Enchanted Forest by The Vagabond Prince is an aromatic woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2012, the nose behind this composition is Bertrand Duchaufour. The top notes reveal blackcurrant leaves, blackcurrant flower, red wine, rosemary, rum, pink pepper, sweet orange, hyssop, hawthorn flower, and aldehydes; the heart unfolds blackcurrants, vetiver, coriander, honeysuckle, carnation, and rose; while the base notes settle on balsam fir, cedar, oakmoss, opoponax, Siam benzoin, patchouli, vanilla, amber, and musk.

I received the free sample, tried it, and I loved it. It opens with the scent of blackberries and a strong green note, as if one were in a forest, a charming and intense smell. After half an hour, it becomes softer and deliciously woody with musk and a note like wine with a carnation scent and vetiver, making it green and citrusy again but less intense. Its dry-down is a delicious musk with vanilla. I think I will buy it to continue enjoying it.
A fragrance aiming to represent the beautiful Russian forests, their tales, and the Slavic tradition of the Kupala festival on the summer solstice, St John’s Eve. It opens fresh with aldehydes and orange, with a well-blended spicy note of pink pepper mixed with aromatic herbs and a very potent blackcurrant effect, slightly tipsy from rum and wine, before moving to softer, greener blackcurrants with a floral base that is the highlight of the journey. The dry-down, intended to be very woody, feels discreet. One can detect a note of fir, cedar, moss, and that prominent blackcurrant note that doesn’t fade. The fragrance is lovely; the blackcurrant note is very edible and appetising, I love it. The evolution is promising, like at a party, but only up to the heart notes; the dry-down is improvable and I haven’t quite found those wonderful Russian forests that should have felt better and much more vast. Rating: 6. Thanks to the Fragántica team for sending me this lovely gift.
The fragrance opens with a strong, juicy fruity sensation, and personally it reminds me of some juice. The wine and rum give it a slight alcoholic touch, but not excessive. Gradually the green notes emerge, trying to convey the impression of a Russian forest, with fir standing out. The dry-down smells very well and is well achieved. Then it becomes less fruity, with the fir gaining prominence alongside flowers, amber and a background vanilla, all very pleasant and with a light sweetness, never excessive. In the final dry-down, I notice it becomes more ambered and I detect quite a bit of opoponax, a sweetness similar to Interlude but without the smoky element. It’s true that here it becomes somewhat monotonous and flat, but that’s my opinion. It still smells good. The performance is excellent, with acceptable longevity and projection, especially in the first few hours; later it clings very much to the skin. For me, it’s suited for autumn or winter, not so much for heat, as although the opening is fruity, the heart and dry-down are more sweetened and balsamic. I consider it unisex. I’ve liked it quite a lot. I love the evolution from the opening to the heart, starting fruity and moving into a green or woody phase, to finish with that balsamic and sweet part. I believe the ingredients are of good quality, as they feel, and it seems quite original; it didn’t remind me of anything else. While I think the price is outrageous, that’s the case in niche perfume these days. I wouldn’t mind having some millilitres.

Although I believe the price is exorbitant, that is the case with niche perfumery today. I wouldn’t mind having some millilitres.
I forgot to mention that it smells quite recycled from another Bertrand fragrance, the Eau Sans Pareil, which in turn reminds me of the Rose Amazone by Hermès. Of the three, I’d probably stick with the Hermès one.
The opening is very typical of Bertrand… the perfumer recycles his notes and accords a lot. It feels sweet, fruity and nuanced. Gradually it blends with the base, and for me, after 20 minutes it undergoes an unfortunate metamorphosis that strips away almost everything from the opening, leaving behind a monolithic base that won’t change for hours (though it performs well). It doesn’t smell bad; it’s a musky, mossy amber, but it feels a bit out of place given how rich and promising the opening was. Perhaps it retains some acidic nuances from the blackcurrant, but it doesn’t feel fresh, fruity or sweet.
It’s an incredible and very evocative fragrance that smells exactly like an enchanted forest as promised: fresh, green and damp, as if you were taking a walk through the woods. It’s not dark or resinous, but rather soft, smelling of fragrant greenery, blackcurrants, fir, red berries, basil and peppermint. It’s not really my style so I wouldn’t buy it, but if I did like it, I’d go for it headfirst; it’s made brilliantly. The only drawback is that the longevity is nowhere near elevated.
The ‘Enchanted Forest’ by The Vagabond Prince is a masculine beast that immerses you in a truly magical forest. It begins with a juicy, fresh blackcurrant that awakens the senses, then grounds itself with resins, vetiver, and oakmoss, and closes with an amber-musked and honeyed note that warms. It is a super masculine and sophisticated trail that lasts for hours. If you are looking for something with character, adventure, and mystery, this is the one for you. I am always asked what I am wearing, and the truth is, it is worth every penny for the quality and the impact it leaves on everyone.
