  This Miguel Matos perfume begins with an explosion of colours: white, black, pink, purple and yellow. It is an olfactory fantasy that takes you to childhood dreams and nightmares, to parallel worlds populated by characters like Bitelchús, the Mad Hatter or Jack Skeleton. Although its name, ‘Tar’, means pitch, it does not smell of freshly tarmac roads; rather, it is a staircase into an imaginary realm of melancholic, gothic characters and situations with innocent sensitivity. The first thing you notice is a slap of star anise that gives way to sweet licorice, like that in black bar sweets, with a touch of pineapple and citrus for a spark. Then come soft floral notes, like the scent of a lavender field reaching you on the breeze. Next enters the hard core of Tar: smoky and tobacco notes that create that typical fairy-tale mist. Caramel and real tonka bean highlight the licorice and soften the nuances, because after all, Tar is a scary story for children. It is extremely original, a challenging composition yet with an aroma for everyone, which will attract the attention of the non-expert for how well and differently it smells. It is another perfume by Matos that in a perfect world would be a best-seller. Its balance between smoky, sweet and spicy makes it a gothic gourmand. And its performance is brutal: well above average. Here, the word ‘reapply’ does not exist. Imaginative, fanciful, melancholic, adventurous and sentimental, this perfume is the signature of Eduardo Manostijeras. A great creation for which only congratulations are due to its perfumer.
