Descripción
Dark Temptation by AXE is an oriental fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2013, the nose behind this composition is Ann Gottlieb. The top notes reveal cherry, pear, ginger and coriander; the heart unfolds red chilli, sage and basil; while the base notes close the olfactory pyramid with dark chocolate, vanilla, whipped cream, amber and patchouli.

Along with Axe Chocolate, it is the worst I have been able to smell. It resembles it a little, only a little, to Henrique Iglesias’ Adrenaline, but that one is acceptable.
Very good. Combines ideally with Animal Animal and the whole A*Men range.
There is the EDT which can be obtained at a very modest price; the photo here is of the Body Deodorant. A clarification, this is the one with cocoa (which they mention as AXE Chocolate).
I do not know if I tried the Body Spray or the deodorant, but on paper it lasted very little, about 2 hours. I will have to keep testing it. The smell was not unpleasant but very generic and gourmand; I noted mainly a sweetness mix of vanilla-amber-cacao with milky notes, leaving the impression of something sweet but without recreating a concrete idea. This makes me reject it. Trying to achieve a cocoa, vanilla, or any element scent requires several chemicals to enrich the note and make it credible. There are always ‘crucial’ molecules, but trying to create a correct floral burst with few elements produces a vague, insubstantial, and more or less synthetic air (despite everything being synthetic in modern perfumery). On this point it is curious: whether synthetic or not, it is easy to confuse and difficult to explain. The synthetic vanillas of Yves Rocher, for example, I feel as synthetic as the pepper from any mid-range brand. I think this is a characteristic not only of the formula but of the olfactory family, and it gets confused with the incisive, penetrating, pungent…
The reviled Axe ones seem to me to be the best deodorants. This one smells terrible and great at the same time xD. The 2012 limited edition was the best. They discontinued it last year 🙁
Axe Dark Temptation, my boss used to wear it and surprised me. I asked him what he was eating that smelled so good; he said it was his deodorant, which caught me by surprise because my boss always smells bad… in any case… I am a woman and I bought it to feel the chocolate aroma… although it smells a bit generic, it does not bother me, I like it…
A scent that brings back bad memories. Years ago, in secondary school. It was what all my classmates used after sport; my nausea came from the mix of sweat and Axe Chocolate, it was the most horrific. In my opinion, one must have very poor taste to use something like that, even there are better deodorants for the same price. Chocolate does not smell like chocolate, it is something I cannot describe.
Just bought it. It is a very, very bitter chocolate, smells nice, fulfils its function but then becomes boring and bland. I even sense a coffee note (perhaps due to the bitterness). I would have preferred it to be a sweet chocolate.
Axe Dark Temptation EDT, 100 ml. Bitter chocolate with a vanilla touch… fruity notes, pear, maybe cherry? A hint of pepper. Smells a bit artificial; on my skin it lasts about four hours with a medium trail. Goes great in any season, day or night… it is neutral and goes unnoticed. Very good for the price. I got it in a pack with the deodorant (which I wanted) and shower gel, all in a useful backpack I use daily… all for around 10 euros… what more could one ask for?
A budget beast that has me hooked. A forum colleague recommended it while looking for women’s fragrances and… what a discovery! Dark Temptation smells almost edible black chocolate with a fruity twist. Irresistible. Ideal for wearing alone or mixing with chocolate scents (look at you, Boss Scent Private Accord for Her). Over time, although it is linear, it becomes slightly more masculine as the fruitiness fades, and I love that twist. The trail is moderate and lasts about three hours, but what does it matter for the price? I use it in the evenings after a shower, needing no more duration. Thanks to this, I discovered Axe body sprays; I bought three at a bargain (Oud Wood & Dark Vanilla, Tobacco & Amber, and Iced Musk & Ginger). They suit women perfectly, come with double the volume, and last longer than the EDT. Of the three, Tobacco & Amber is my favourite, although it is not listed on Fragrantica. Only for lovers of very sweet scents. The other one missing from Fragrantica is Iced Musk & Ginger; despite the name, it smells strongly of fig. Scent 8/10 Longevity 4/10 Sillage 7/10 Value for money 7/10 Versatility 7/10 Packaging 5/10 Would I buy again? Yes
Impeccable! I love it. I bought two 150ml bottles for three dollars and it smells exquisite. Just cherry and dark chocolate, nothing else, and it tastes delicious. It easily lasts four hours on me; I loved it.
Equally excellent. A gourmand bomb of chocolate with pink pepper (the deodorant and EDT have distinct notes) and a creamy amber base. It goes without saying that the deodorant’s longevity on skin is poor, only about two hours, although it lasts longer on clothes and projects well. If you can get the EDT, buy it. If you use the deodorant just for post-shower, go ahead. It’s among the best from Axe, alongside Apollo and Leather & Cookies (buy the latter as a deodorant bar, not an antiperspirant; it’s the one that holds the scent best).
The best cheap fragrance that exists.
The only one it resembles by 90% is Carolina Herrera’s Bad Boy. This Axe Dark Temptation lasts at most three or four hours; it’s not for use in the heat. The sillage is moderate, but when applied in a closed room or house, it’s quite noticeable. It serves to give you an idea of how Bad Boy smells, but this is of much lower quality.
I find it hard to rate because I use it so much I have no first impression and don’t know if it performs better in cold or heat, as I’ve used it for everything. I’ll talk about the aftershave, which smells the same as the EDT and is cheaper, though it comes without a spray nozzle. It’s a warm, pleasant, chocolatey, and sweet scent without being heavy, soft, masculine, and with personality. I love it, but it has its drawbacks. The longevity is good, up to six hours, but the sillage isn’t very good, so I give it a ‘like’ rather than a ‘love’, although it does the job. Anecdote: my G-Shock watch always gets a bit damp and keeps smelling for days afterwards. In summary, it’s a ten for the price; I’ve worn it for years without getting tired of it, and my partner loves it. But if you want to flood the room, this isn’t it.
Simply unpleasant, generic, and lasts less than three hours on the skin, which is what you’d expect from a deodorant.
Smells very sweet of chocolate with a light touch of vanilla, ideal for pairing with tobacco or vanilla perfumes. Unlike others in the line, it doesn’t degrade as much in the heat. Due to its strength, it could overpower the perfume you’re wearing if it’s not potent. It’s designed for cold seasons.
A very potent, sweet chocolate fragrance… cloying from the very first moment, lacking balance and performance. In my opinion, one of the worst from Axe.
Pure chocolate. Let me tell you about the Eau de Toilette (which smells different from the deodorant). The opening is fruity, with cherry and pear mixed with a spicy hint of ginger. I don’t detect the chilli, basil, or sage, just that initial spicy whisper of ginger which then becomes sweeter. The base is gourmand with whipped cream, cocoa, and vanilla. The sweetness is balanced; it’s not a heavy bonbon, suitable for all seasons and after sport. On my skin, the milk chocolate, whipped cream, and vanilla stand out, making it creamy. The patchouli is soft and fruity, while the cherry and pear persist throughout. It’s unisex, cheerful, and relaxed. The sillage is moderate and the longevity is good for an EDT, around seven hours on my skin, with the final hour staying closer to the skin. For the price, it’s a good option made to please everyone.
In the EDT I know, it’s a cherry bathed in chocolate with a fresh, spicy kick at the start, drying down to a warm, sweet finish. It’s not identical to the deodorant in the range, but it suits it perfectly. It smells sweet yet remains masculine. It’s not a masterpiece, but there are commercial perfumes costing ten times as much that smell the same. Lasts about four hours on the skin. Judging it by what it is, it’s not bad.
I’ve only used and known the deodorant for years; in fact, during school days, it was what I used most, coincidentally it was in fashion at that time. It smells largely of chocolate, with some vanilla touches accompanying the blend; it’s sweet. It smells very nice. Both the deodorant and antiperspirant versions work well for what they cost.
The deodorant is a classic, a familiar and much-loved scent among teenagers alike. It has been judged harshly, yet it’s a very well-constructed and pleasant perfumery creation. The deodorant mentions notes of pink pepper, amber, and chocolate. Hence, this explains any spiced, sweet, amber, chocolate, and vanilla nuances it might have. Bottom line: the EDT is richer, has better longevity, and is better constructed than the deodorant, while maintaining a low price. If you can only get the deodorant, all the better; it goes naturally well with being clean-shaven and is best for autumn or winter, preferably at night. It lasts quite a while on clothes, and if you need to use it as a perfume substitute in some situation, it can save you. On skin, it can last a considerable time, speaking of 6 to 8 hours, but on clothes it’s better and very rich to wear. Same for the leather and cookie recommendation.
There’s an error in the product fiche; Dark Temptation was launched in 2008. Since then, the packaging has mutated many times, but in my opinion, the fragrance remains the same. It’s a potent opening of bitter chocolate with sweet fruity nuances, but I don’t feel the renowned cherry… it’s just sweet. It’s very linear; the chocolate persists throughout the perfume’s life. After the initial burst of bitter chocolate, the Praliné appears with traces of a gourmet aroma, presumably vanilla, but very subtle, finishing with a dry-down of patchouli. This scent is the great-grandfather of all modern gourmet fragrances: 1 Million, XS Pure, Bad Boy, Versace Eros, etc., etc. It was very bold at launch, and the commercial would surely be censored nowadays by the cannibalistic girls who ate the protagonist. I still use it because it has good fixation on the skin and sillage for a deodorant; it’s more than worthy.
I can’t take this fragrance seriously; at least in my teenage years here in Chile, all my friends used it after exercising to mask the sweat smell, hahaha.
I used it during my teenage years, stealing it from my brother and sometimes from some friends. Later, I bought it myself 😂. I was young and broke… and well! I used this perfume where the chocolate scent… didn’t smell like intense chocolate. Rather, it was something sweet and spiced; from the start, the fruity notes and whipped cream don’t exist! But, what can you expect from a deodorant used by teenagers… and some adults? (Adults: there are cuter low-cost options, for real).
It’s good, nothing extraordinary, sweet, and if it’s on offer, it’s worth it.
@mr baskerville I agree with you about olfactory fatigue; it’s an important factor to consider. What I usually do is take a clean T-shirt, apply my usual perfume, and leave it in a room. Then I enter and exit at different times, even changing rooms, to truly gauge the perfume’s performance. I do this because my pH isn’t very friendly to perfumes, but it seems to work well with Axe; what luck I have.
AXE fragrances bring back memories of my teenage years; it’s like a time travel experience.
@sisucoro I’ll share that I’ve been using Pravia Hay bar soap for a long time. I can assure you that once the container is opened and the bar placed in the bathroom soap dish, the scent fills the entire room intensely for several days. I’ve tried placing a fresh piece of the bar among clean clothes in the drawers, and the aroma permeates them, which is delightful for the garments. I suppose the issue is complex, but a convincing explanation (or accessory) for the oft-maligned olfactory fatigue would be welcome. Regarding the AXE Dark Temptation scent, allowing for some distance, it also reminds me of Carolina Herrera’s Bad Boy.
Just a reflection: Today I spent a lot of time outdoors in the heat running errands and noticed how much my deodorant needed refreshing. In a hurry, I grabbed this deodorant by chance as it’s a classic that evokes some teenage memories; I’m not sure if it was expensive or on offer, but it cost me about £3. In a bar’s washroom, I freshened up and sprayed a couple of sprays under each arm. Well, the scent of this deodorant, regardless of whether it’s good or not (it has that typical Invictus/Born in Roma smell), lasts and projects so strongly that I can’t stop smelling it. I have few perfumes that project as intensely as this deodorant. I’m not saying this as a virtue but as a reflection of how perfume houses laugh in our faces by selling those ‘eaux’ at Kobe beef prices that don’t last or project a thing; just dirty pharmacy alcohol. Considering it cost £3 and smells similar to many designer perfumes, it’s clear that the ‘ingredients’ issue isn’t the culprit; the scam is abysmal. Buy one and compare it with your perfumes to see what conclusions you draw.
I have it and use it as it is, a body spray deodorant xD. I like the scent it has, it’s brilliant, haha 10/10.
This smells like school and adolescence, hehe. There must be something to it when its base is partly emulated in other famous perfumes like Carolina Herrera’s Bad Boy.
In my school days this was mandatory, how rich it was…
This perfume smells like adolescence, a time when everything was simpler and we only worried about looking good for the girls. While it wasn’t the best scent one could find for a teenager, it was what there was and it was definitely THE deodorant. Although for me the best Axe deodorant was ‘Instinct’, I keep this one in my heart.
What is this doing here? Please, a bit of shame and respect. There’s not much more to say: it smells cheap and vulgar. But it wasn’t just the scent; that cheap stench came accompanied by a slap of sweat and grime. Everyone wore it after training and showering, and the room turned into a sewer from the mixture. The worst part is that, when it finally dissipated after an hour and a half, what remained was even worse: amplified rancid sweat. Simply abominable.
I’ll just say it’s worth it if you have a good shower and apply it to watch movies or relax at home with friends…
This Axe is one of the best from my childhood. The smell of chocolate with whipped cream is brilliant; I always had the aerosol deodorant but also tried the roll-on, antiperspirant spray and the bar, as it’s the best-selling one. Besides, I have an essence and another aerosol deodorant because I like the Axe scent.
It was the top stuff in secondary school and I still love it. It was a modern scent that broke with the traditional masculine perfumes, like tobacco or woody ones.
Once a university lecturer said I smelled like ‘a kindergarten egg’. I was wearing Gentleman Society, so I suppose it’s another distant relative of this scent.
What nostalgia! It was once controversial for how gourmand it was. I remember that iconic advert… For a deodorant, it has very interesting notes and a good development; you can tell the quality and the difference Axe makes compared to other brands. This fragrance seems exquisite; although it revolves around chocolate, it has incredible fruity notes. The red chilli makes sense; it’s a good combination: that chocolate and vanilla sweetness breaks the spice with an aroma that brings maturity and masculinity. In my adolescence, this deodorant was girls’ obsession and everyone smelled like it, haha… Nowadays I still find its charm, and frankly, when I bought Bad Boy Extreme and Elixir, I did so thinking of this scent, as if it were its spiritual successor.
