, nard and jasmine; while the base settles on ambergris, musk and ambrette musk.

A curious vanilla. It combines a Marie biscuit effect with somewhat muddled, turgid florals and greens. The imagery: you wake up on a Tuesday for a basic plant physiology lab session. You slice a potato, place it in saline solution, and watch it crunch under the microscope, releasing starchy juice. You still have the aftertaste of breakfast biscuits in your mouth because you were late and ate them on the tube. You’re groggy, following instructions like a zombie, and the bright white of the fluorescent lights feels like the edge of a dream. The sky is grey and you feel as though the entire lab is telling you to go have breakfast in proper conditions.
A delicious, sophisticated vanilla that is not at all cloying. It resembles Royal Vanilla by Mancera Paris, but if I had to choose between the two, I’d go with this one.
A scent with a peculiar sweetness. Smells like vanilla cookie paste, almost like a puree, especially noticeable at first. Then it unfolds its full complexity like a blooming bud, with very restrained citrus notes and above all, white flowers. Overall, it leaves a feminine, refined, elegant, youthful and coquettish impression. Very interesting.
It’s a totally unisex fragrance because the scent has no gender; anyone can wear it.
