Although it may seem unbelievable, it’s the first time in my life I’ve tried an AXE product. To start with, I didn’t even notice them and considered they only manufactured deodorants from the supermarket aquamarine musk range, the typical simplest scent you can find for the lowest price. I hadn’t even thought of trying an AXE product, and that despite having tried many diverse things for ‘one euro for three litres’. The case is that at a relative’s house, it was on a table. With its appearance of a deodorant bottle, completely unremarkable, I sprayed it on my left arm and ¡OH CIELOS! what an exquisite scent. The aromatic accord is pure ambrosia, in the line of an Annick Goutal or an Armani Privé Collection. An exquisite effluvium of the highest school of oriental gourmands, of very high quality. I don’t detect the oud, in any of its multiple facets, so the OUD WOOD denomination is pure advertising ploy. But it doesn’t matter at all. It possesses an exquisite chocolatey vanilla worthy of a Dior, Gucci or Prada, of velvet texture and unctuous, soft and warm. Another note I detect is a very balanced and pondered ethyl maltol, nothing like the disgusting ethyl maltol of A* Men by Mugler, emetic and headache-inducing. It is a sweet gourmand note like nectar gathered by the most diligent bees. The AXE SIGNATURE OUD WOOD & DARK VANILLA accord is linear but perfectly assembled. I can catch hints of Mesopotamian mint, Samarian incense, Indian pepper and Teotihuacan cacao. A deep background of patchouli and cardamom returns me to my ritual offerings to the God Baal or my initiation dances under the arches of the Temple of Nineveh where my virginity as a sacred maiden mixed with the vapours of oils, essences and ointments, of a crimson colour that, in fleeting gusts, confused themselves with the elusive shadows hidden between the columns of acanthus leaves. I don’t even want to talk about the price of this marvel. It would be sacrilege.
What a curious discovery this morning at an Eroski in a small town in Galicia. Looking through the store’s fragrances out of curiosity, I found a half-hidden corner with a box of an Axe version unknown to me. It turns out to be a ‘perfume signature’ version, nothing like the bulk deodorants we’re used to. The aroma, despite the initial blast of synthetic bulk perfume, is very pleasant. It’s a warm, smoky vanilla, versatile and very unisex in my opinion. For the €4.50 it costs, there is an artificial smell, but it’s quite pleasant for winter. It doesn’t exactly stand out for its trail, but at that price, you can’t ask for more. I should clarify that the photo is of the deodorant version; there is another bottle for the ‘perfume’ version.
Curious discovery this morning while shopping at an Eroski in a small town in Galicia. Looking out of curiosity at the store’s fragrances, I discovered in a half-hidden corner the last box of an Axe version unknown to me. It turns out it’s a ‘perfume signature’ version of Axe, nothing to do with the bulk deodorants we are used to. The scent, despite the first synthetic mouthful of bulk, is very pleasant. It’s a warm, smoky vanilla, versatile and very unisex in my opinion. For the €4.50 it costs, you can smell the artificiality, but it’s quite pleasant for winter. It doesn’t stand out for its trail, but at that price, you can’t ask for more. I clarify that the photo of the fragrance is of the deodorant version; there is another bottle for the ‘perfume’ version.
Note: I just realised and want to point out that this review is for the ‘Daily Fragrance Signature Oud Wood & Dark Vanilla’ line, not the flagship deodorant. It’s like a chocolate cake with vanilla cream: bitter and intense chocolate, but at first you perceive something artificial (like opening a box of dishwasher tablets) that I can’t define. I apologise if I spray generously (8 sprays, two on the scarf I’m wearing these cold days). The scent is very linear; it smells the same when applied as it does six hours later. For me, it’s clearly for very cold days; unless you are a declared lover of this type of scent, which although pleasant can be very heavy in mild weather. I was gifted it in September-October and with those temperatures I didn’t like it; now with the cold I admit I do. I stop perceiving it continuously after about three hours, although it doesn’t disappear, it just comes and goes. On the few days I use it, many people ask if it doesn’t smell like incense; I don’t say it really smells like it, but that’s the sensation it gives. One must remember that not everyone can stand that scent. If I stay 15-20 minutes in a small room (usually an office), the scent lingers. Yesterday in judo class, sweating profusely, some classmates asked about that scent (it had been about 12 hours since I applied it). Conclusion: for the gym and short distances like judo, something lighter is better (or reapply and disorient the opponent, I’ll think about it), and for my work it’s not suitable as its scent doesn’t please everyone due to that ‘false’ incense smell. My opinion is that this fragrance (if you like this type of scents) is good for the price, highly advisable on cold days and even better if your environment is the street, and it comes in a format easy to transport and without fear of bumps. Still, better to try before buying. Best wishes.
I see that Fragrantica hasn’t added to its database the three-fragrance collection called ‘Daily Fragrance’. I’ve had them for two years: 1. Signature: Oud wood & Dark vanilla (oriental, gourmand), 2. Urban: Tobacco & amber (spicy, semi-sweet), 3. Adrenaline: Iced Musk & Ginger (fresh ginger, sporty). They aren’t exactly spray deodorants like the rest of Axe; they are EDT lotions in bottles similar to the brand’s deodorants, but when you press the atomiser, liquid comes out, not propellant gas. The scent is much better than the common sprays; you can tell they have higher concentration, last longer, project a stronger trail, and cost three times as much as a normal spray, around $6 per piece. They have excellent performance and acceptable quality for the price. Sometimes I mix them and have received many compliments in bars and at work. As far as I can see, Axe released the same scent from the first one in a spray deodorant, and that’s when it appeared on Fragrantica. I’ll look for it to try and see if it smells the same as its predecessor, and I’ll keep an eye out if they release the other two in this presentation, although I doubt they’ll surpass the charming and pleasant ‘Daily Fragrance’ in quality.
I agree with JuanPasiones. I bought Axe Signature Oud Wood & Dark Vanilla two weeks ago. I loved it because I already had the body wash with that scent and now I complement it with the Signature lotion after my shower. Yes, this lotion smells better than the shampoo and the deodorant, so I recommend trying it as is. It smells like chocolatey vanilla, slightly robust, but with herbal and spicy notes. Frankly, it reminds me very much of the heart of Carolina Herrera Prive; it lasts and projects equally, but Axe is slightly sweeter and more seductive. I wear it to go out at night during these cold seasons and, I repeat, it is very seductive. For what it offers, it’s a bargain.
I noticed Fragrantica still hasn’t listed the ‘Daily Fragrance’ collection by Axe. I’ve had all three for two years: 1. Signature (dark oud and vanilla, oriental and gourmand), 2. Urban (tobacco and amber, spicy and semi-sweet), and 3. Adrenaline (icy musk and ginger, fresh and sporty). They aren’t gas-powered sprays like regular deodorants; they’re EDT lotions in similar packaging. When you press them, pure liquid comes out without propellant. The scent is far superior to standard sprays; you can tell they have a higher concentration, last longer, and project better. Although they cost triple (around €6 each), the performance is excellent and the quality is acceptable. Sometimes I mix them, and I’ve received many compliments at bars and work. Curiously, Axe has already launched a deodorant spray with the Signature scent, which is what’s just been added to the database. I’ll try it to see if it smells the same as its predecessor and whether they’ll release the other two, though I doubt they’ll surpass the quality of these charming and pleasant ‘Daily Fragrances’.
This is for peeing and not spilling a drop. Assuming it costs six euros, the bottle is dreadful (ugly is an understatement), and the first blast is a bit of a turn-off due to the strong smell of cheap air freshener. However, let it settle for half an hour… to put it bluntly, a resulting and showy scent of incense, not frankincense. That typical aroma of a fairground stall selling various incense sticks. The drying down is very interesting; it has echoes of Goutal’s Ambre Fetiche (don’t kill me, I’ve had the Goutal, I know it’s better). The curious thing about this perfume isn’t that it leaves a scent trail; no, the thing is that a six-euro cologne has echoes and afternotes of bookish orientals, opulent and dense, and curiously doesn’t smell cheap. Perhaps this style of Arab perfume hasn’t been cloned in supermarket lines. I smell medicinal oud, a zero-sweet vanilla, erotic and dense, also some memory of very dark amber and even hyacinth. Completely unisex, as can be an abstract and undefined aroma like a morería or an Arab market. Highly recommended when it dries…
This is for urinating on, not for spraying a drop. I assume it costs six euros, the bottle is ugly, and the first blast knocks you back with its cheap air-freshener whiff. But let it settle for half an hour… to cut to the chase, it’s a smoky, incense-like scent, not actual incense. That typical fairground stall aroma with assorted sticks. The dry-down is interesting, it has echoes of Goutal’s Ambre Fetiche (don’t kill me, I’ve had it, I know it’s better). The curious thing isn’t that it’s wearable, but that a six-euro cologne has hints of bookish, opulent, dense orientals, and doesn’t smell cheap. Perhaps this Arab style hasn’t been cloned in supermarkets. It smells of medicinal oud, zero-sweet vanilla, erotic and dense, some dark amber, and even juniper. Completely unisex, like the abstract aroma of a morería or Arab market. Highly recommended when it dries down.
I see similarities with Prada Amber Intense and I own both.
I tried the ‘daily fragrance’ version of Axe. Like any perfume, it lasted a few hours and left a soft trail. I liked it a lot, but after three weeks, when there was more than half left, the scent almost disappeared completely. It’s strange; now that I use it, I don’t feel all the essences, only some very faint ones.
Actually, it’s called ‘AXE – Signature’, Oud Wood & Dark Vanilla. The bottle looks like a deodorant pot, but it isn’t; not even the spray, which works brilliantly, is among the best I’ve tried. It smells like FÉ NO ME NAL, it’s dark (but not heavy), fresh, spicy, with a gourmand touch. It’s a daily fragrance, very cheap, to splash out on without guilt. A pleasant surprise.
The exact same thing happened to me with A*Men… a repulsion and headache that made me have to wash the wrist where I tested it. Clearly, that vanilla doesn’t suit me, but it’s very personal. For the price it has and the longevity, if you like that type of perfume, you’ll love it.
It happened to me with A*men too: it made me feel sick and gave me a headache; I had to wash my wrist. That vanilla isn’t for me, it’s too personal. But given the price and longevity, if you like that style, you’ll love it.
It is no jewel, but it could have been worse. After a slightly rough and alcoholic opening, a scent with a linear and pleasant development settles, especially given the price. Regarding longevity… strangely long-lasting on my skin. More than 18 hours after application, it is still felt close to the skin and seems to emerge after exercise. As for projection and sillage, they are extremely weak. Perhaps for an hour and moderately. The atomiser is extremely powerful 😀
It comes out very alcoholic and artificial, like any ordinary Axe product, but once it dries, it smells good and even better considering the price, which is practically non-existent. Regarding the aroma, I don’t detect much oud, but there is a vanilla that isn’t very sweet; rather, it’s rough, dry, and dark. To that vanilla, they add a chocolate leaning towards pure, but with a certain sweet touch that rounds off the fragrance beautifully. The longevity on my skin exceeds 10 hours and it has a soft trail. The scent only changes at the beginning; once dried, it remains linear until it fades. In short, a very good fragrance for the price. If you’d like to see more reviews, photos, and so on, please check my Instagram (JL_Perfumado) or YouTube (Perfúmate Con JL).
Very alcoholic and artificial opening, like any Axe product. However, once dry, it has a good aroma, and even better, considering the practically non-existent price. In the dry-down, I do not find much oud; rather, a not very sweet vanilla, more rough, dry, and dark. To this vanilla is added a chocolate leaning towards pure, but with a certain sweet contribution that rounds the fragrance off very well. Longevity is superior to 10 hours with a soft sillage. The scent only changes in the opening; once dry, it remains linear until it fades. In short, a very good fragrance for the price. I have a slightly more ‘sophisticated’ version in a gas-free spray. It’s also a perfume water (according to the label, it contains triple the fragrance), not a deodorant. What I have is an Axe perfume. I understand that this brand’s characteristic is its black packaging with colours and metal finishes. Personally, I find it excessive… It’s durable if you want to carry it everywhere, but it’s not necessary, since its longevity is truly impressive. My experience is that I always used it to perfume the tobacco smells in my room (it’s so penetrating it works very well for this), so I never took much notice of its scent, viewing them as emergency deodorants after exercise or to keep in my backpack. When I saw the ‘Daily Fragrance’ presentation, it seemed curious. I knew it would be something sweet and heavy, so I tested it on winter days to note its development. It’s not a complex fragrance; it’s linear (though that’s no longer rare in prestigious houses). Its aroma is described as oud and dark vanilla, but there’s a chocolate sensation. The wood isn’t very noticeable; it seems to have served as a base to prevent the fragrance from becoming cloying. That said, if over-applied, it becomes a total nightmare in enclosed spaces. Definitely not refreshing for hot days, as it would annoy the noses of companions and the wearer. It suits a young, extroverted office worker well; even better, it adds a touch of seriousness and certain attraction: 3 sprays to look good. For casual use, 3-4 sprays to last walks and outings with friends or family, but better on cold days. The truth is, for its price, it’s very good. I think Axe has done a good job entering the ‘world’ of perfumes at a low cost. But again, I’d use it less than Vibrant Leather or similar cheap fragrances. Recommendation: do not over-apply, as it disturbs noses and could even bore the wearer. With 3 sprays, you’re good for about 8-10 hours and it’s somewhat attractive. With 5 or more, you’ll smell the same until the next day, but its trail could become unbearable.
I have a more ‘sophisticated’ spray version without gas. It is also eau de perfume (it claims to have triple fragrance), not a dry-down. What I have is an Axe perfume. It is resistant if you want to carry it everywhere, but it is not necessary, as its longevity is impressive. I used it to perfume the tobacco in my room; it is so penetrating that it serves that purpose, so I never took much importance to the scent itself, as the dry-downs from the brand were for emergencies after exercise or to carry in the backpack. With 5 or more, you smell the same until the next day, but the sillage becomes unbearable.
I have the Cool Spray version, which is gas-free and alcohol-free. This is neither that presentation nor the same product; this is a dry-down with gas and alcohol. What I have is Daily Fragrance, without gas or alcohol. The fragrance is pleasant and balanced: vanilla with oud, a harmless oud without mustiness, and a hint of tobacco and chocolate. Perfect for daily use, smells rich at an accessible price. Look for DAILY FRAGRANCE AXE.
Very good. It’s like a sort of Spicebomb Extreme deodorant by Viktor and Rolf. It also reminds me of some perfumes with oud. But on the other hand… is this a joke? It seems to have a power far above the average within deodorants and also above some (a few) designer perfumes and even niche ones. If these performance standards were achieved with any deodorant, what would be left for perfumes? A warning to current production in EDT, EDP, and perfume concentrations, which for the most part neither last nor project. With which I seriously conclude that this type of product makes one seriously question paying excessive amounts for nothing but marketing?
Very good. It is like an oud version of Viktor and Rolf’s Spicebomb Extreme; it also reminds me of perfumes with oud. But… is this a joke? It seems to have a potency far above the average for dry-downs, and even some designer or niche perfumes. If they can achieve this in any dry-down, what is left for perfumes? A call to action for current production regarding EDT, EDP, and perfume concentrations, most of which neither last nor project. Conclusion: does this not make one question paying excessive amounts for mere marketing?
My go-to deodorant for the cold season. Besides lasting on the skin for ages, it doesn’t smell like cheap deodorant and can even pass for the base notes of a designer perfume, like Mugler’s A*Men. That said, never use it in summer or on sunny days. The degraded smell in the heat is repulsive; you just want to get home as quickly as possible to shower.
My go-to dry-down for cold weather. It lasts on the skin for ages, does not smell like cheap dry-down, and can even pass for the base notes of a designer fragrance, such as Mugler’s A-Men. Warning: never use in summer or on sunny days. The heat-degraded scent is repulsive; you just want to get home quickly to shower.
I dislike it entirely. It smells of decent, albeit artificial, oud, but with a little heat the scent degrades and is no longer pleasant. It happens exactly as with Essence Axe: after a few hours, the pleasant smell degrades enormously.
I absolutely don’t like it; it smells of fairly decent but artificial oud. However, as already mentioned, with a little heat it degrades its scent and is no longer pleasant. The same happens with the Essence Axe; after a few hours, the pleasant smell degrades enormously.
Smells like Aquilaria wood (oud), but the problem is that it oxidises quickly on the skin: the scent becomes smoky, acidic, and heavy, and in the heat, it can become unpleasant. It is not a bad cologne, but the price is ridiculous for this overrated oud. Perhaps if they had better balanced that invasive scent, they would have created something superior. I do not detect the dark vanilla; it is very linear and the oud dominates throughout.
I tested this in 2018: the Signature version has little sillage and doesn’t last. Conversely, the dry-down on clothing invites closeness. In summer, it is almost unusable as it becomes dense and unbearable for oneself. The ideal approach is to mix it with another cologne that doesn’t follow the same path to create exquisite scents.
I had this fragrance in 2018. The signature version doesn’t have a very good trail and isn’t very long-lasting. On the other hand, the deodorant version, when applied to clothes, invites closeness; in summer it’s almost unusable because it becomes very dense and unbearable to smell for oneself. I’d say it’s perfect for mixing with another cologne that doesn’t follow the same path to combine exquisite scents.
Dense and potent fragrance. Features a well-structured vanilla base and a synthetic oud that, while artificial, is executed brilliantly with oriental wood nuances and a very aromatic profile. The EDT is no longer available. The dry-down lasts moderately if applied generously; ideal for autumn as others have noted. Best regards, friends.
One of the best body sprays in Axe history.
It’s a very pleasant fragrance with excellent value, although it’s not very strong (without much trail). It has good longevity. Every time I use it, especially women, tell me I smell good. I don’t recommend it on hot days or afternoons; it suits mornings, evenings, or cold climates better. It’s somewhat similar to Tabacco Vanille.
It’s very rich; I don’t recommend it as a deodorant, but as a fragrance, yes. I went without perfumes for a while and this was my salvation. I recommend it for winter; apply it generously because the cold and wind take it away. Prioritise applying it to clothes to leave an exquisite trail. In conclusion, it’s spectacular.
Exquisite. I met it when it launched at a small presentation; it came in a black box, travel-sized for a handbag. Yesterday I bought the common aerosol after not seeing it on the shelves for a while. I love it. It has very good longevity and trail. It’s an Axe jewel, ideal for cold and cloudy days. I hope to find the small presentation again.
I bought the gas deodorant to use after a shower. The scent is very good, sweet and vanilla-like; I apply it to my armpits and arms. It’s ideal before putting on another fragrance or when you don’t want to use perfume. I’d like to try the liquid perfume, but it’s out of stock everywhere.
This has to be the best Axe fragrance of all time. I can’t believe I like it more than many designer and niche fragrances. It smells of sweet wood, vanilla, and almost smoky notes. It’s spectacular, good quality, lasts a long time, and costs almost nothing. The only downside is the poor projection, but I use it to smell it myself because I love it. It will surely become a classic like Axe Musk. In body sprays, nothing beats this.
I love how much the oud is noticeable and it’s very well crafted. The incredible thing is that it lasts longer than many perfumes that cost ten or twenty times more here in Argentina.
I don’t know why others like it; I bought it and it smells exactly like my grandmother’s old, damp furniture. It’s a wet wood scent that doesn’t convince me. At first, I thought it was antique wood, but after a few hours, I noticed the vanilla, which is pleasant. It’s rich but not spectacular, just cheap vanilla. 7/10 as a deodorant, far from Old Spice but worth it. Be warned, that damp smell is annoying and it’s not for everyone.
Finally, I’ve found the scent I was looking for, the AXE Gold with Oud. It’s richer and sweeter, combining perfectly with the oud and vanilla, although it’s more intense than the Gold Temptation. It resembles the latter very closely.
This is the best AXE Forever of all, even Andrés Perfume-Man chose it! I met it over six years ago, knew it was different, and bought three of the first batches. Does anyone know where to get the AXE Signature Oud Vanilla, also known as Pump? It’s the perfume of this Gold and has been discontinued for years.
