Let’s hope we can get hold of it, as I haven’t been able to try the Noir Argent or Or Encens here in Spain.
What a madness! It’s oriental, balsamic, amber, it has everything. A niche scent made by a designer, rare and complicated to find. It leans more towards Armani Privé or Guerlain than any normal designer brand. The only downside is that it fades quickly. Imagine taking the citrus out of the Nuit and replacing it with incense softened by amber, over leather sweetened with vanilla and tonka. You can smell everything at once, and every note is distinct. 9/10, although I prefer Noir Argent.
Exquisite.
One of the best launches of 2019. Incredible how the incense, leather, and amber blend with vanilla and tonka in a perfect composition. It’s dark, sensual, tempting, and alluring. Ideal for autumn and winter. Alongside Noir Argent, they are the queens of the Nuit D’Issey line. Scent: 9.5/10. Age: 25+. Season: Autumn-Winter. Occasions: Dates, formal, evening. Projection: Moderate. Longevity: 6-7 hours.
I tried this gem in a perfumerie because here in Colombia it’s a treasure hard to come by. The rating is sky-high; it deserves to be at the very top. What a masterpiece! As soon as I applied it to my arm, the scent was exquisite. It’s nocturnal, mysterious, and there’s no better name for it. Update: I’ve worn it for a year and the notes have matured; today I detect a sweet chocolate, nothing cloying. It still surprises me! Sublime.
Fantastic fragrance from Miyake. A dense, dark aroma due to the predominance of incense and creamy due to the Haba Tonka and vanilla parts. Perfect for Autumn and Winter nights, this fragrance is the evolution of Miyake Noir Argent. It has been worth the wait to get it, undoubtedly an exquisite fragrance resulting from very good work by the people at Issey Miyake.
Nuit d’Issey Pulse Of The Night is a perfumed alchemy that releases its power only after sunset, like a flower that blooms only at night. That is why, when it gets dark, its scent envelops and transforms the wearer. It is the magic of the new flanker from the Japanese master. Its warm trail has a mysterious power that gifts pure sensuality. A powerful opening of incense marks the beginning of this wonder, well blended shortly afterwards with patchouli and amber. Immediately you understand you are facing something beautiful, precious, and addictive. It is difficult to explain the feeling, but you perceive it instantly. What is the ideal moment? When, well-dressed and slightly tanned, you realise that just 5 sprays are enough and… the magic begins! It is obviously night, but a magical night, not gloomy, that doesn’t inspire fear but makes you think dreams can come true and that all desires are within reach. It is a unique, original scent, with notable body, decent longevity, and a presentation that evokes its nocturnal character. (Courtesy of Sejano77)
Unfortunately, I made the mistake of ‘kobazang’ and bought it blindly driven by unanimous reviews. It has disappointed me because it doesn’t seem new to me at all. I won’t judge whether it’s niche or not due to a lack of knowledge. It’s a mix between Midnight in Paris, Dior Homme, Bvlgari Black, and Pure Tonka or some other Mugler flanker, without the brutal opening or the performance of all of them. The hype is totally unjustified.
I almost bought it blindly via online order due to excellent comments, but happily I found it in a physical store where I tested it and it disappointed me, confirming that scents are a world apart for each person. My wife didn’t like it, and I found it a sweet smell, like chocolate. It’s not bad, but I would have regretted buying it. The trail remained smelling until the next day, but… not enough.
Unfortunately, I made the same mistake as ‘kobazang’ and bought it driven by the unanimous praise. It disappoints me because nothing new smells like this. I can’t quite judge whether it’s niche or high-quality, but it’s a blend of Midnight in Paris, Dior Homme, Bvlgari Black and Pure Tonka, without the brutal dry-down or performance of those. The hype is completely unjustified.
I almost bought it blindly based on the glowing reviews, but trying it in-store was a letdown: scent is subjective, my wife didn’t like it and to me it smells like sweet chocolate. It’s not bad, but I would have regretted buying it. The spray lasted until the next day, but… it’s just not worth it.
What a savage perfume, what a pity they discontinue it while other bad ones remain on sale… this is an absolute delight. Incense, vanilla, tonka, amber, and leather, and to a lesser extent patchouli. It’s a delight. I was lucky to get a decant and as soon as I tried it, I went crazy searching until I found a full bottle… DELICIOUS!
What a shame! It’s a pity they’ve discontinued it and are still selling mediocre perfumes. This is an absolute delight. Incense, vanilla, tonka, amber, leather, and a touch of patchouli. A wonder. I was lucky with a decant and went crazy searching until I found a full bottle. Delicious!
Sweet, pleasant incense that isn’t overwhelming for me. Correct duration for an EDP (6+ hours). I like it more than the classic Nuit, precisely because of the incense note that wraps in mystery the elegance and softness of the leather. Perfect for types who awaken interest for who they are, not just for the scent; it complements the whole. Hyped in some reviewer circles that elevate it to almost niche status. For me, it’s a good perfume, period.
I bought decants of the Nuit d’Issey collection. I already have the EDT and EDP at home. The flanker OR ENCENS is interesting, but since I managed to get the discontinued NOIR AMBRÉ, which isn’t part of the collection but resembles it quite a bit. Regarding PULSE OF THE NIGHT, it’s discontinued and if it appears, it’s sky-high in price; I believe POLARIS substitutes it perfectly. According to my decants, the aromatic difference is minimal. Of course, I judge this after applying them on the skin, one on each arm.
It’s a shame they discontinued it in 2024 and it’s now difficult and expensive to find. As happens with designers: they quickly remove the good ones and leave the mediocre or bad ones. They say the new Nuit D’Issey Polaris takes over the role of this Pulse, but I’d doubt it. Try it and decide for yourselves. Pulse Of The Night was one of the best flankers of the 2015 Nuit d’Issey EDT, a mature nocturnal scent from Miyake that blended accords from his hits, very masculine to compete in the market. It was dark but with a charming touch, ambered and vanilla, with a leather base making it ideal for men over 30 who wanted to go out at night and leave a good impression without childish nonsense. I discovered it thanks to a video by Raul el Perfumista, one of the best reviewers in Spanish, and I loved it at first sniff. Yes, it bore a strong resemblance to Herod by Parfums de Marly, which is a niche costing 190 pounds for 75ml. This Pulse cost a third of that, for 125ml. Be careful, it’s not a cheap clone. Shiseido/Issey Miyake doesn’t make shoddy clones like others. Magnificent. If you spot it in a small perfumerie and you love charming ambered obscurities, buy it without a second thought.
Unfortunately discontinued since 2024 and difficult (and expensive) to find. As happens with designer brands: they quickly remove the good ones and leave the mediocre ones. Some say the new Polaris replaces it, but I doubt it’s the same. Listen to it and decide. Don’t even think twice.
By the way, POLARIS has nothing to do with PULSE OF THE NIGHT; this one leans more towards INTERLUDE but is more wearable. It doesn’t resemble HEROD or DIVINE VANILLE as much as the others do. Out of the hundreds of flankers I’ve tried from Issey and Nuit d’Issey, this is undoubtedly the best.
If you enjoy the dark and sensual side of fragrances, Issey Miyake’s Pulse of the Night is a fascinating journey into the most enigmatic depths. It captures that deep, mysterious night, with shadows whispering secrets. It creates a nocturnal atmosphere that invites you to immerse yourself in desire and privacy. It opens with an intense, warm incense, featuring that mystical touch of Kyara that leaves the air still and profound. Then it moves to the heart with a perfect balance between earthy amber and tonka, offering a creamy, soft sweetness that isn’t cloying. The leather is barely noticeable, very subtle, while guaiac wood, patchouli, vetiver, and sandalwood provide an elegant, velvety base. No single note dominates; everything flows with an impactful harmony. Technically, it blends oriental and woody notes into an oriental structure that respects the essence of the Nuit d’Issey collection. The development is linear, dry, and enveloping without being heavy. The projection is controlled, close but not invasive, creating a trail that impresses without shouting. It lasts for hours, adapting to the skin and leaving a persistent trail. It’s ideal for those seeking something versatile, for going out at night or on dates, leaving a subtle yet lasting impression. It is the perfect intersection between modernity and nocturnal elegance: it doesn’t need to shout to be heard.
