It arrived with an immense reputation: Island Dreams by Khadlaj. The question was brutal: can a clone under 50 dollars do the same as a titan of 600 dollars (Symphony by LV)? On my skin, the answer was direct. The opening is not citrusy, it’s an explosion of acidic and caramelised lemon, almost effervescent. The ginger doesn’t accompany, it stomps, like in a freshly made lemonade that is still bubbling. The heart of grapefruit is juicy, tropical, but with that bitter edge that forces you to go back for more. That addictive trail, that sensation of salty skin drying in the sun that lingers, is not magic, it’s science. The responsible one is Ambroxan, a molecule that mimics ambergris with such power that our brain perceives it in minimum doses, creating that unmistakable marine depth. Verdict: a resounding yes. It’s not original, it’s a brilliant execution. It gives you 90% of the soul of an inaccessible niche at a price that is an insult to luxury. For sunny days, to feel clean, happy and dangerously smart with your money. It’s a conquest.
Arrived with a reputation as a giant: Island Dreams by Khadlaj. The doubt was brutal: can a clone under $50 match a titan like LV’s Symphony at $600? On my skin, the answer was a direct hit. It’s not a citrus; it’s an explosion of acid-caramel lemon, almost effervescent. The ginger doesn’t accompany; it dominates, like a freshly made lemonade still fizzing with life. The grapefruit heart is juicy and tropical, yet retains that bitter edge that compels you to reach for more. And that addictive trail, that sensation of salty skin drying in the sun that lasts for hours, isn’t magic, it’s science. I know the culprit is Ambroxan, a molecule that mimics ambergris with such potency that our brains detect it even in minimal doses, creating that unmistakable marine depth. My verdict: a resounding YES. It’s not an original work, but a brilliant execution. It delivers 90% of the soul of an inaccessible niche at a price that is almost an insult to the luxury industry. Perfect for sunny days, to feel clean, happy, and dangerously smart with your money. It is, without a doubt, a conquest. @Perfumeriapodcast
I have this perfume. I went to smell the Symphony in an LV store and said ‘wow, they’re the same’. After using Island Dreams so much, I knew it for sure. It’s an incredibly realistic grapefruit with a ginger that makes it more sparkling. Everyone has liked it, men and women. I can’t talk much about longevity, as neither this nor the Symphony last me more than 4-5 hours, although I’ve heard they last forever. Conclusion: there’s no need to buy the Symphony if this exists. If you hesitate, buy it if you can find it. WARNING: I had to let it macerate for a few weeks to reach its peak. If it doesn’t convince you at first, give it a chance.
Very good perfume, great rich aroma. But the longevity on skin is very poor. It reminded me of a super sweet Squirt soda.
I’m not going to compare it to the LV because I don’t know how it smells or I haven’t tried it. Influenced by influencers praising it, I bought this clone and it has little of being excellent. The opening is citrusy and sweet, seems like it will please, but the dry down is horrible. It happens to me with most Arab perfumes; in my collection only the Liquidi Brun rests. Island Dreams is economical in every sense: poor quality, poor longevity and zero projection. I’ll use it at the gym because with luck it lasts an hour doing cardio. In the dry down it seems to have a personality crisis: it doesn’t decide whether to be citrusy, mossy, herbal, musky or earthy. In short, it’s synthetic, there it has triumphed. Don’t buy it without trying, it smells like fly repellent from Mercadona.
I own this perfume and recently went to smell the much-talked-about Symphony in the LV store. Upon smelling it, the only thing I said was ‘wow, they are the same’; having worn Island Dreams so much, I could say it with certainty, it was the exact same scent. An incredibly realistic grapefruit accompanied by this ginger that makes it a bit more sparkling; it is incredibly well-received by anyone who has smelled it, men and women alike. I can’t speak much about longevity, as neither this nor the Symphony last more than 4-5 hours on me, though I have heard people say Island Dreams lasts forever, just as I have heard the same about the Symphony. Conclusion: I think you don’t need to buy the Symphony when this fragrance exists. If you are hesitating whether to buy it or not, I would recommend you do so if you can find it available. WARNING: I had to let it macerate for a few weeks for it to reach its peak in scent and longevity; if it doesn’t convince you at first, give it a chance.
I really liked this perfume. On my skin, it opens with a gentle sweetness: the bergamot doesn’t sparkle; it blends with the grapefruit into a rounded, softly sweet nuance. The ginger appears restrained, without aggressive heat. As it dries, the musk takes centre stage, offering a clean and comfortable sensation rather than an elegant one, while the Ambroxan amplifies that neat and enveloping trail. Longevity is around six hours, with moderate sillage and noticeable projection for the first two. It is very affordable and totally worth it. I don’t know the LV, so I prefer not to make comparisons.
I liked it a lot. On my skin it’s sweet and gentle: the bergamot doesn’t sparkle, it blends with the grapefruit in a round and soft nuance. The ginger is contained, without stinging. As it dries, the musk dominates, giving a clean and comfortable feeling rather than elegant, while the ambroxan amplifies that neat and enveloping trail. Lasts about six hours with moderate trail and notable projection at first. It’s very economical and worth it. I don’t know the LV, so I don’t compare it.
Honestly, the Symphony seemed mediocre to me at first; it smelled nice but a bit feminine and boring. Over time I’ve evolved and now I understand the hype. Even though it still seems overpriced, Island Dreams does it for a fraction of the cost. I just notice it’s a bit more synthetic, but it’s very good and I like it more and more.
Smells great. Not my usual style, but it’s very citrusy; the opening is an effervescent explosion of lemon. It has presence, is fresh and good for the heat. Edit: over time I’ve grown to like it more. It no longer smells like lemon but grapefruit and bergamot. It’s very citrusy, elegant and perfect for a hot day.
I remember loving the Symphony and looked for this dupe quickly. It smells similar, though perhaps I expected more. It also reminds me of Dior Homme Cologne. Rich, without more to say.
I remember I loved the Symphony and quickly went for this dupe. It smells similar, though perhaps I expected a bit more; it also reminds me of Dior Homme Cologne, rich and nothing else.
Sorry to say, but it smells like coriander. I tested it on blotting paper and it came out smelling like bad coriander. If anyone knows if it changes when applied to the skin, I’d appreciate it.
Sounds citrusy with a hint of peach not listed on the spec sheet, but that’s what it smells like on my skin. Longevity is average, but I can tell the ingredients are quality and not too synthetic for such a low price. Perfect for spring and summer.
I perceive a citrus fragrance but with a touch of peach. It isn’t listed as a note, but on my skin and my nose, that is exactly what it smells like. Longevity and sillage are average. I note quality components, very little synthetic, considering its low price. It is very pleasant for summer and spring.
