Descripción
Oud de Grand by Feel Oud is a woody floral musky fragrance designed for men and women. Launched in 2023, this composition was created by perfumers Russian Adam and Dmitry Bortnikoff. For lovers of good authentic oud, you must try it. The oud is perceptible from the start to the end, very animalic and carnal due to the sambac jasmine, although very subtle. Wow! What a thing, a 100%.
For lovers of oud, I’m not sure this composition is interesting. The base is high-quality oud, which is standard coming from them. The curious part is that the floral isn’t a mythical rose; I’d say it’s jasmine, white flowers, or perhaps lavender giving that ‘sexy’ effect. My nose isn’t clear on it. It reminds me very much of a Bortnikoff: Sir Winston. It’s natural with expected performance: 5-8 hours on skin up close, but projects for a few minutes after application. With heat or sweat, you can smell it on yourself, though it won’t reach others. And this is key: whoever pays is the one who enjoys it most. As it doesn’t project, it doesn’t cause olfactory fatigue, so when we sweat, we can smell it on ourselves for those 4-6 hours.
Feel Oud promises a lot with their Russian Adam and Bortnikoff launches, using first-class and authentic ingredients. Here, their Oud blends resinous Thai oud with a burst of jasmine. The opening is balsamic, nothing animal, thanks to that resinous character and the slightly sweet nuances of the jasmine. Although the combination isn’t as overused as others with vanilla or rose, I think the jasmine would benefit more from other partners. As it dries down, indolic nuances emerge until leaving a pure, subtle yet potent oud. Given what I expected, I hoped for something more complex and balanced. The raw materials are impeccable and it’s worth trying for the chance to smell ingredients of such high quality, even if the final result doesn’t quite convince me.
Same old story with new niche brands: oud with little else at outrageous prices. Super simple composition, woody oud without a stable smell and very carnal jasmine; both top-quality notes but the result is boring. Reminiscent of Sir Winston but without that intoxicating magic; it lacks something. Besides, the dry oud and animalic jasmine don’t blend well. Decent performance as one might expect.
