What a wonderful surprise this new creation by Miguel Matos is. In The smell of LOVE, the perfumer offers his vision of iris, blending it with slightly animalic notes, soft leather and potent spices such as cumin, achieving an effect similar to Santi Burgas in OIKB and following a path akin to Read my mind for Acompora, albeit with a slightly more contained intensity. The quality of the scent and its performance are, as always with the house and the perfumer, top-notch. The fragrance centres on a powdery, friendly iris that is reinforced by those animalic and leather notes. It has strength and depth, and the spices help it shine throughout. I was particularly struck at one point during the first dry-down, around 15-20 minutes in, where a quite prominent patchouli is noticeable, but it lasts only a few minutes before returning the spotlight to the iris. The perfume is called The smell of LOVE and I could not agree more with the name; TSOL has completely won me over.
