Torreja Sacra evokes torrijas, that Spanish winter dessert, but here it’s made very wearable. On skin, it smells of spiced nuts, with a biscuit-like gourmand and the benzoin that gives it balsamic energy. At the base, a honeyed and milky brushstroke ties everything together. With these notes, one might expect a dense and cloying sweetness, but it’s not like that. It’s a gourmand with moderate sweetness and freshness, well-reined. Perfect for any semi-formal or leisure occasion. Performance is correct: 7-8 hours on skin, projects a metre for the first hour, then stays rich close to the skin. I wouldn’t wear it in much heat to avoid losing its qualities. It’s a warm, pleasant, elegant gourmand with a touch of piquancy or seduction. It might spark curiosity and have people ask what you’re wearing. Another great job by NBITOR, continuing to surprise with niche originality. As always, test niche on skin before buying; don’t rely solely on the dry-down or notes.
Another gem from NBITOR by Miguel Matos. Like Jomasa, it opens with delicious torrijas: sweet bread, dairy, and almond, but with the touch of wine that’s been passed to the cook. These are very boozy torrijas, with that fruity, alcoholic, and bitter wine that’s very noticeable. On skin, it lasts strongly for an hour, then another half-hour. As the sweet and gourmand notes fade (without being heavy, as another reviewer said), a lasting woody base emerges. What I sense most is an earthy patchouli with an oud that adds darkness. The patchouli isn’t pure; it carries spices, nuts, and benzoin that amber it. It’s a well-rounded perfume I’ll add to my collection as soon as I can. One of the best I’ve tried recently.
