Based on the notes, it sounds like that typical modern sweet-ambery scent with wood and pepper (like Sauvage?), but looking at the dry-down, what lies behind it will surely surprise us all.
I smelled this this morning in the perfumery; it’s very similar to its predecessor ‘This is Him!’, which I liked but eventually grew tired of. Perhaps this one is more potent in the opening, darker and with greater presence of incense and vanilla. The dry-down is practically the same as the previous one. The longevity on skin seems more enduring to me; for me, it’s the INTENSE version of the previous one.
It’s a smoky vanilla, barely sweet. For me, liking vanilla is unusual, as I usually find such perfumes too heavy. This is the only one with a noticeable vanilla note that I’ve truly loved.
Smoked vanilla. I disagree that this flanker is the ‘Intense’ version of ‘This is Him!’; rather, I think it’s a more relaxed version. It opens very intensely, alcoholic and like a bomb of spices, but once it settles, the vanilla comes out. It’s not sweet; it accompanies woody notes to give a slightly smoky and subtly ambered sensation. In the end, it recalls a shy pipe tobacco. Trail is moderate/soft. I insist: it opens like a bomb, but after 15 minutes it relaxes and drops to skin-level within hours (no more than 4). It’s not a bad option, but I prefer ‘This is Him!’. If I were to score: Aroma 8, Longevity 7, Trail 7.
I don’t know it… someone gave me a sample this morning… I’m going to wear it… I’ll let you know what I think!
Another one of those… EDT… smells great… but it doesn’t last more than two hours on my skin… I’ve applied an entire 1.2ml sample.
Soft vanilla with hints of incense, no smoke. Leaves me with an exquisite scent, very similar to raspberry. The trail is acceptable: it doesn’t overwhelm but doesn’t fade either, and the longevity is good. It’s a nocturnal spirit, but it wears perfectly during the day, especially with rain and cold.
Woods, vanilla and amber. A warm and cosy fragrance that, over time, reveals a slight spicy kick. It’s soft, subtle and enchanting; the wood reminds me of coloured pencils I used in primary school back in my day.

It’s curious that the opening seemed a bit dirty and eighties-style to me; it hit me like a gust reminding me of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. After a few minutes it changed completely and the woody facet emerged. For a good while I also noticed a hint of eucalyptus. Basically it’s a vanilla-woody scent. I find it pleasant although it hasn’t won me over quite as much as ‘This is Him’.
For me, this has unexpectedly become a masterpiece of perfumery. The first time I tried it, its vintage opening and evolution shocked me, especially that pencil-shaving scent in the heart phase, which made me doubt whether I wanted to smell that. Minutes turned into hours, and I couldn’t stop bringing my nose to my arm. I tried to resist, testing it several times months apart, thinking that connection would fade and that it was a mistake due to smelling multiple fragrances on the same day, but in the end, I surrendered. I just say I love it; it’s one of my two favourites. That pencil-shaving woodiness mixed with vanilla and other nuances is surprising, attractive, warm and magnetic. Thank you, Mrs Lorson, eternally grateful. P.S.: Tested side by side with its sister Z&V This Is Him, I stick with this one; it feels darker, denser and woodier. Bravo!
For me, this has unexpectedly become a masterpiece of perfumery. Spectacular incense-like vanilla. Lasts much better than its sister This Is Him. Nighttime, seductive. A real perfumazo.
Spectacular smoked vanilla. Lasts much better than its sibling, This is Him. Nocturnal and seductive. A real gem.
I’m absolutely obsessed with Zadig & Voltaire because their scents have nothing to do with today’s commercial perfumes. This one smells of pure incense, very refined and lovely, blended with woods, vanilla, amber, spices and patchouli. It seemed super original when I tried it and I liked it so much I bought the bottle. There’s no comparison because it’s unique and special. It’s called ‘Only Rock’ and invites you to throw on a leather jacket and blast Cher at maximum volume. I love the feel of the bottle and the gold lettering; it gives it a special touch. The side features its feminine version in white, which is also a fantastic scent that’s worth considering.
