At first, it gave me a bit of a shock, but now I see a strange charm in it. Smells like a liar, like grilled figs. Fruity, dark, dusty like hay, rough yet juicy. A delightful chimera.
As a good girl from Burgos, I had to try it. What a pity it’s so exclusive and hard to get hold of.

In the perfume universe, where each scent tells a story, Babieca is a masterpiece that transcends time and space. Created by Miguel Matos, this elixir takes you on an epic journey through the Reconquista, with knights and legendary steeds. From the very first moment, it envelops you in a dance of scents that awakens the senses. The top notes, with raspberry, saffron, aldehydes and cade, unfold like battle standards, announcing a unique experience. What makes Babieca unique is its evolution on the skin. At first, it’s a smoky and animal explosion, like in ancient battles, but over time the smoke softens and reveals layers of leather, musk, vanilla and caramel. This transformation is its soul: bold and challenging at the start, refined and provocative at the end. In its heart, osmanthus, tobacco, hay and cypriol dance in harmony, transporting you to golden meadows. There it reveals its true nature: bold, intrepid and ethereal. Before reviewing, a mandatory mention to The Perfumery Barcelona’s idea: representing Spanish culture and history. A super interesting premise, and they deliver hands down. It’s an experience and a real treat. In this case, Babieca is based on El Cid, his historic mare from the Reconquista. It’s astonishing how it recreates those moments with a smoky character, dry herbal touches, dark woods… and then suddenly, a sweet, gourmand note that makes it interesting and compels you to smell it again. It’s difficult to wear, but as an aromatic construction and evocative work, it’s review-worthy and definitely worth trying. Cheers!
In two words: vomitous and nauseating. The sting of saffron is unbearable. Putrid. One of the worst things I’ve ever smelled. It makes me retch just by smelling it.
