Descripción
Le Barbier de Tanger by MDCI Parfums is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2016, the nose behind this composition is Anne-Sophie Behaghel. The top notes unfold with bergamot, basil, lemon, tangerine orange, calone, and cardamom; the heart reveals lavender, petit grain, pineapple, galbanum, and apple; while the base notes settle on oakmoss, vetiver, woody notes, patchouli, and amber.

A beautiful scent that blends the classic fougère with a modern touch that fits perfectly into today’s perfumery. It opens with a slightly animalic, sharp citrus note with a hint of dirt, before opening up into a fresh, herbal and clean feast, reminiscent of old-fashioned barbershops. Be careful; it doesn’t smell like an old man just because of the lavender. Within minutes, calone, apple and plenty of green notes from galbanum, the freshness of basil, oakmoss, woods and patchouli emerge. Ideal for any age, serious yet approachable, masculine and nostalgic. I recommend it to anyone seeking something classic, elegant and versatile, especially for those who miss compositions like the old Chanel Pour Monsieur or YSL Pour Homme. Plus, the performance is quite good for this type of fragrance.
A lovely scent that mixes the classic fougère with a modern twist that fits perfectly nowadays. It starts with a slightly dirty, animalic touch and sharp citrus, before giving way to a party of fresh, herbal and clean notes, like in a bygone era barbershop. Watch out! It doesn’t smell like an old man just because of the lavender; within minutes, calone, apple and lots of green from galbanum, the freshness of basil, oakmoss, woody notes and patchouli come through. Suitable for any age, serious yet approachable, masculine and nostalgic. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for something classic, elegant and versatile, particularly for those who miss compositions like the old Chanel Pour Monsieur or YSL Pour Homme. Additionally, the performance is quite good for this kind of perfume.
MDCI is an off-radar house, hard to track and almost non-existent on the resale market, with an air of mystery. Le Barbier de Tanger is an elegant, luxurious fougère: soapy yet not powdery, robust and soft. Citrus, spices like rosemary, sage and lavender, wood. Fruity, fresh, clean and very green. In my opinion, it’s a great perfume that bears a striking resemblance to Egoiste Platinum. It’s almost a modernised version of the legendary Chanel, thanks to the pineapple, apple and a touch of calone – a future-proof reinterpretation. The quality and composition are up to scratch; the result feels like being wrapped in first-class shaving foam. However, if cost isn’t an issue, I’d go for a vintage Egoiste Platinum instead.
