Legend by Montblanc is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men. Launched in 2011, this composition was created by Olivier Pescheux and Celine Perdriel. The top notes unfold lavender, pineapple, bergamot and lemon verbena; the heart reveals red apple, dried fruits, oakmoss, geranium, coumarin and rose; while the base notes complete the structure with tonka bean and sandalwood.

Undoubtedly, this is the quintessential signature fragrance. In 2011, Montblanc released a scent that wasn’t blue like the ones emerging at the time, but rather herbal with metallic traces and a pleasant fruity base, in the style of Egoïste Platinum, but clearly inspired by Abercrombie & Fitch’s Fierce, a success due to its simple, pleasant, masculine, and all-occasion appeal. Montblanc didn’t miss the opportunity and, almost a decade after Fierce, surprised us with Legend, exactly as I defined it: pleasant, elegant, casual, very wearable, and agreeable. The problem is that its popularity led almost every clothing store to launch their own perfumes based on that DNA, making it a familiar and less exclusive scent. Legend had good performance which has declined over time; it lasts quite a while for me, although the initial trail is high before settling to skin level. Despite being 20 years old, it still surprises how current it remains. A niche house like Parfums de Marly created Percival years ago with this scent, nuances, and better quality, sharing the same DNA, but it costs much more. An advantage of Montblanc in Spain is the accessible price. They have released several flankers and alternatives, but for me, the original is the only one, though it’s worth trying them as tastes are personal. It’s a lovely scent in a bottle with a design inspired by the brand’s feather. Versatile, pleasant, moderate performance, and unpretentious, it’s ideal for not overcomplicating daily choices, one of those you reach for easily when you don’t know what to wear, yet it won’t surprise anyone as you’ll smell like some clothing stores.
A versatile fragrance suitable for any occasion. It has a scent that people enjoy (generates compliments) and highlights the lavender. Personally, I use it for the office. As negatives, I point out the longevity (moderate to low) and the projection of 1-2 hours; afterwards, it’s only perceptible up close.
This is the fragrance I use most for everyday wear and the office. Legend smells quite synthetic to me, and I can’t quite decipher its notes. That said, it is one of the best ‘clean scent’ fragrances I know. Somewhere in my olfactory memory, I close my eyes, smell Legend, and am transported to a men’s changing room, with everyone fresh from the shower, wrapped in towels, and applying their cologne. It smells like a combination of expensive and cheap soaps, shampoos, and deodorants. Compared to other fragrances, it’s like a Coach for Men but less fruity, a Tous Intense Man but less floral, and Legend Red but less fruity. I’m not familiar with Fierce or Percival. The main drawback is longevity. Honestly, I only seek extreme longevity for evening wear: dates, clubs, parties, when I know I’ll be out for over 6 hours without a reapplication. For daily wear, I have a 5ml atomiser filled with Legend. I spray 6 or 7 times in the morning, 3 or 4 after lunch, and I feel I leave a trail all day without being annoying or overwhelming. My eyes water when I read that people over-apply +12 sprays with these ‘low-performance’ perfumes to last all day. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable and projecting the first hours must be… I have 100ml and will snap up 200ml the moment I see a deal here in Argentina, or I’ll wait for someone to travel abroad to check for better prices. Solid 6/10.
I absolutely love it! It smells clean, projects confidence, and is incredibly versatile. I’m sure it attracts compliments. The fruity lavender opening is spectacular, and it doesn’t disappoint after an hour when the floral notes settle over the tonka bean. I gifted it to my boyfriend the moment I smelled it in a sample, but I’ve already stolen it back several times. A perfect addition to a wardrobe with a charming, slightly unisex twist.
If you’re hunting for a unique scent, this isn’t for you. However, if you value quality over price and want a fragrance that exudes cleanliness and freshness, Montblanc Legend is definitely the one for you. It’s a blind buy that will please you. Who doesn’t love smelling clean? Longevity and projection are average: 5-6 hours on my skin, projecting decently for about 2 hours.
I’ve just received it; very good: clean, fresh, and fruity scent. The best notes are lavender, apple, and nuts; in the dry-down there’s a touch of tonka bean, though nothing stands out above the rest, perhaps a very slight pineapple. Smells deliciously clean. Best for use in summer and spring when it shines; in autumn or winter, it’s barely noticeable, soft and non-invasive. In the heat, it really comes alive. In those seasons, I think it’s a waste. Moderate trail and longevity (speaking of one spray on the wrist). I bought the 200ml and didn’t make a mistake; it’s an EDT. To make it last, apply on hot days, which is when you enjoy it most. UPDATE: after using it more, you need more than 15 sprays for it to be noticeable. It doesn’t have great projection, it’s not heavy, doesn’t bother anyone, and whoever smells it will love it. Smells delicious. With more than 15 sprays, it projects for about 2 hours. I recommend it highly, but keep in mind it’s for hot days and you need to apply generously without fear. I’ve really liked it; my only gripe is that it would project more if you applied more, lasts at most 2 hours, and then only close to the skin. It’s a shame it doesn’t last; it’s one of my favourites and works for almost everything. Despite liking it, I won’t repurchase due to its poor longevity and weak trail; it reminds me of CK fragrances that smell great but don’t last as long as Farsa in Europe. The price seems excessive for what it offers. Conclusion: it smells very well, it’s for daily wear or summer, but you need to apply more than 15 sprays to last at least 2 hours, and be aware that the price is excessive for what you get. If you want to feel comfortable, smell clean, rich, soft, and be liked by everyone, you’ll love it, but I repeat: go all out with the sprays.
One of my favourites. I usually try to avoid ultra-mass-market perfumes, but this one is unbeatable; in the end, the nose rules. I wouldn’t call it fresh, but it smells clean. I love it for urban or enclosed environments.
There’s an Esika called Desafiant that is almost identical to this Montblanc Legend for €20 and lasts about 6 hours on skin. The dry-down is 90% the same. It’s by Sebastian Yatra.
Fresh, clean, and super versatile: ideal for the office, sport, or school. It’s that kind of fragrance that doesn’t annoy anyone and goes well with everything.
Montblanc Legend (2011), by Olivier Pescheux and Celine Perdriel: if you’re looking for something affordable, versatile for work or school, with a clean scent that doesn’t bother anyone, this is your choice. It’s not a new fragrance; it emulates A&F Fierce but at a fraction of the cost. It doesn’t last long, but for the price, it’s worth reapplying.
Montblanc Legend EDT is an all-rounder. In Mexico, I’ll use it all year round due to the climate. It lasts between 6 and 7 hours with a moderate trail, but if applied on clothes, it’s solved. The DNA of A&F Fierce is tremendous; with better quality, I imagine it much better (Percival). At an approximate price of $45 in Mexico, the only one I know that does the job better is Versace Pour Homme, but curiously, it’s very massified. It’s a curious point: there’s the perception that Legend is massified, but I think influencers helped to de-massify it. I mean that Nautica Voyage, Versace Pour Homme, and Club de Nuit Intense (Aventus dupes) ate up the market for which it was intended. That doesn’t mean no one uses it, but I think you understand my point. Longevity: 6 hours. Price: excellent, I paid $55 for 200ml. Climate: preferable above 15°C but works for everything. Occasion: whatever you fancy. Age: between 20 and 30, I can’t think of a 15-year-old lad or a 40-year-old gentleman using it. Anyway, if someone asks for a recommendation of an all-purpose perfume that costs less than $50, tell them Versace Pour Homme and you keep Legend.
A versatile, all-rounder fragrance. It’s one of the most show-off scents in my collection, both for me and for others. It’s that scent that makes you imagine a well-dressed, masculine, clean man, that image of a man made and right. At first, it might smell like ‘sir’, but then you realise it’s not; it’s a scent very leaning towards lavender, but not too sweet, rather a lavender with a ‘metallic’ touch, very rare to explain. The opening has a fresh touch like bergamot, not a clone, and in the dry-down it feels a fruity-metallic touch, different from what a man would normally use. It works wonderfully in any climate, both for heat and night outings; I see it as more versatile than many blue fragrances like Sauvage or Dylan Blue; it’s a 4×4. It reminds me of the 2000s, when all teenagers had Fierce by Abercrombie, so if you’re from the 90s like me, it will surely ring a bell and you’ll like it. Scent: 8.5/10. Longevity: 8/10 (6-7 hours comfortably). Projection: 7/10 (2 hours good). Price: 9/10.
Woody aroma combined with fruity sparkles that turn the fragrance into a source of female compliments. It’s sophisticated, virile, and exudes infinite cleanliness and transparency. It’s sensitive and characterful, although they seem contradictory, Legend shows they can go hand in hand. For its notes, it’s designed for day and night, timeless, with excellent fixation and durability, remaining intact on the skin for long hours.
One of my favourite perfumes. It’s versatile, mostly fruity but not too sweet thanks to the lavender and wood, which makes it useful for various occasions. It is true that it’s mostly youthful, but it contains more serious ingredients; if the perfume had an age, it would be around 25 years old. Summately masculine, sweet in the base and fresh on the opening. Its only weakness is the short longevity.
Without a doubt one of my favourite fragrances. Delicious fruity aroma with a moderate trail and it’s not invasive. I enjoy wearing it at any time because I consider it very versatile, although its longevity is short, about five hours at most; I have to reapply to keep the scent.
For those who like this perfume, I recommend the new YSL, ‘MYSLF’. Although it has extra notes that differentiate it from Legend, it’s the one that comes closest. Most similar scents, like Spirit, Eau de Parfum, or Percival (which, although the same composition, differ in proportions), fail to capture that sweet freshness that Montblanc Legend has and that I love; they all seem drier to me in comparison. ‘MYSLF’ does have that note, plus it solves Montblanc’s problems: it lasts longer and stays pleasant throughout the day (Montblanc’s dry-down becomes too residual). It has extra notes reminiscent of Amouage Reflection Man that complement it very well, differentiating it but not so much that it becomes something else; truly balanced. I left that olfactory profile because Montblanc didn’t meet minimums and the others lacked that magic something, but YSL has allowed me to enjoy it in all its splendour. I’ve used half a bottle and it’s a delight, plus it lasts a long time on clothes. If there’s any Montblanc Legend enthusiast, you’ll be interested. Cheers! PS: As I know you’re looking for comparisons with Percival, I’ve done them, and the closest is Percival, which leans more towards Legend Eau de Parfum (the black bottle one).
I really like it. Fruity aroma, you can detect the moss, very clean, perhaps due to the lavender. It’s versatile; I’ve used it in the office and for casual outings. It doesn’t have much projection, but it maintains a very pleasant personal bubble; people have told me it smells very good. Longevity in my case reaches five hours.
People have only asked me what perfume I was wearing on this occasion and another. My girlfriend absolutely loved it.
Disappointing. Between 2014 and 2017 it was my signature scent; I always wore it and loved it. I’ve tried other Mont Blanc fragrances like Emblem and Exceptionnel, but I remember Legend having more longevity and projection. I’m not sure if the quality has dropped or my nose has changed, but now I can barely smell it. At first, it smells of alcohol and something citrusy, then it disappears in 30 minutes. I applied seven sprays twice a day and nothing. It only lingers close to the skin with a earthy, sweet leather note that lasts 4-5 hours. Perfect for any occasion because it barely smells at all 🤣. Total disappointment for me.
Sure to be a hit with someone. It’s a safe bet, nothing risky, but it smells great and does its job: cleanliness, order, and that personal sense of wellbeing. It’s not for clubs or competing on longevity, but I don’t think that was ever the intention. It’s ideal for work, university, the cinema, a café, or an informal date. It’s versatile, modern, and good value. The truth is, Legend only shares the name with the brand; the base notes are very typical. It won’t disgust you, but it won’t surprise you either. Longevity and projection are fair, but a reapplication at five or six hours fixes everything. If you’re looking for something with more ‘something’ at the same price, you’ll have to look elsewhere, but if you don’t want to complicate your life, Legend is a solid option.
It smells nice, but I get the impression it’s become outdated with current trends.
I bought the 30ml bottle. Wearing this cologne is the same as wearing nothing: neither fresh nor even if you bathe in it. It’s a rip-off, it’s astonishing, it smells like nothing. I don’t even know what it smells like, truly. The same thing happened to me in the shop; I thought it was because I’d smelled others before first. Anyway, I’ve just thrown my money away.
Ideal for large offices or very formal settings; avoid using it elsewhere. It’s an extremely serious and clean scent that can smell older due to the lingering lavender, plus nuts, woods, and florals that enhance that feeling. It’s for that only. It can even be quite off-putting if not worn in a spacious office. If you want something pleasant and versatile for everyday wear, try Legend in Spirit version.
Very clean and easy-going; the downside is that many deodorants nowadays smell similar. However, a great alternative is Galloway by Marly, although the price has gone through the roof.
Very good perfume, I love it and it holds its own against many more expensive ones.
Simple yet serious; the opening is citrusy and sweet, but the dry down features woods and florals that make it serious and spicy. I see it as a daily office scent or for simple outings. Girls don’t seem to like it as much as other Montblanc fragrances, but it’s cheap and smells good, so you should give it a try.
Although they say it’s fresh as summer, here in Sinaloa it makes me feel stifled; I used to wear it daily and didn’t like it, perhaps due to the heat, but for me it’s perfect in autumn/winter, especially in the evening, easy to wear and without any fuss.
Rich and average; it works well for the office, but the performance is poor: it projects no more than 30cm in 10 minutes and then sits right on the skin.
Projection is moderate to poor, the scent doesn’t stand out and smells like Old Spice deodorant; it’s not worth the price.
It’s a proper 4×4: if it were more durable it would be legendary, but in the end it strikes a fair balance and doesn’t disappoint.
Smells good but doesn’t last at all, doesn’t project anything, the sillage is low… I bought it several years ago and since then I have never bought another Montblanc fragrance (except Starwalker which I love the scent). The truth is I do not recommend buying it.
Rich scent, a mix of Montblanc Starwalker and Urbe by Natura.
I don’t feel it as fruity as advertised. It is more simple and has an 80s smell, very aromatic. I’m not saying it is bad, but it was a ‘meh’ for me. That said, in Argentina there is at least one deodorant (I don’t remember which one) that has exactly the same scent.
Incredible scent, good projection, but poor longevity. It reminds me of Fierce from Abercrombie. Well, if you are looking for a perfume for the gym or exercise, but nothing more.
A classic staple, what a delightful fragrance! Legend from Montblanc is one of those jewels where, from the first spray, you know it won’t fail. For me, it gives a vibe similar to Boss Bottled and even 9am Dive, but without being an blatant copy. And although I don’t know Fierce, I know many make the comparison, so you get the idea. What I like most is that it embodies the word ‘versatility’. Literally it works for any age, event, or season. You can use it in the office, for a casual outing, during the day or at night, and you will always look good. What is truly appreciated is that it is not one of those sweet fragrances that get tiring or feel hostile. It has a perfect balance. In its dry down, the protagonist is a very well-executed trio: the apple, which gives it a fruity and juicy touch; the lavender, which adds cleanliness and aroma; and a touch of green geranium that makes it fresh and vibrant. It is a clean, fruity mix with an elegant point that makes it irresistible. Legend completely exceeded my expectations. It is a fragrance that gives you confidence, is easy to wear, and, best of all, smells incredible. My score: 9/10, because it met everything I expected and more.
THE GOOD: An ultra-clean, ultra-masculine scent. Mega-versatile perfume: from the gym to the office. A scent that 100% of men will like. THE BAD: Poor performance. Longevity and sillage are terrible. The scent can result in being boring and flat. A smell seen a thousand times in gels, shampoos, aftershaves, and men’s deodorants. Would I recommend it? No. Its price does not justify the low performance, plus it is a scent you have probably already smelled. PS: Want to know what this perfume smells like paying a fraction of the price? Buy the Bod Man Black body spray for men. The black one smells exactly the same. They usually sell the pack of 4.
It is sweet, clean, and rich, but it doesn’t last at all. After ten minutes it’s hard to smell it and by half an hour it’s gone. I paid $60 for 50ml and feel ripped off. I’ve had it for a week; I hope it lasts longer if left for months, but I don’t think it will change. The scent is rich, clean, and super generic. It’s not for use above 30 degrees as it can become heavy. I can only speak of its opening, because that is the only thing it has; the rest does not exist.
I was looking for a fragrance for the office. The saleswoman recommended it and I loved it: exquisite, sweet but fruity, not cloying, with a hint of citrus, harmonious and non-intrusive. Perhaps it is not novel, but it is charming. I bought it without hesitation (it seemed expensive, around $150 in Argentina). I applied it to my skin. The saleswoman said if I didn’t like it I could exchange it. After half an hour I could hardly smell it and by 45 minutes it had disappeared completely. Fortunately, I was nearby and exchanged it. In my opinion it is not worth that money, but for those who like the scent, it is a good proposition.
Legend from Montblanc holds a privileged place in my collection. It balances fruity, sweet, and aromatic notes perfectly. Upon application, the lavender and citrus provide immediate freshness, while the woody and vanilla base offers a warm, cosy feel. It has herbal nuances and a fresh spicy touch that feels modern and pleasant. Sentimental value: To be honest, I like it a lot, but mostly because it has a special meaning: it was the first perfume my wife gave me. I have an affection for it that no other fragrance equals. Usage and versatility: For a long time it was my go-to. I used it for everything: dates, the office… The best part is that, despite being sweet, it’s not cloying; it is light yet characterful. Personal experience: I liked it so much I finished the bottle quickly. It is one of those scents that invite you to apply it again and again without getting tired. To sum up, it is an all-rounder fragrance, masculine, with a perfect sweet touch that will always bring back good memories.
I don’t have many words, but it is my signature scent and I’ve never reviewed something like this before. It is the ‘quintessential’ example of that unique DNA, alongside Fierce and Percival. I can’t describe it properly; go to a perfumer and try it (it’s everywhere). It has brought me many compliments and remains my favourite scent ever. It has that 2000s touch, coming from Fierce, giving it a very masculine appeal. I don’t buy perfumes to attract women, but I assure you most love it. Perhaps because it was used in shops as an air freshener and is a familiar scent, or because of that lustful era of the 2000s. Anyway, it is impressive. I haven’t smelled the original Fierce (they say it’s not worth it now), but they say Legend is sweeter and I prefer it. Regarding longevity, it’s not crazy but it is more than enough. It lasts on me and people notice, and that is sufficient. Curiously: I have a bottle I used a lot and then stored for two years. It is ‘over-macerated’, smells more powdery and better with time, plus it lasts and projects more. To sum up, I have rambled, but no extension is needed because it is a masterpiece and not just of this, but of the DNA it represents. Cheers.
