Descripción

Bat Edition 2020 by Zoologist Perfumes is an aromatic woody fragrance for men and women, launched in 2020. The nose behind this creation is Prin Lomros. The top notes reveal an earthy tincture, guava, passion fruit, and fig; the heart unfolds hay, mineral notes, night jasmine, and incense; while the base settles on animal notes, pebbles, vetiver, leather, oakmoss, and teakwood.

  • I had been waiting a while to try something from Prin Lomros due to their eclectic reputation, and this has not disappointed. It begins with very ripe fruits, especially guava, and humus earth, which later mutates into green hay, blending with the sweetness without becoming cloying. In the base, the leather is noticeable, adding depth. As it dries, it loses its unisex character and becomes more masculine with mineral, woody notes and a fruity vetiver that balances everything. It projects well, lasting around 8 hours with projection for the first 2 or 3. I have loved it, especially those crazy shifts between disparate notes. Given how earthy it is, I see it more as something to enjoy in solitude or as an olfactory experience rather than for daily wear, although if you are daring, it works for informal days in temperate climates or mild summers. Pleasant: 8/10 Interesting: 9/10 Versatile: 7/10 Original: 10/10

  • Bought the 2020 formula solely to compare it with my 2015 Ellen Covey. Verdict: applause to Lomros, but the cup goes to the original. It is difficult to describe the 2020 without sounding unfair to the original, so I will get straight to the point. The 2020 has a more mentholated, camphoraceous and sweet (fruity) profile, well executed, but it lacks that ripe fruitiness that the 2015 possessed. It is missing that sun-ripened banana; the humidity and heat-ripening simply cannot be replicated here, although both share that mineral and earthy tropical cave accord. In the 2020, Lomros leans a bit too heavily on the camphor in the opening; if you are not a fan, it can be quite off-putting at first. Personally, I am confused by what they were trying to achieve (speaking of accords, not individual notes). The dry-down of the 2020 is relaxing and trend-setting with the musk, but the animal accord feels a little synthetic and not dominant (though pleasant). Taking as a reference that the 2015 was an award-winning masterpiece, the 2020 is very good if you have not heard the first, but one must acknowledge that the original was a jewel. I highlight Lomros’s original good work: it delivers something deep and bold that, after two hours, smells very balanced. For women: highly recommended, I always test it when my wife applies it; my advice is to dare. For men: you must be a regular Zoologist wearer to match the occasion with this fragrance. Check out my other niche reviews; perhaps the one you are looking for is among them.

THE WORST PERFUME I HAVE EVER SMELLED IN MY LIFE. HOWEVER, AS AN EXPERIENCE, IT IS VERY CURIOUS.

THE WORST SMELL I’VE EVER ENCOUNTERED. HOWEVER, AS AN EXPERIENCE, IT IS QUITE CURIOUS.

  • The rumours are true: upon spraying, it smells like a bat cave, fermenting fruit, a damp atmosphere, wet earth, and of course, excrement and urine, though that aspect fades over time. Finally, on the skin, it leaves guava mixed with earth and a very subtle metallic note at the very back, giving it a slightly ‘cold’ sensation. It’s one of the best from the brand as an experience; if you smell it without having tried anything else from Zoologist first, you might hate it quite a bit.

  • There are always some silly or offensive comments; one must respect a creation even if you don’t like it. There are ‘horrible’ perfumes especially the mass-market ones but I don’t hate them. This fragrance has changed since the first batches: previously it was more earthy with a curious touch of banana at the base. Last year’s bottle with its new packaging smells sweeter and fruitier which might please those who criticised the earlier version. The opening blends guava and passion fruit with a marked sweetness notes of wood and geosmine that add a very subtle hint of wet earth. All this is complemented by raw unaged leather which is rough and adds complexity. As it dries it softens and rounds off with a metallic nuance that mixes with vetiver and oakmoss lasting up to nine hours on my skin. It projects strongly for the first two hours and then becomes a personal bubble of about 50 cm. I like it quite a bit: it’s playful youthful ideal from 25 years old for intermediate seasons and any style (except the gym as it is dense).
