  • Maestro de los Cantares Dmitry and Rajesh Balkrishnan created this perfume inspired by an Armenian poet. The opening is dense, sweet, and liquorish vanilla, accompanied by ripe damson that dominates the composition, alongside a mix of very woody ouds. It is a bit heavy, with a powdery and dry texture. The development is linear, with high initial projection that then drops to the skin. Longevity of over 6 hours. It is masculine and for cold weather; versatility is somewhat compromised. Be careful with white clothes; it stains and leaves a trace on the skin too; if you decide to apply it gently with the pad of your fingers without rubbing, it’s fine. Due to the mix of ouds, it can give a sensation of liquorish cappuccino, but it doesn’t smell of coffee. People say it resembles Baque de Slumberhouse. Is it true? In my opinion, yes, although each has a different personality. Baque is dry tobacco with damson and light vanilla, whereas in Sayat Nova, liquorish vanilla with damson and lots of oud dominate, without tobacco. Blindly, I’d say it’s from Slumberhouse due to the style and DNA. Does it resemble Tabac Doré? It has elements and that DNA, but they are different. Baque, Tabac, and Sayat fit in the same collection; the similarities exist, but the differences are greater. Is it a safe bet? No. It is an acquired taste. I tested it with 2-3 people and none wanted to use it. They said “it’s not bad”, but they agreed it smells heavy, dense, and very woody/smoky; none had ever heard anything like that. None were fans of oud or artistic perfumery. In my experience, it is one of the best in the Bortnikoff line. 9/10 ✨

It is my favourite of Bortnikoff because it is unique, without parallel. It doesn’t have a clear identifiable note, and to me, that is mastery. Some say apricot or peach, but it’s not; those who know Slumberhouse will understand. The peculiar opening blends with white flowers and a huge mix of oud. I wouldn’t highlight the liquor (it’s not a Sans Fleurs) nor does it smell of moss. Impossible to describe, you have to try it. It is warm, comforting, magnetic, and elegant, without being pretentious. Despite being original, it doesn’t scare off niche novices. Top performance in Dimitri’s collection: it lasts less than bombs like Interlude or classic DHP, but its projection is extraordinary for a natural perfume.

  • Great perfume. To me, it smells unequivocally of apricot from the opening, along with the rum, then vanilla and oakmoss dominate, with flowers and oud in the background to give a woody nuance. It is very balanced and linear. It reminds me of Baque de Slumberhouse, but swapping tobacco for rum; anyone who says it smells of vanilla and not apricot, well, I don’t know, I respect all opinions. It stains clothes and leaves a yellowish ring on the skin as if it were motor oil. On my skin, it lasts 12 hours or more, though close to the skin; I tested it in the afternoon and the next day it still smelled, which isn’t bad for a natural. I recommend testing before buying.

  • In the Bortnikoff collection, there are various oud proposals. Sayat Nova combines oud with sweet notes. Like most of the house, it has excellent depth. It is a dense and linear fragrance, very tasty, based on a fused apricot with liquorish and vanilla tones over a woody oud base. The oud and vanilla can give a slight powdery sensation, but without detracting from the density. I’m surprised how they blend the classic French style with oriental notes, uniting the best of both traditions. Of classic cut, with the perfumer’s touch, it is rather mature, elegant, and distinguished. It’s not my weakness, but it is a great perfume, of superior quality and worthy of trying.

By God, what a magnificent creation. The opening surprises with an oud barely faecal (enjoyable and not too challenging), lots of rum, and a slight fruity aroma. It lasts about 15 minutes before the roles reverse: the damson and vanilla come to the front. Along with the oud and rum, they make a particular note that reminds me of some loose leaf teas. The white flowers contribute a fresh and revitalising background. It is a perfect perfume according to my nose; I hadn’t smelled anything so incredible in ages. If I have to name a negative aspect, I’d say the performance wasn’t what I expected. But it is such a rich scent I’d forgive it lasting only 20 minutes.

What a creation! The opening surprises with an oud that doesn’t smell of excrement, but is enjoyable and not too challenging, mixed with rum and a fruity touch. It lasts about 15 minutes before the roles reverse: then the damson and vanilla take the front, creating a special note that reminds me of loose leaf tea. The white flowers add freshness and vitality. To my nose, it is PERFECT; I haven’t smelled anything so incredible in ages. If I have to nitpick, the performance wasn’t what I expected, but the scent is so rich I’d forgive it lasting only 20 minutes.
