Descripción

Chypré Extraordinaire by Roja Dove is a jewel of the floral chypre olfactive family, created for men and women. Launched in 2018, this composition is the masterpiece of its creator, Roja Dove. The opening unfolds with a sparkling effervescence of aldehydes and bergamot that introduces the scent. The heart reveals a complex floral and fruity blend featuring peach, ylang-ylang, neroli, jasmine, plum, geranium, violet, cassia, May rose, labdanum, orange blossom, and heliotrope. The base rests on a woody and animalic foundation of oakmoss, galbanum, leather, iris root, cumin, cedar, amber, musk, patchouli, benzoin, sandalwood, clove, styrax, tonka bean, and vanilla, achieving a balance between classic elegance and modernity.

  • Is it a chypre from another world? Chypre Extraordinaire is a powder-free, floral take on ‘Diaghilev’, drying down to oakmoss with a very soft civet. It’s unisex with good performance, beautifully refined and high quality. It’s a chypre very much in the Roja style, but when you factor in the price, it’s hard to justify when Diaghilev costs $815 less and smells more like a perfume; so much so that CE seems based on Diaghilev. Why does Roja think people will spend $1,865 on a chypre that uses the Diaghilev formula, which costs $815 less, and smells more like perfume? Couldn’t they have placed it in the ‘Imperial’ collection alongside Nuwa, Britannia and Diaghilev to avoid making it so ridiculously expensive? CE is pricey, yes, and not worth it.

  • The more you test, the clearer it becomes that perfumes vary not only in quality and ingredients but also in price. Roja perfumes generally have excellent craftsmanship, and if they also smell like what you’re looking for, they become outstanding. This CE is a fruity chypre unisex with an air of another era yet feels very current. Upon application, you first notice the aldehydes with an almost imperceptible citrus touch; then, as they shine, the fruits arrive (I detect peach) – very realistic, slightly sweet, like a ripe fruit, not cloying, with white floral nuances. It’s a ‘book’ perfume because its stages follow theory to perfection. The heart notes linger over the base for a long time, adding a certain masculinity. It ranges from slightly feminine to masculine, which is why I call it unisex. For me, the ideal is wearing it on spring evenings, with temperatures above 20°C and long days. It doesn’t dislike the cold, but in intense heat it can become suffocating. I haven’t found anything quite like it (perhaps only the fruity part of the Haute luxe from the same house), making it unique. Although it seems weak and fleeting at first, its longevity is notable – 10-12 hours – with good trail and projection for the first four hours; afterwards it fades on the skin but remains perceptible. The price is brutal, though you can always ask for a 7.5ml trial vial, which also gives you time to consider it. Is it fair? Let everyone decide; the author sets the price, and if the brand values it so, let them. That doesn’t stop it from being an excellent and interesting perfume: one thing is the scent, another is the cost. I recommend it to all chypre lovers and fans of classic perfumes, because it’s an experience to enjoy.

  • The more perfumes and brands I discover, the more I see the differences: not just in quality, construction, blend and ingredients, but in price. Most of my Roja perfumes seem excellent in construction and finish, and if you add scents that match my tastes, I consider them outstanding. This CE is a totally unisex fruity chypre, with touches of perfume from another era, yet very contemporary. Upon application, you first notice the aldehydes with a citrus touch; then, with them shining, come the realistic fruity notes (I detect peach), slightly sweet, the natural sweetness of a ripe fruit, not cloying, with white floral reminiscences. It’s a ‘book’ perfume because its phases follow perfumery literature. The heart notes sustain themselves with the base for a long time, imparting a certain masculinity. It suits the cold well; in heat, it can be suffocating. I haven’t found anything similar (perhaps only the fruity part of the Haute luxe from the same house), which makes it unique. If the brand values their work this way, so be it. It remains an excellent and interesting perfume: one thing is the scent, another is the price. Recommended for chypre lovers and fans of perfumes from another time, it’s an experience to enjoy.
