Fortnum & Mason The Perfume by Roja Dove is a spiced oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2018, this composition was created by nose Roja Dove. The top notes reveal lemon and sour lime alongside bergamot. The heart unfolds peach, labdanum, May rose, jasmine, geranium, and orange blossom. The base settles on saffron, amber, castoreum, white cuaba flower, vanilla, labdanum, olibanum incense, birch, benzoin, oakmoss, patchouli, vetiver, coriander, musk, and sandalwood.

An ode to hops. Resinous, potent, elegant, mysterious and tenacious are the words that come to mind upon trying it. The opening hints at what’s to come: hops with citrus that last barely a minute before yielding to a soft peach alongside noble flowers (jasmine and rose), which accompany the hops for about 2-3 hours. Then things get darker, with hops and animal, sweet, smoky and woody notes forming a singular, very well-crafted whole. It clings to the skin like few others; I can still detect it two days after showering, so moderation with the sprays is essential. The projection is notable and lasts around six hours, being picked up by people nearby. In terms of performance, it belongs in the same category as the famous ‘Blue Beast’. A single spray is sufficient, two sprays leave you fully loaded, and beyond that, you become a public hazard. But as I noted at the start, this is a perfume centred on hops, a resin I associate with gothic atmospheres (shadowy and mysterious). Those who dislike hops should avoid it, but if you enjoy or are a lover of this note, this is possibly one of the best perfumes dedicated to it.
