Classic in the Andy Tauer style… or not. You expect something brilliant from this perfumer, but wearing it, the sensations feel generic. It opens with citrus and orange notes, then the labdanum and woods emerge. It’s well-composed with quality ingredients and care. But will it make history? No. There are other options in its genre. The price (2.2€/ml) doesn’t help either: with four sprays, the longevity is mediocre. We’ll update after testing it in the real world.
I have no data to compare the 2011 version with the 2021 edition, as I hope to try the latter soon, but I’d like to address your point about the first, which I’ve sampled several times thanks to a friend. Cologne du Maghreb 2011 was a super-simple scent where a luminous, full-bodied lemon dominated everything else, which wasn’t much to begin with. The smell was simpler than its composition. Longevity was around 30 minutes; the first time I wore it, I didn’t believe it, but the next two tests confirmed it. The price was lower, I believe around 85-90€ for 50 ml. With this in mind, my expectation for the 2021 edition is that it smells the same or similar, but with a longer-lasting formula. The three hours you mention still seem short to me, though a notable improvement over the beginning. Ultimately, whether it’s worth it is a personal decision, but I believe it’s one of the few cases where the first version shouldn’t be so idealised; at least, its performance was realistic.
A classic in the Andy Tauer style… or not? You might expect something brilliant from this perfumer, but wearing it feels generic. It opens with citrus and orange notes, then reveals labdanum and woods. It’s well-composed with quality ingredients and care. But will it make history? No. There are other options in its genre. The price (€2.20/ml) doesn’t help either: with just four sprays, the longevity is mediocre. We’ll update after testing it in the real world.
The first spray smells like a classic cologne, which explains the name. What’s lovely is that as it dries, the vetiver takes it down a different path, setting it apart from the Acqua di Parma DNA and giving it its own identity. The only drawback is that the longevity doesn’t justify the price. It mixes the Eau Sauvage DNA with the AdP Essenza DNA and works brilliantly. Recommended only if you don’t already own the others.
The first spray undeniably reminds you of classic colognes, which is why it bears that name. The beauty lies in how it evolves upon drying, taking a different path thanks to the vetiver, setting it apart from the Acqua di Parma DNA and giving it its own identity. The only flaw is the longevity, which doesn’t justify the price. For me, it blends the DNA of Eau Sauvage with that of AdP Essenza, and it works wonders. Recommended only if you don’t already own the earlier versions.
What a lovely cologne from Tauer! It suits my vibe like my favourite citrus scent, Nio by Xerjoff, but it simply cannot compare in longevity, as it is indeed a cologne. It arrived with four other fragrances from the brand when I purchased directly from the boutique. Although the scent is ten out of ten, I won’t be buying it again due to the poor longevity. I am now testing Sundowner on my skin, the one I’m actually interested in: a dark fragrance featuring one of my favourite notes, tobacco.
What a lovely cologne from Tauer! It’s in the same vein as my favourite citrus, Nio by Xerjoff, but it has no comparison in longevity, being a cologne. It arrived with four other Tauer scents when I bought directly from the boutique. Although I adore the scent, I won’t buy it due to the poor longevity. I’ll continue testing on skin the one that really interested me: Sundowner, a dark fragrance with my favourite note, tobacco.
Classic in the truest sense, reminiscent of Acqua di Parma or Álvarez Gómez but with Tauer’s distinctive touch: an amber base that adds sophistication. Very citrusy, initially lemon and tangerine, with plenty of green notes and a floral nuance where neroli takes the lead. The longevity is weak; you have to apply it generously and on clothes to reach four hours. It has class and quality, but I find the price for these 50 ml excessive; there are similar options that last longer and cost less. I adore Tauer perfumery, which is why I bought it blind on impulse, and while I’m not regretting it, I wouldn’t recommend it. If it captivates you, go ahead, but there are better value-for-money alternatives.
Classic, with echoes of Acqua di Parma, Farina, or Álvarez Gómez, but bearing Tauer’s signature: an amber base that adds distinction. Very citrusy, dominated by lemon and mandarin, with herbal and floral notes where neroli stands out. The performance is weak; you need to overapply or spray on clothes to reach four hours. It has class and elegance, but the price for 50ml is excessive. There are similar colognes at a better price and lasting longer. I love Tauer’s perfumery and bought it blindly at launch, but I wouldn’t recommend it. If you adore it, go ahead, but there are better value-for-money options.
