  One of the best in my collection, Oud Kinam is masculine, elegant and classic, slightly mature. At first it smells of rich citrus over a potent oud with coffee notes. I don’t detect the vanilla mentioned in the pyramid; it evolves little, simply fading the citrus to let the oud take centre stage. The performance is good, nothing beastly as one might expect from an oud with three types of wood. On my skin it lasts 8 to 10 hours, but the projection is moderate at first and then stays close to the skin, only noticeable if someone leans in. For many this is a drawback given the $400 price tag.

  I’ve heard that Oud Kinam doesn’t smell of rubbish but of green forest. Dmitry seems to have added dried citrus, like peel, to highlight that. Upon opening, it’s earth, resin and wood reminiscent of dried green and black tea leaves, with a touch of incense. It doesn’t resemble other citrus-oud combos; it’s more serious, like a fragrance for meditation, nothing for a party. It’s difficult to wear, but if you like citrus with wood, you might enjoy it. I tried a decant; at first I didn’t get it, but I kept smelling it until I finished it and wanted more. That’s when I knew I needed it.
