Excellent aroma from this Double Animal. It does have some chords from Mugler’s A*Man, but fortunately, they are the best ones from that scent; that is, the delicious gourmand notes, not the burnt or tarred ones, which are absent here. Regarding performance, I find it inferior to A*Man; with about 8 sprays, it offers good longevity of around 10 hours and a moderate trail of less than an arm’s length, but up close it feels quite nice. On my rebellious skin, it withstands many applications and feels neither overwhelming nor suffocating; on the contrary, the fresh and sweet pineapple note is enhanced, somewhat in the style of Paco Rabanne Black XS L’Extrême. The price is excellent, equivalent to $20. The price-to-quality ratio is outstanding; I’d give anything to have a perfume with such a coefficient from brands like Chanel or Dior.
I believe its twin is Amen Puré Havane by Thierry Mugler, but Anímale is a bit of a pest.
A wonder at any cost. I had heard much about this perfume and its obvious resemblance to A*Men. I must say they share notes, but Animale smells a bit less sophisticated. It’s a blend of old-school perfumes with new trends, just like most from the 90s. I’d say it’s a mix between Lapidus pour Homme and A*Men, exactly as they are. A fragrance to own if you like scents with projection, warmth, and trail. Moreover, the price is hyper-convenient.
Wooww! Simply a sensual, provocative, and masculine fragrance. With exquisite honey, mature manly tobacco, juicy pineapple, and sexy rose, it’s a lethal weapon for celebrating love. On cold nights, its projection is brutal. Oh, and it’s very economical. From now on, it will be a staple in my collection. Rating: 9.0/10.
Where to begin?… This writing is more like the description of a great love, one that arrives by surprise and leaves a mark. It’s the fragrance that defined my life, helping me shape my tastes and opening dialogues with so many ladies, receiving compliments, and even a certain animal attraction from them. I must clarify that I started using it in my early twenties; I searched for reviews and took a risk. At first, I received rejection, as this beauty in its curious/unique bottle is different for people in my city and generation (born in the 90s), where most associate fresh and citrusy aromas with cleanliness, the good, the ‘pleasant and accepted’… Everything was Hugo Boss, CK, or Paco Rabanne. I would love to describe the scent, but those who preceded me have done it better and with great mastery (which makes me admire them)… I’ll just say it’s intoxicating, seductive, and wild, like an animal on the prowl.
A very sweet perfume; I love the honey and the dry-down, but unfortunately, it lacks significant longevity on my skin. It fades to skin scent after 3 to 5 hours, unlike others that last over 7. However, the price and those sweet notes appeal to me, so I recommend it. Rating: 8.8/10.
I received a 7ml sample of Angel by Mugler, and I can say it’s 90-95% identical. It was an impact; it’s as if they took the dust out of Angel, which made it feminine, and masculinised it; voilá, Animal! Furthermore, I sense that strong blueberry note from Angel. I believe it smells more like Angel than any of the A*Men fragrances. The scent remains notable and exquisite.
It didn’t quite win me over, though it has its own signature and a very striking dry-down. I didn’t like it, so I gifted it away; in the end, it’s all about personal taste. I don’t see it as comparable to Amen; it’s more suited for night outings with semi-formal attire. You can definitely detect the tobacco, honey, and a slightly dusty pineapple. On my skin, it lasts 5 to 6 hours with a projection of about an hour. It feels synthetic and very much a classic from the 90s. My rating: 6/10.
Dry, light, sweet, and dusty tobacco. That’s what I’m getting. I was expecting more… I’ll give it some more time… My new review is still pending.
Hello! Today I’m absolutely loving this fragrance; it’s an absolute beast for the price, something everyone can afford. It opens with incredible citrus notes before releasing pineapple, vanilla, and a super soft tobacco scent. I’m giving it a 9/10. It’s ideal for the chill of autumn and winter, or in spring when it’s a bit crisp. A sweet, recommended buy—go on and give it a try!
Tragically reformulated: I tested it today and it’s merely a skeleton of what it used to be. It has a faint scent of the previous version but with a sugary aftertaste like Carolina Herrera with lamentable performance and projection. I knew it in 2001 and it was much denser and more intense than this current water plus it lasted longer. On my skin: the old version had moderate to heavy sillage and lasted 10-12 hours; the current one is moderate to low and lasts a maximum of 4 hours. The old notes were strong potent and I detected a delicious mango scent (I speculate it was a mix of pineapple vanilla and honey). The current ones smell very diluted softened and ethereal. It could be a great fragrance for those who haven’t known it before but for me who heard it in the early 2000s the current version is a disaster. I thought about buying it to remember those times but thank God I tested it first and saved myself. Advice: test it before buying.
Animale Animale: rough but sweet resinous animalic mature yet playful. It’s a tongue-twister ranging from classic 90s fougères to modern gourmands. Strong opening slightly alcoholic and synthetic. It’s for people with strong character who go ‘all in’. Citrusy at the start (5-10 mins) then it reveals its immutable identity. It sits between two poles: on one hand classic dark notes (tobacco cedar sandalwood nutmeg patchouli) that give seriousness and maturity; on the other honey pineapple vanilla sharp citrus and an aromatic sweetness of rose and lavender. What I feel most: honey pineapple and vanilla; then rose lavender and nutmeg; finally tobacco cedar and patchouli. They say it doesn’t evolve but it has a subtle slight evolution. After two hours projection is moderate to strong and it evolves into herbal and floral notes (rose lavender sweet jasmine lily of the valley). The dry-down is woody and tobacco-like with a sweet trail. Brutal performance: heavy sillage for 4 hours then skin-scent for 12 hours (I’ve reached 24). Climate: semi-casual outdoors at night or cloudy days nothing with sun. Romantic for close encounters though its mature character can be cloying up close. More for groups discos clubs. It overlaps with others. Nothing formal due to the synthetic nature; it would look ridiculous compared to higher-quality perfumes. I liked it but not entirely due to the synthetic and mature aspects. What lowered my score was my mother’s opinion: I overapplied (more than 10 sprays the sprayer is precarious) and she said it smelled old. Don’t overapply or you’ll have a very mature aroma. Scent: 8.5/10. Performance: 9.5/10. Versatility: 6.5/10. Price: 10/10 (15-18$ for 100ml). Final note: 8.5/10. I liked it quite a bit; it’s not the gourmand I expected given the mature notes but it’s pleasant nonetheless. Performance is nothing to say about. An aroma everyone should try for its price and availability. PS: Compared to Mugler’s Angel the opening has over 90% similarity which seemed incredible. The friend testing Angel beside me seemed weird and gave up as if comparing it lowered its quality. I felt Angel was more subtle less rough and natural. In development it was just a first impression.
Finally a review for this beauty from Indonesia/USA/France. That’s why I pay tribute to it on my channel: ‘Moy Olaf’ on YouTube. It certainly keeps surprising.
Sweet intoxicating and very pleasant. Its dry-down is addictive. At first it seems the honey might be off-putting but it’s the opposite: it becomes sober stable and sweet yet controlled. It’s not a powerful bomb but its scent is always present and it garners many compliments. Highly recommended for romantic outings social events or semi-formal gatherings.
A gem 👌
I see it has been reformulated and it turned out well. It smells very similar to Mugler’s creations reminding me of Angel and Pure Havanne. It’s not a bomb; it’s skin-scented which suits it perfectly. It’s synthetic but improves as it dries. For the low price it’s totally worth it.
Note: this isn’t a perfume it’s an EDT with a wide blend: fruity with a strong opening of lime/pineapple and honey. No changes from start to finish. Sweet but not cloying it smells better than many others. It’s heavy and mature nothing for the young. The downside is its short typical EDT longevity at a laughable price (19-20€ on Notino). It’s a bit cheap but smelling like this is a luxury. Versatile for any time and suitable for 30+. Notes: lemon amber honey sandalwood cedar musk rose ylang-ylang pineapple tobacco vanilla lavender. Type: oriental spicy.
The only one I own is A’Men and it bears a striking resemblance to Animale Animale. It’s an exquisite fragrance a nectar strictly for winter and night when going out as a dandy at a club.
Rough cloying and annoying scent. I think I bought the reformulated version as it smells terrible to my nose; poor longevity and nothing like what I expected.
Brutal value for money. Smells 90% like Michael Jordan’s Legend but with more punch and a vintage twist reminiscent of Ted Lapidus. Ideal for mature men (30-70 years) in cold weather or for evening wear. You can feel the power; it’s pure animal. Recommended.
Price-to-quality ratio: It is worth triple the cost. Powerful opening for outdoor wear, 5 to 8 sprays and you are in beast mode; for indoor use or a date, 3 to 5 because it can be shocking at first. For a romantic outing, apply it 5 to 8 times a couple of hours before and you will smell like a great caramel that everyone will want to eat.
I have been using this since the early 90s; Mugler copied from this. I recommend Animale because it is more potent in the opening and trail.
The story of this perfume in my family is lovely: it was the one my father used all the time when he was courting and dating my mother. It is a pleasant aroma, slightly sweet but not cloying; I think it would suit someone aged 25 to 30 perfectly.
I have been a Mugler fan for years; I own A Men, Pure Havane, Pure Malt (my favourite), Pure Tonka… Inspired by the reviews, I bought this Animale, which is reasonably priced, but… it has nothing to do with Mugler’s subtlety. It has a brutal alcoholic opening, a strong punch that smells like a department store cologne. It may briefly recall A*Men, but as it dries, it drifts further away. I just couldn’t handle it, not even on the coldest days.
Upon opening, it smells 100% like Pure Havane and then shifts to the original Remi Latour; two icons revolving around sweet cigar notes.
This is one of the few I have failed to pull off. The honey note is too much for me and gives me a headache. It’s not a bad perfume, but it just didn’t work for me. Normally I buy blind based on the notes and get it right 98% of the time, but not with this one. I have it stored away; perhaps I will give it another try this winter. If I can’t bear the pain in my soul, I will have to gift it away. It lasts a long time and projects quite well.
A chaotic fragrance; a sweet but not cloying opening, slightly plastic, which calms down as it dries. Comparable to Mugler? I don’t see it, because Mugler has identity and depth that this lacks. It is enjoyable and brings back memories, but it tends to be linear and generic. I have it and enjoy it, although I haven’t been able to get hold of Mugler’s in years. It’s not a copy, try a Jovan and you’ll see they are similar. If you want something enjoyable without annoying your colleagues, it is a safe purchase and doesn’t cost a fortune.
At age 10, I tested a perfume in a bottle with a star (Mugler’s A*Men) and it left me absolutely floored. At 20, with Animale Sport, I thought it smelled the same, but after researching, I realised Animale Animale was the original. Upon trying it, what a sensation! It is sweet and vanillaised, without being cloying, ideal for everyday wear. At first, it smells strongly of honey and synthetic notes, but then it transforms into something deep, masculine, and reminiscent of dulce de leche with tobacco. The longevity is brutal, lasting 23 hours on my skin. The only drawback is the atomiser, which sprays when it wants to and without much force. A 9/10.
I bought this fragrance because of the comments that it shares the DNA of Thierry Mugler’s A*Men. I used to wear A*Men years ago and always found it elegant and commanding. The opening of Animale Animale is absolutely overwhelming; the honey and green lemon (almost sour) combined with lavender stun the senses the first time you spray it. However, after 15-20 minutes, the feast begins. Nutmeg and sandalwood appear, giving that powdery touch, while vanilla alongside the honey and lingering lavender notes make the perfume sweet enough to capture attention. It was a blind buy, but I admit it’s not for everyone. It is a scent with presence, nothing like the current trending fragrances. Nevertheless, I recommend it. The projection is good and the longevity on my skin is 8 hours.
What a pity this perfume! I don’t know if I’m the only one, but on the opening I found a nauseating smell, between sweat and urine that made me instantly sick. Once dried it feels better because that sweat smell goes away and leaves a honey note like Naxos and Amen. I wouldn’t buy it just for the opening because the idea of smelling that sweat for five minutes disgusts me.
If anyone has a 100ml or 200ml bottle, I would love to buy one.
The truth is I didn’t like it, although I only used it once in summer, it sounded very dated. I gave it to my father and he loved it; he received many compliments on its scent and projection. My dad suits it perfectly if he uses it at night with cooler temperatures.
Very strong scent, I find it completely suffocating. Not pleasant.
I was born in the 90s and my older brother used this perfume, I thought it was the best scent in the world. Now in 2024 they gave it to me and upon using it, wow! It was fantastic to remember it. Maybe it doesn’t smell 100% like the 90s version, but I loved it in this moment. It’s a very masculine scent despite having lots of pineapple and honey. It lasts quite a bit even outdoors, it has a strong opening but gradually releases its aromas: vanilla with amber, ripe lemon… it’s as if it had different scent capsules bursting throughout the day. Very impressive, I loved it.
What a perfume! It’s an exact dupe of A-Men by Thierry Mugler. First came Angel Woman with that caramel and milk aroma, and then this hidden gem that made Mugler release the male version. It’s the quintessential gourmand, attracts compliments (and some negative ones), but for me it was a gem on the skin. 100% recommended for winter evenings; in the office you’d overwhelm everyone’s nose within 5 metres. Rating 9/10 for being not very versatile.
The scent is rich, smells like honey. But the disappointment is that the performance is poor; Starwalker falls short in comparison. It doesn’t last more than two hours on skin and the trail is skin-level.
Hello, I’m intrigued by this fragrance because the opinions are split into two poles: some say it lasts and projects little, others that it’s a beast. I’d like to know what’s true before buying a bottle.
I used it again after 20 years and it sounds strange; even my boyfriend doesn’t smell it the same. It no longer sounds sweet to me, now it has a milky note I don’t remember. I don’t know if it’s the reformulation or my forty-something nose, but if I smelled it blind I’d say it’s a different perfume. I’ll let it rest for a few days and let you know if it stays the same.
A perfume madness!
This Animal Animal for men is a different story from the classic; fresh, summery and 100% masculine. As a collector, I say it is a timeless gem and very wearable today. I’m sure your circle will love it, even if they don’t say so. Forget the negative reviews; it’s an excellent blind buy that surprises and doesn’t break the bank on longevity. Best regards from Mexico to the fragrance addicts.
