Ann Gottlieb
Ann Gottlieb is a well-known fragrance developer with more than 50 years of experience in the cosmetics industry. She began her career at Revlon and later joined the Estée Lauder Company, where she worked for six and a half years and learned the art, science and business of fragrances under Estée Lauder’s personal tutelage. Gottlieb then became head of product development for Elizabeth Arden and Warner Cosmetics, where she took part in the creation of Gloria Vanderbilt.
In 1983, Gottlieb founded her consulting firm, Ann Gottlieb Associates, committed to providing specialised fragrance and product development services to the fragrance industry. She has developed highly successful best-selling fragrances across all market segments, including the fifteen fragrances of Calvin Klein, Chic and 212 by Carolina Herrera, and Signature Brand by Liz Claiborne. Gottlieb has also developed successful fragrances in the mass market, including variants for Unilever’s deodorant cologne giants, Axe and Impulse, Victoria's Secret and Bath and Body Works.
Gottlieb is known for her ability to translate fragrance concepts into motivating instructions for perfumers, and for collaborating with clients and perfumers to create uniquely designed aromas for the target consumer. Her relationship of mutual respect with leading fragrance companies around the world is fundamental to her success, and her experience in marketing places her at the forefront of trends across all segments of the fragrance business.
Gottlieb has received numerous awards and honours for her contributions to the fragrance industry, including the 2002 CEW Achiever Award from Cosmetic Executive Women, the 2004 Living Legend Award from the American Society of Perfumers, and the 2006 Circle of Champions Award from The Fragrance Foundation. She is also frequently cited in the media as an authority on fragrances.
