  • This Histoires de Parfums fragrance is quite good. It opens very similar to Spicebomb but much softer and more natural, without that burnt sensation. It’s a pleasant cinnamon and pepper scent; as the juniper berries come through, it tends towards a darker style, similar to the sweet, liquorish, rubbery smell of Prada Luna Rossa Extreme. It’s here that the fresh, damp violet notes, nothing powdery, give a cheerful feeling until the end and prevent the spices from becoming cloying. It’s unisex, but if you’re a man, you should like it for the floral notes. Good longevity, light to medium sillage and excellent value for money.

In this fragrance, what I smell most is juniper, followed by lime and white pepper. Although they aren’t listed in the composition, citrus and orangey notes seem to come through (perhaps it’s the orange blossom with the bergamot). I must say that for some strange reason, I don’t detect any similarity with Spicebomb, although my partner says I do. Instead, I notice a resemblance to L’Orangerie by Estée Lauder mixed with pepper (perhaps that’s the note others associate with Spicebomb, as I don’t smell the benzoin or anything from that other perfume, but as I said, it’s my PERSONAL take).

  • A curious fragrance, not my favourite from the brand. It opens with a standout bergamot note with a citrusy touch. The pepper is present from the start until nearly the end. As it dries, the bergamot fades and the cinnamon emerges, quite potent. The floral notes are very in the background; it is not floral at all, but rather spicy and peppery due to the pepper and cinnamon. In the dry down, there is a hint of vanilla, with a very subtle amber base. I’ve read that it doesn’t last long, but it has performed well for me. The projection is very high for the first 2-3 hours, then it sits closer to the skin but still smells lovely all day. I stopped smelling it after 7-8 hours, so the longevity is acceptable. I see it as suitable for winter, autumn and spring; in summer it could be overpowering if it’s hot. It works for both day and night. Recommended if you can get it at a good price.

  • A curious fragrance, though not my favourite from the brand. At first, the bergamot sets the citrus tone and the pepper is there from start to finish. As it dries, the bergamot fades and the cinnamon takes over—lots of cinnamon. The flowers are very in the background; it’s not floral, more spicy and piquant. At the end, there’s a hint of vanilla and a very subtle amber base. It lasted well for me, unlike what I’ve read. High projection for the first two or three hours, then skin-level but noticeable all the time. After seven or eight hours, I can’t smell it anymore. Acceptable longevity. I’d say it’s for winter, autumn and spring; in summer it can be overpowering if it’s hot. Suitable for day and night. Recommended if you can get it at a good price.

It’s a kick. Smells like Spicebomb but softer and with more substance. Opens with juniper, pepper and cinnamon, then vanilla comes through. Longevity and sillage are average. The first two hours are intense, then it drops to skin-level. Very versatile.

I absolutely love it. It smells like Spicebomb but more tamed and with more nuances. It begins with juniper, pepper and cinnamon, followed by vanilla. Longevity and sillage are moderate. The first two hours are pure enjoyment, after which it settles closer to the skin. It is super versatile.

  • I confirm that 1899 Hemingway smells very close to Spicebomb; fortunately, this version by Histoires de Parfums is better executed and more refined. Ernest Hemingway embodied the image of the writer in the US and the symbol of the rough, daring man; it is well known that the renowned author put his shotgun in his mouth, so let us stop the story there… 1899 marks the birth year of this dramatic American writer and inspiration for this proposal, which fails to be as original as the character it pays homage to. 1899 is not precisely a cheap fragrance, so if you like the scent of Spicebomb, it is much more convenient. Excellent longevity with tenor projection. If I may, I take this opportunity to recommend 1828 by Jules Vernes; it is like a modernised and very beautiful version of the acclaimed Envy by Gucci.

  • I agree with the previous comments. Very similar to my V&R Spicebomb, but much softer and more wearable in seasons that aren’t extremely cold. It is more delicate; the cinnamon isn’t as predominant, and it’s not so heavy on the spices. A good fragrance and long-lasting.

  • rafasant

I completely agree with the previous comments. It is very similar to my old Spicebomb from V&R, but much softer and more wearable when it’s not extremely cold. It is more delicate; the cinnamon note doesn’t dominate as much and lacks that heavy spice weight. A good perfume with good longevity.

  • This house has a very good quality-to-price ratio within the niche. If it stayed this way, it would be a fantastic fragrance, but when it dries down, it becomes heavier and more monolithic, losing that fresh contrast of juniper and bergamot which makes it feel luxurious. One can detect the pepper, and I believe it smells something like cypress. The Spicebomb and BMB combo always remains superior. It smells very well, but in the end, it gets a bit tiring. Longevity is no problem.

I wasn’t expecting the sweetness mentioned in other reviews, but there isn’t any of that. It’s a blend of pepper and freshness, very citrusy and herbal. The juniper suits me, although I’m not entirely sure why. It doesn’t smell like that trendy ‘alpha’ or oriental masculine scent, but rather an elegant, serious man. Ideal for the office or business meetings. It’s also a good choice for a party or evening, as it usually pleases many people, men and women alike, regardless of their tastes.

I wasn’t expecting such sweetness based on the reviews, but there is none. It is a blend of pepper and freshness that smells citrusy and herbal. The juniper suits me, though I’m not entirely sure about it. It is not that kind of charismatic and ‘alpha’ men’s perfume that is currently in fashion. It is for an elegant and serious man, ideal for the office or work. It also works well for dinner or a night party, as it pleases many people, men and women alike, regardless of their tastes.

  • The main difference I see between 1899 and Spicebomb is that Virginia juniper, which gives it a fresh, herbal touch that the other lacks. Otherwise, they are very similar.
