Bleu Satin is the MDCI Aventus DNA perfume, but I believe it’s a decent-quality hybrid between Nishane’s Hacivat and Roja’s Elysium. It combines the moss and pineapple of the former with the bluer, aquatic, and woody facets of the latter. The result smells good and is of high quality, yet it doesn’t break new ground. Nowadays, I think both stand alone as excellent fragrances in that vein, with Arsénico being the best overall. This isn’t bad, but this house has better creations. It’s more masculine, super versatile, and has good performance, so there’s not much more to say given what it is. Rating: 7/10

  • Bleu Satin by MDCI (2019), a creation by Cécile Zarokian, pays homage to Gainsborough’s ‘Young Blue’, the 1770 portrait sold in 1919 for $728,000 amid protests to American magnate Henry Edwards Huntington, who gifted it to his library in San Marino. It is one of the most famous works of eighteenth-century English painting. Gainsborough, heavily influenced by Van Dyck and though he preferred landscapes, made his living from portraits; he painted Jonathan Buttall, a wealthy, confident young man with a cheerful smile and attitude evident in his gaze. The piece was created in Bath, 150 km from London, where the artist spent considerable time. On the MDCI website, it is described as a radiant, transparent, woody, spiced and fruity leather, shining like the proud youth in the painting.
