A*Men Pure Havane by Mugler is an oriental vanilla fragrance for men. Launched in 2011, this composition was created by perfumer Jacques Huclier. Personally, I can’t stand the classic A-men. This version seems more balanced and less intrusive to me, with good sillage and longevity. I don’t like the opening entirely, but the heart and dry-down are of very good standard for my taste. Approved. I take the opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
What an exquisite perfume, what a pleasure! It has therapeutic properties against stress and anxiety. It takes away the chill, but it whets your appetite: you want to eat cherries, a vanilla cappuccino, oatmeal cookies with honey and bits of rich chocolate. It doesn’t have as much sillage or longevity as other Thierry Mugler perfumes, but it withstands over-application well and creates an aromatic aura that captivates everyone. In the dry-down, I do manage to perceive the patchouli-DNA of A*men, but in a much richer, sweeter facet, less earthy, salty and burnt. Cold winter mornings and warm clothing are its perfect companions. I love it.
I love it. The opening smells of tobacco with honey and cherry liqueur. In the development, vanilla, patchouli and a touch of cocoa-cake are distinguished. In the final phase, labdanum is felt. I can’t stop smelling it. It really smells good. In the opening, it reminded me of Burberry London. Good performance. I liked it more than Pure Malt. For autumn and winter, for night rather than day. Long-lasting longevity and moderate sillage.
What a perfume! Surely you’ve had something remind you of someone before; with this EDT, you will be remembered. What a fragrance, so unconventional even though its components say the opposite. The creator played a great game and added a tremendous fixative. It’s of very good quality, both in scent, sillage and longevity. I own both Pure Malt and this one; they are both tops in my collection. If you have it within reach, don’t hesitate.
Exquisite scent. It opens strongly with an intense cherry and tobacco smell (the latter barely noticeable). The cherry doesn’t become cloying; it’s even fresh. As the cherry fades… Oh my goodness! The scent is absolutely delicious. I’m reminded of cherry, tobacco, praline, vanilla… If there were a cake that tasted as good as this perfume smells… I recommend buying it blind. At first, its lack of sillage and moderate longevity disappointed me, but I think it’s better this way; I see it as a virtue. Greater longevity could make it tiresome. It has just the right longevity to surprise you with a different scent every half hour for about 8 hours, always leaving you wanting more. For me, one of the best 4 perfumes I’ve owned (Top: Black XS, A*men and Escada Magnetism). 5/5, impossible to ask for more. PS: I also have Pure Malt, but I stick with Pure Havane by a wide margin.
Finally I have it, and what can I say? It’s superb. It resembles Animalé Animalé but is more exquisite and modern.
It’s like a cherry liqueur with sweet tobacco and a rough finish from the patchouli. Neither the vanilla nor the tobacco are the stars; here reigns the cherry liqueur, even if it’s not listed in the notes. I think it’s a magnificent combination that stimulates the palate like a dessert. It’s a very sexy scent.
I prefer Mugler’s A*MEN PURE HAVANE over the original A*MEN. Thierry Mugler’s perfumes prove that synthetic scents can reach heights of beauty. I prefer his feminine fragrances (ANGEL, ALIEN) for their intoxication and sensuality, which are often missing in the masculine ones. PURE HAVANE is more wearable than the original, which seems devoured by ethyl maltol. Although PURE HAVANE contains ethyl maltol and a brash vanilla, it never becomes as repellent as the original. It doesn’t seek naturalness; the world of fragrances is increasingly artificial, but Mugler masks the artifice so that coffee smells like Colombian coffee and cocoa like Ecuadorian chocolate. The opening shows a sweet Virginia blonde tobacco and a restrained honeyed ethyl maltol. There’s a green chypre note from labdanum, styrax and a green patchouli, perhaps with mint, lavender and thyme honey. The issue is the evolution: in the heart phase, the synthetic vanilla turns it into a high-quality insecticide that I don’t dislike, unlike the original. In the dry-down, it loses that brash tone and reaches Mugler’s feminine mastery: a beautiful oriental accord. The sweet tobacco returns, the incensed styrax, a vanilla-sweetened amber dessert gourmand, a earthy patchouli and blends of cocoa and coffee like a tiramisu. Mugler is a brilliant survivor of the triumvirate of the eighties, with its own wild style.
This fragrance commands so much respect that I’m almost intimidated to write about it. It’s one of my favourites despite a poor first experience: the vanilla and patchouli overwhelmed my nose like a clown’s, and I couldn’t smell anything else that day. The opening is sweet, a dialogue between honey, patchouli and fresh tobacco, but the real merit lies in its dry-down: BITTER, with tobacco, lots of cocoa, frankincense and styrax. The longevity is spectacular; it impregnates the skin for hours and clothes for days. The only flaw is that it has no sillage. It’s a wonderful, dark and deep scent. I fell in love with the dry-down. It’s not for winter; I see it as perfect for an outdoor summer night (beach, terrace) with a woman nearby, because you won’t go unnoticed; it could be the scent of the Despacito music video.
I became an absolute fan thanks to the forums. It’s a delight, even though the opening didn’t quite convince me at first; it needs time because it improves with wear. It’s a soft tobacco with a special sweetness of honey and cocoa. A true marvel that’s already hard to find here in Chile.
I bought it blind, perhaps due to the good reviews or a sample of A*Men. The top notes are identical to the previous one, but the heart and base notes only deserve a mention. Wow!!!!
I bought a boxed bottle that says MUGLER, not Thierry Mugler, and it’s… absolute rubbish in terms of longevity and trail. They’ve killed this wonder. On my skin, it lasts an hour.
Good heavens… It’s like when someone enters a room without wanting to make a noise or draw attention. I have a tester that does exactly that. In short, you can tell it’s there; it has decent longevity but without causing a scene. The bottle is the classic ‘Mugler’ style. The scent is simply superb.
Inspired by the good reviews, I picked up some samples. I understand it’s a classic despite being limited; some say that, like Pure Malt, it turned out merely average. At El Corte Inglés in Alicante, both are sold at exorbitant prices. As a devotee of the original, this one is to my liking. The DNA is present, revolving around sweet tobacco, nothing harsh. Do not expect smoke, but it does smell masculine. The tobacco wrapped in vanilla sweetness and patchouli counteracts the cloying effect. The result is refined and high quality. If you enjoy tobacco fragrances, you must try it. It smells of a tobacconist’s shop. What I’m looking for is more projection and sillage. The longevity is good, perfect for fresh and cold days.
I believe this is one of my best investments. I honestly didn’t want to buy it because I thought it would smell like ‘Old Man’, which reeks of tobacco, but I was pleasantly surprised by this Edition of Amen: sweet yet not cloying, soft and understated. If you can get your hands on it, don’t hesitate to purchase it.
I bought it blind based on the reviews and I quite like it. I think it’s perfect for someone who likes the original A*Men but dares not or finds it overpowering. I don’t detect the tobacco; when dry, it smells of cherries, even giving me a whiff of Guerlain Ideal. It’s a very good fragrance, more youthful than Pure Malt, less sweet than Pure Tonka, much more wearable and less brash than the original.
In Mugler’s usual line, this one features plenty of tobacco and cocoa when dry. It’s sweet throughout, with a vanilla base and other aromas on top. It lacks the typical Mugler intensity and longevity; you need to apply more. Of the ones I’ve tried, Pure Tonka is a bomb. This one is nice, sweet, with honeyed tobacco and cocoa, but it doesn’t speak to me; it lacks charisma and personality. It’s fine for winter, but I don’t see it as a necessity.
I’m a huge fan of the A*Men line but never took an interest in this fragrance because of the tobacco note… until I bought it blind. To my surprise, it smells of tobacco, yet not smoky like a pipe or ashtray; it’s a honeyed tobacco leaf over fruity vanilla and patchouli. Anyone who has opened a box of Habanos will know what I mean: faithful honeyed tobacco, just like in a Vegas plantation (I’m from Cuba). It feels synthetic in a good Mugler way, not as plastic as others, simple in its evolution but delicious. The only downside is the average/low performance compared to other summer flankers. Each flanker has its own personality; they aren’t identical.
I bought it for the tobacco note, but I can’t detect a pure tobacco scent, much like in Armani Code. What is exquisite is the sweetness, I believe from the honey. 212 Sexy has vanilla and is cloying; this one is subtly sweet and rich, perhaps due to the blend of honey, vanilla, and cocoa. Very delicious. Ideal for a night out with your girlfriend, aged around 30, to embrace her and cuddle in your arms.
To be honest, I bought it blind because I can’t find other flankers of the Amen line here, and what a surprise: on me it’s spectacular. The tobacco note is present but softened by the vanilla, so it doesn’t bother anyone or feel overpowering. Perfect for the office or for autumn and winter. If you’re looking for a less intense, more wearable tobacco scent, this is the delightful option that will pleasantly surprise you. I’d give it a 9.
Top 3 gourmand. Strong opening, like tobacco in sweet liquid cherry. In the dry down, it’s rich with vanilla. An EDT more potent than many EDPs, one of the strongest in my collection. It doesn’t drive women crazy, but you feel a pleasant sillage all day. 100% recommended.
A vibrant opening of caramelised cherries giving way to sweet tobacco. Jovial with a touch of maturity. The spray mechanism could be improved. Scent: 8.5, Originality: 9, Versatility: 8, Season: autumn/winter, Occasions: evening and night, Age: under 35, Quality: 9.5, Price: 8.5, Sillage: 9, Longevity: 9, Design: 7. Total: 8.5. Feeling: an afternoon at the bar with friends.
A good fragrance. On my skin, it smells like breaded tobacco with cherry and cherry. After 4 hours, it shifts to vanilla with honey. Lasts about 6 hours with moderate to heavy sillage.
I don’t notice the tobacco at the start, just a little vanilla afterwards. Light sweetness, nothing like the classic A-Men. On my skin, the projection and longevity are scant, about an hour, and only close to the skin. I prefer the classic A-Men and Pure-Malt to this one.
It’s a sweet bomb, a gourmand with honey, vanilla, chocolate, and cherry. A treat for cold weather and unisex. Like with Warm Black or Naxos, I don’t notice the tobacco in this type of sweet perfume. Lastly, the worst bottle/spray mechanism I own; it costs a fortune to spray properly.
With all due respect, this has nothing to do with CH VIP BLACK. I own both and they are different. This Mugler is my favourite in the line. If you’re looking for something more refined, try Naxos by Xerjoff, which is delicious.
Good if you like sweets. The tobacco at the start is sweet pipe tobacco, not Havana, so if you don’t know it, you won’t notice it. Then vanilla, patchouli, and amber take over. Lasts decently: 4 hours of projection and up to 7 hours on the skin. Suitable for autumn/winter, day or night, in informal situations like a café or library. It depends on each person’s olfactory psychology. What a pity it’s a limited edition. Rating 7.
Smells like ripe cherries with chocolate and honey. The tobacco note is soft, gourmand, and seductive. It’s less potent than the original, with more patchouli and cedar. Ideal for stylish young men in jeans and jackets during fresh weather. Autumn and winter are perfect. I love the sweetness, though the cherry can become tiring. I would have liked more wood. Gourmand and appetising.
I love it; pure delight.
I absolutely love it; it’s a real showstopper. It doesn’t smell cloying or as sweet as people claim, and I don’t detect any tobacco. It’s a very milky, subtle, and enchanting scent.
Want the original scent??? Buy Animale-Animale… this one is a total copy of the aforementioned, being the Animal that is more ‘tobacco-heavy’, less sweet… and stronger! 🙂
Total gourmand. On one wrist A*Men Pure Havane, on the other Xerjoff Naxos. Wow, they are very similar. Dense, with a sweetness that isn’t cloying. For me, the only difference is that I detect a tiny herbal/’medicinal’ note in Naxos that Pure Havane lacks, making it slightly flatter in this aspect, which doesn’t affect its quality. Lovers of SpiceBomb Extreme, Le Male and similar styles will surely adore Pure Havane.
Tested side-by-side with Naxos, I confirm what others have said; they are very similar, I’d say 95%. Perhaps Naxos smells a bit more refined, but essentially they are the same aroma (and the few differences are only noticeable when tested simultaneously; alone, it’s almost impossible to distinguish them unless you are very accustomed to them). Longevity and projection are also very similar. Both scents are delicious. The problem is that this one is discontinued; nevertheless, it can be found second-hand for roughly half the price of Naxos (note: it must be the one labelled simply Mugler, not Thierry Mugler).
👌 My favourite winter gourmand fragrance. This scent makes people remember me during Christmas or cold weather. That smell of ripe cherry (an undeclared note, perhaps cocoa) combined with unrefined honey, which later blends with a fine, not heavy tobacco, always envelops me. It has a milky, creamy aura that is very gourmand. I don’t smoke and my father smoked all his life, so the smell of tobacco usually repels me, but in this version, so well carried, controlled and light, I can only say: ‘Spectacular’. 9.8 out of 10, just because it can be a bit tricky in summer, haha.
A*Men Pure Malt by Mugler: I won’t discuss the notes that have already been mentioned. Discontinued, though still obtainable. The olfactory experience is highly refined, allowing it to be interpreted as an exclusive luxury for those who stand out. It’s not opulent but exclusive, of good taste, with finesse that isn’t ostentatious or eccentric. It’s the perfect balance of the extraordinary. From the most striking to the most lucid, this work makes itself known as the owner of the scene. A proper protagonist. A complete aroma, of class, personality, temperament and character, of strength and tenacity. An aroma that knows no insecurity; it is scent, colour, passion and movement. Simply splendid fragrance. Preferably for evening wear and elegant formal attire. For confident men. Scent: 10. Projection: Regular for 2 hours. Longevity: 8 hours. Recommended.
Well, this is the least favourite of the A*Men range; it smells like my grandfather’s bedroom: pure tobacco. I like tobacco in some fragrances, but not in this one. The longevity is amazing and the trail is excellent. However, the moment I smell it, I sneeze immediately and don’t know why; it hurts my nose. It’s strong in every sense and very well made, BUT it’s not for me. I hate it. A colleague is fascinated by it, but the further away it is from me, the better.
In my humble opinion, it bears a strong resemblance to Angels Share by Kilian. Although they don’t list the vanilla note, it smells very similar.
I bought Galactic Men Intense by Maison Alhambra and it’s 99.99% identical to this. It’s excellent and I recommend it without hesitation.
As the guy below said, Galactic Men Intense by Maison Alhambra is identical. What a fantastic fragrance; I picked it up for $20 and the longevity is spectacular.
I have no idea what Naxos smells like, but I keep this one because it’s a unique marvel. Sweet, woody, with a dark, vanilla intensity as it dries down thanks to the Styrax; indescribable. If you see it on eBay, grab it; it won’t leave you indifferent. It’s highly addictive.
