  • 🇬🇧 ♥ Roja’s favourite perfume ♥ 🇬🇧 This perfume needs a review, and mine will be the first. ➡ Haute Luxe: it’s basically a sweet perfume due to the vanilla-benzoin, which together with the labdanum gives a noticeable leather scent. Slightly powdery, very likely due to the iris root, with a very light floral tone (rose, jasmine) in the background and a bit of spice. Everything revolves around the sweetness of the vanilla-benzoin and the labdanum. The rest of the notes add nuances. It is linear, with modest projection and high longevity. Unisex and classic cut, though I don’t feel it as stuffy as Diaghilev. There is a certain thrill in wanting to try it (the same with The Night, Nebulous, and very expensive perfumes) since this bottle costs US$3,500 for 100ml. The problem is that most people expect that for the price, it must be something they’ve never heard of and be the elixir of the gods; and if the first spray doesn’t impress you as much as its prohibitive price, then the perfume is bad. Things don’t work that way, stop watching Netflix. I like it. A very polished perfume, softened without any stinging notes that bother, no alcohol on the opening (a general characteristic of niche perfumes), and it doesn’t feel rushed to hit the market. It also didn’t leave me speechless; simply, it’s a good high-quality perfume, nothing more. Now, why that absurd price? It’s because of exclusivity. As it is Roja’s favourite, only 500 bottles are made per year (changed due to demand, originally 50). The raw materials are high quality, but that’s not why it has this price. You can see genuine gold flakes inside, but that doesn’t raise the cost that much. I insist, it’s for exclusivity. Did you know that Hermès Birkin bags are worth over US$10,000 and have a waiting list of a year? They are fine, artisanal work, and expensive American crocodile skin, all under Hermès, luxury objects where exclusivity is not something anyone can chew on, so the 99% cannot have it and that 1% does have the purchasing power and the taste (hence the demand), and the same applies to Haute Luxe; it is for the 1% only. I wouldn’t put it in my top 3, but it is among the best. Would I buy it? At that price… no. Good perfume ✨

  • Olfactory Memories

This perfume needs an objective review. Does it smell good? Yes, but there are ‘better’ options, especially at logical prices. Is the performance good? Yes, but not excellent. Is it worth it? Honestly, I wouldn’t pay more than €150; anything higher is just too much. Conclusion: in my opinion, it’s a fragrance made for an audience that, above all else, seeks to appear wealthy, regardless of the composition (which is not excellent). Even if Mr Roja were to laugh in their faces charging them 3,000 euros for 100ml, literally, and the majority pay three times their salary, there is neither ‘exclusivity’ nor milk. But hey, at least there are floating gold flakes inside. Isn’t that right? I almost laughed out loud… In short, it’s absurd. Anyone who truly loves the world of perfumery and combines that feeling with common sense and maturity will perceive the nonsense of products like this and stop excusing them with ‘it’s exclusive’ or similar phrases.

  • It reminds me a lot of Chanel No 5, but it also brings to mind the scent of AVON’s ‘WILD COUNTRY’ cologne from long ago, which came in a duck-shaped bottle. My father used it 44 years ago. I like it, a classic.

  • Carcanuelo

Little more to add to Dr No’s great review. Very good perfume, balanced as only Roja knows how to do it; without edges. Of exquisite refinement. It won’t blow heads, for that there is dynamite and the ‘brilliant’ creations that only serve to fill test tubes. This perfume is beautiful, elegant and very refined, of true class. Moreover, it’s not common, difficult to find a similarity except for some accord. It certainly fits among current perfumes but with a retro and romantic bias, like Chypre Palatin by MCDI, another amber jewel. Perfume prices are out of control, but I won’t be the one to criticise them; the price of electricity and bread indignes me more. Performance is average, projection moderate in keeping with its elegance, for formal occasions in autumn, winter or fresh springs. Absolutely unisex.

  • Almost €3,000 for 100ml? This is a challenge of another level. For many, it’s an entire salary; for others, a year’s worth of living, and for a few, a quick indulgence or money tucked away in a drawer. Whatever the case, expectations are brutal, thanks to the generosity of Olfactory Memories (if you need me to walk the dog or act as a chauffeur, let me know 🙂 ). Setting aside the crazy price, Roja Haute Luxe is one of the best modern perfumes with a retro style on the market. ‘Old school’ isn’t just for older people, but a way of composing: classic ingredients and dominant notes. Roja loves the great classics from Chanel and Guerlain, and this is a tribute to immortal feminine pieces (now unisex). Although it smells like the 70s-80s, it is harmonious and pleasant: a solid floral in powder with an attractive exterior, though the heart sometimes doesn’t match the beginning and the end. Upon spraying, the bergamot hits quickly, followed by a sweet, clear floral. The jasmine provides the sweetness, and the ylang-ylang, weak at first, intensifies in the base. In the heart, the clove is noticeable among the spices, but soft compared to other references. It’s not that it’s weak, but it blends with vanilla, iris, labdanum and amber, creating something soft and warm. The iris adds powdery, talc-like and pleasant touches to the skin. Then a resinous touch appears with oakmoss, nothing invasive if you smell with attention. The base is spicy but remains soft, warm and powdery: vanilla, iris, incense and light woods. The final protagonist is the ylang-ylang, floral and sensual, but thanks to the soft notes it doesn’t feel heavy, making it more unisex. I love this final phase, elegant and welcoming. What stands out is the duality: clear and cool initial nuances, and warm and spicy accords without being dark. It won’t last days, but with 5 or 6 sprays it will last hours. Despite its quality, the question is: do you like it so much that you want it regardless of the price, or do you think it should be divine? If you think about buying blind, know that it is a modernised vintage feminine style. I wouldn’t buy it for economy reasons and because I already have pieces of that style in my collection.
