Perfumes de Annick Menardo

She has been described as “dark” for her fondness for burnt aromas, from Lolita Lempicka’s liquorice to the tarry tea in Bulgari Black. But she could just as easily be seen in green or mauve—anise and heliotrope are her favourite notes—or dressed in red, like her diabolical Hypnotic Poison, whose bottle in the shape of an apple evokes both the forbidden fruit and the tree of knowledge. Could the fairies of Grasse, just fluttering their wings away from her native Cannes, have hovered over her cradle? Annick Ménardo has a musical sense of chords, the melody of a composition. She cultivated that gift at ISIPCA, the international school of perfumery, cosmetics and food aromas based in Versailles, where she took classes from Isabelle Doyen, and afterwards at Créations Aromatiques (now Symrise) with her mentor Michel Almairac. In an industry that seeks originality while also requiring perfumers to listen to the demands of their clients, she composes her fragrances intuitively and without compromise, for those who know how to listen.
