A bit cloying, I see it for teenagers. The dry-down is quite rich, leaving vanilla, sweet incense and patchouli. Suitable for winter.
Sweet and fresh at first, with a wonderful woody and vanilla dry-down. The opening can be cloying, but then it becomes addictive. Ideal for cold or crisp days and nights. Filled, they won’t be missing out.
My favourite of the Diesel range, a house that in my opinion isn’t much in designer perfumery. Fresh at first, then it sweetens, becomes woody and spicy as it dries, evolving into something more nocturnal due to the patchouli and vetiver. Everything is moderate. It lasts a good 4-5 hours with little sillage, to be honest. It’s one of the few non-niche scents that has a licorice note like the Lolita Lempickas. If you like that note, well, you know. As comparisons say, it’s a mix of Gaultier’s Ultra Male and Lempicka’s Au Masculin. Totally youthful, but a man in his 30s or 40s with a young spirit and informal clothes can wear it too. Versatile. As a scent, nothing new under the sun, but I find it better than other Diesel fragrances that are quite weak on longevity and charm.
What on earth is wrong with the current perfumery scene? They stick to the intentions. The worst part is that Diesel tries to reinvent the wheel 30 times; in the case of Only the Brave, it inevitably boils down to reusing bottles with minimal changes to sell meaningless concepts. I admit they have business merit because they are selling little things, but… gosh! It could be done better with more natural essences, as nothing is more synthetic than this line. It’s a pity because there is something interesting but poorly executed. It’s not the poor performance (four hours without projection), but that licorice note with a toasted or… ‘burnt’ touch, which is very interesting and not unpleasant (it’s not charred, mind you 😅). It appears in the second hour, and I wish they had rounded it off better with natural ingredients and a story to tell. Try it and you’ll see what I mean. Anyway, Diesel stays the same, and for now, it will only enter my collection in the form of samples and more samples of something that could have been but wasn’t. A pity… Best wishes! Starts sweet with a very pleasant fruity touch, but then vanilla takes over the show. It’s a rich fragrance, although its only flaw is longevity: half an hour of projection, and then it clings to the skin for a maximum of four hours.
