1970 Tonka Expansion Glamour smells delicious. It’s a distinct tonka, coming out earthy and chocolatey, not too burnt in the middle nor too repetitive. It has been a pleasant surprise and a grand olfactory experience. It’s an exquisite scent, very well balanced, and I think it fits the unisex line. It feels great in fresh temperatures as well as in winter or spring. On my skin, the cocoa stands out, powdery and earthy, with a citrus note accompanying the tonka until the dry down, where I notice amber and vanilla nuances. The musk isn’t too apparent. This offering has been my favourite from Olfactive Expressions. It has a semi-wide sillage and a longevity of 8-10 hours. A must-have if you like tonka bean. Its dry down has a remote aura of Guerlain’s Tonka Impériale, but the 1970 surpasses it in essence and creativity. An example that a modern scent can outshine a classic. It’s tremendously original.
It’s a fragrance that evolves, leaving an impeccable trail with each phase in sequence. At first, it’s a burst of chocolate that then turns more citrusy, but the resting phase in its dry down is unique. I love fragrances, but few have this majesty of development. It’s a flawless creation and worth enjoying this exclusive scent.
I’ve never liked chocolate perfumes, but I decided to give it a shot… It’s not for me. It smells like caramelised chocolate for the first 40 minutes and then moves into the realm of Bois Dorée (it’s not a dupe, but they are neighbours). Better to test before buying.
Sublime, apothegmatic, and spectacular. If you’re looking for a high-quality chocolate perfume on par with Sorriso by Profumum Roma or Dulcis in Fundo by Panteon Roma, but without smelling like a chocolate cake with raisins, this is your fragrance. You can perceive the chocolate and vanilla with great quality, but with a woody base that makes it wearable for any occasion, elegant and sophisticated. The ingredients are very raw and of high quality. It’s a true work of art for those who like gourmands but not as much as desserts like the previous ones (which also fascinate me); you must try it.
Review: Rosendo Mateu 1970. It’s a fragrance that leaves a lasting impression. From the start, a citrus note gives way to an enveloping blend of cocoa, spices, and creaminess thanks to the tonka bean, vanilla, and amber. It creates something soft yet characterful, perfectly balanced and sophisticated. What I love most is its versatility: the creaminess of the tonka and vanilla combines with the warmth of the amber, creating a spiced and sweet aura, totally unisex. For me, it’s one of the most neutral perfumes in my collection, with a sensuality and elegance that make it perfect for both men and women. Longevity and projection are strong points: it stays present on the skin with subtle but constant bursts that attract compliments. With over 300 perfumes, including 60 niche, the 1970 has earned a special place in my favourites. It’s a gem that makes you feel unique and attracts praise. If you’re looking for balanced spices, sweetness, and creaminess, it’s an ideal option that doesn’t go unnoticed.
Rosendo Mateu 1970 is an absolute cracker that lingers beautifully on the skin. It opens with a fresh citrus note before enveloping you in a warm embrace of cocoa, spices, and that creamy blend of tonka bean, vanilla, and amber. It’s soft yet characterful, perfectly balanced and sophisticated. The best part is that it’s truly unisex; that sweet and spicy mix creates a perfect aura for anyone. With over 300 perfumes in my collection, this one has earned a special place. The longevity is brilliant, with subtle yet constant notes that continue to draw attention. If you’re looking for something that combines sweetness and spice without being cloying, this is your choice. A real gem that makes you feel unique and never stops attracting compliments. I cannot recommend it enough!
Smells like cocoa truffle to me, curious as that may be.
It smells like a chocolate truffle to me, which is curious, if nothing else.
Just picked up this gem and I’m convinced it matches Jerry Drake’s verdict. It’s a dream you don’t want to wake up from. It opens with that soft citrus that balances the chocolate and spices, which come out very faintly. It carries that unmistakable R.M. signature of musk. It’s mysterious, long-lasting, and addictive, totally unisex. The ingredients are blended so perfectly it’s a divinity. Although it might look gourmand, it isn’t, nor is it overwhelming. It deserves a try, and its longevity is excellent.
A perfume that warms you up and puts you in a good mood. Since I love Rosendo Mateu No. 5, I was curious how they process tonka bean and if the musk does something similar. No. 5 is more oriental and vanilla-based, with a more dominant sillage than the 1970, making it more wearable despite its equally satisfying longevity. The scent is wonderful: the opening delights with elegant, authentic black chocolate interwoven with spices and caramel, neither dry nor excessively sweet. On the nose, a very perceptible citrus note adds a sharp touch without breaking the harmony. As it fades, the spices and earthy notes yield to the tonka bean, which shines in its full splendour, incredibly creamy and addictive. The intensity and refinement of the chocolate give an elegant, mature impression, while the musk, the house’s signature, is soft and enveloping. The dry down is a beautiful dream you don’t want to wake up from: chocolate and tonka with a citrus twist. A delicious unisex gourmand for cold days that deserves a try.
I’ve finally got my hands on this beast and I confirm what Jerry Drake said: it’s a dream you don’t want to wake up from. It opens with a soft citrus to balance the chocolate and spices, which are very subtle but definitely there. That R.M. signature is unmistakable, with a touch of musk that makes it mysterious and addictive. Totally unisex, the blended ingredients last all day… it’s divine. Although it might seem gourmand, it’s nowhere near that, nor is it suffocating. It’s worth a try. The longevity is excellent; you can tell it’s quality.
