No, no, no. For me, it’s a resounding no. I love perfumes with rich leather; I understand the idea: androgynous, muted leather, dusty. At first, I thought, ‘mmm, delicious, warm, deep’, but an hour later, I started checking to see if I’d stepped in dog poo. Ah, no, it’s the perfume. Two hours in, it stinks as if a cat had marked me. I wanted to get home as soon as possible. Now I’m washing my clothes and showering because I think a dog or something must have peed on me. Anyway, it smells like wet leather shoes stepped on by a cat and then a dog, with a crushed violet petal.

Good performance and scent; sometimes reminiscent of Ch Men Privé but with different tones on the skin and a bit dusty; it’s unusual but smells very well…

Once I tried the realistic Falcon Leather by Matiere Premiere, I concluded that Animalique is its older sibling, with a very subtle wink to CH’s 212. It’s lovely and affectionate, bearing that Byredo imprint from Bibliothèque or Eyes Closed but slightly more cherry-toned, adding a funny smoky touch and, sometimes, a hint of freshly baked bread. It’s not for me, but if you’re looking for something warm, like fur and soft leather, give it a try.

At first, it smells strong, but then it softens on the skin and is a treat; very structured, dusty, and with that distinctive touch of violet. It’s already one of my favourites, lasting about five hours with a noticeable trail.
