I tried it on a friend’s recommendation to see if it was worth buying. I never imagined its notes were so common in masculine fragrances I enjoy, yet it is undeniably feminine and possesses that winter consistency known as strength. I don’t detect the anise or citrus (at least not on skin); what dominates is the jasmine, cardamom, and a hint of cinnamon. In the dry-down, the base notes emerge: sandalwood, amber, and patchouli. If asked, I’d say it has only two levels in its pyramid, but I don’t want to close my mouth; let others try it. Given its potency, I envy nothing of the stronger scents from Etat Libre d’Orange or Costume National Homme (which I owned and discarded because it seemed ideal for women as well as being powerful). In short, it’s a beautiful and potent fragrance, a ‘María Félix’ of the olfactory world, but it doesn’t surpass that rich, feminine gourmand called Pure eVe (aka Pure Virgin). PS: I always struggle to identify citrus in feminine scents, so please take that into account in my opinion.
I tried this today on a friend’s recommendation to see if it was worth the price. I never imagined its notes would be these, ingredients very commonly used lately in male fragrances I enjoy, yet it is undeniably feminine with a winter-like consistency, almost possessing ‘strength’. On blotter paper, I detect neither anise nor citrus; what dominates is the jasmine and cardamomo (perhaps a hint of cinnamon). In the dry-down, the base notes emerge: sandalwood, amber, and patchouli. If asked, I’d say it has only two levels in its pyramid, but I don’t wish to be definitive; let others try it. Given its ‘consistency’, I envy nothing about the stronger scents from Etat Libre d’Orange or Costume National Homme (which I owned and discarded because I felt it was ideal for women as well as being potent). In summary, it’s a lovely and powerful fragrance, a ‘María Félix’ of the olfactory world, but it doesn’t surpass that rich and feminine gourmand called Pure eVe (aka Pure Virgin). PS: I always struggle to identify citrus notes in feminine scents; please consider that factor.
Second time with Different Company and it’s Jazmin de Nuit’s turn. A soft, springtime fragrance for sunny days. It opens with well-balanced star anise and the citrus of bergamot; together they create a pleasant scent. I only detect cardamomo in the heart and sandalwood at the base, particularly the patchouli. The trail is moderate and the projection lasts no more than two hours; afterwards, it sits close to the skin. It’s unisex, but leans slightly towards the feminine. As I said, ideal for spring mornings and afternoons, though I wouldn’t recommend it for evening wear as it lacks a powerful punch. Several people mentioned it was sweet, but in my humble opinion, I don’t find it sweet, rather spiced. In my view, it works well for casual encounters but not for formal occasions. Finally, I must highlight that both Jazmin de Nuit and Oriental Lounge (which I reviewed earlier) reveal their true potential in spring; if you try them in summer, autumn or winter, they don’t perform the same way.
My second stop at Different Company was Nuit de Jasmin. A soft, springtime fragrance perfect for sunny days. The star anise and bergamot balance beautifully, creating a pleasant aroma. I only detect cardamomo in the heart, with sandalwood and, above all, patchouli in the base. The trail is moderate, projecting for about two hours before settling close to the skin. It’s unisex but leans slightly feminine. As I mentioned, it’s ideal for spring mornings and afternoons; I wouldn’t recommend it for evening wear due to a lack of projection. While several people found it sweet, I don’t smell sweetness here, but rather spice. In my opinion, it suits casual encounters rather than formal events. I must highlight that both Nuit de Jasmin and Oriental Lounge, which I’ve already reviewed, truly shine in spring; tested in summer, autumn, and winter, they simply don’t show that same potential.
