Boss Bottled Elixir by Hugo Boss is a spicy oriental fragrance for men. Launched in 2023, this composition was created by Annick Menardo and Suzy Le Helley. The top notes reveal incense and cardamom; the heart unfolds patchouli and vetiver; while the base notes complete the structure with labdanum and cedar.

  • What a surprise Boss has given me with this absolute smash of a fragrance in terms of scent and quality. I’ve lost interest in any of the brand’s launches for years, but a series of coincidences led me to try this perfume and fall in love with it. Here, the star is a fine, resinous incense present throughout, perfectly blended with vetiver, cedar, patchouli… creating at times the sensation of a certain ‘false freshness’. Obviously, this isn’t an original perfume; these notes have been mixed countless times before, but this time they are configured with great taste, to the extent that Bottled Elixir could perfectly be a perfume from the first decade of this new century: elegant, masculine, and mysterious. In fact, at some point during its dry down, it reminds me quite a bit of the longed-for Givenchy Play Intense; does anyone else find this? Personally, I don’t find it an excessively commercial fragrance at all; it leans more towards dark/mysterious, even with the sweet note, offering a smoky, highly addictive aroma. Versatility? Only for nights. Good longevity, good projection. Edit: I absolutely don’t understand the comparison with the tiresome Sauvage Elixir I smell twenty times on every street, nor with whatever from Mercadona; if anything, it might recall a Zadig & Voltaire This Is Him with a dash of patchouli.

  • I don’t own it and I like it; though I’m not sure if I’ll ever buy it as there are other priorities on my list, and generally, I don’t usually like the incense note when it’s stronger than what the magnificent Loewe 7 Cobalt already offers. What I can say is that what I like most about it is the most subtle part: The Dry Down. It has a final development that reminds me slightly of the sweet oud offered by Dior Homme Parfum, and that’s what I love. The opening is rich, though a bit scandalous with so much incense. Being a good fragrance throughout its development, the ending is the best part.

I’m probably going against the grain, but to be honest, this seems to be one of the most dreadful fragrances I’ve tried in quite some time. It’s synthetically and chemically overwhelming, with an acidic and bitter aftertaste that becomes very unpleasant and unbearable. I’m surprised it’s by Annick Menardo, considering Hugo Boss Bottled, Jaipur, Xeryus Rouge, Lolita Lempicka, Kokorico, Azzaro Visit, Attitude, Style, and Play are among the best the perfumer has produced. On the other hand, I don’t detect any difference from Hugo Boss Bottled Parfum. I also feel it’s an attempt at Prada L’Homme Intense, but done badly. It’s really very potent and leaves an impression on the skin even after washing with soap. In my opinion, Hugo Boss Bottled Intense remains the best perfume from Hugo Boss.

After some maceration time, and being from one of the early batches, it lasts like a beast until the next day; I’m still smelling it. Absolutely brutal. That said, it’s one of the few that hasn’t garnered many compliments, but I couldn’t care less; it’s definitely one of my favourites and deserves to be a proper elixir.

I fully agree with @Zenof’s review a little further down regarding how it resembles Givenchy Play Intense once dried down, especially when compared to This Is Him. It’s a style of sweetness, vanilla, and resins that may not be fashionable, but it’s a real treat. The opening can briefly approach Sauvage Elixir, but that’s not the intention. Personally, I own several fragrances in this style, though few have the quality twists of this one, especially at such a good price. A definite 10.

I bought it a month ago and I have no regrets. It is a scent that not everyone will like due to the very marked incense opening, which then evolves into an amber-woody-resinous dry down. It is for a personality with character, totally different from the other Boss Bottleds. It lasts more than 12 hours on skin, projecting for the first 4 or 5. It is not a beast mode but the performance is very good. On clothes it lasts a long time; you must wash the garment or it will not come out. I use it at night and we are just in winter, so it works very well. I also tried it in the office during the day but it is very strong, so I do not recommend it in those cases. To me, it seems to have a note of Coca-Cola or lollipop that stands out quite a bit when it dries; I do not dislike it but it is odd. Conclusion: if you are hesitating, keep in mind that it is not for receiving compliments; the price is a bit expensive in my country (Argentina), and as you use it more, you will like it more, so do not buy blindly. In summary, it is a fantastic fragrance but not for everyone.

  • I have a large perfume shop two streets away and I stop by to try them when I return from work. I apply quite a bit and let it settle for a few hours to be sure. This has saved me a lot of money, because 80% of the perfumes I like at first do not convince me once they dry. With Boss Bottled Elixir the opposite happened: I tried it once on my wrist and once it dried, it seemed better to me. I returned one Saturday morning, took a vial to the neck (with the manager’s permission) and it lasted almost 9 hours. With a gust of wind I felt that scent of incense and wood again with intensity. I returned to the shop; since there were no 100 ml bottles left and the price difference was not worth it for the 50 ml, I took a complimentary sample. I have used it all week and, although it is expensive in Argentina, I am convinced to pay. It is a fragrance that makes you feel as though you are wearing a style statement. It has everything a good men’s perfume should have: it is intense but not suffocating, mature but not outdated, and above all sophisticated, with that dark and mysterious touch that makes it irresistible. Three well-placed sprays last all day. It smells like entering an elegant room full of dark wood and leather, mixed with a slightly sweet and warm liqueur. The incense lasts the life of the perfume and when it dries, as cedar and patchouli appear, at times it seems like chocolate liqueur. It is perfect for cold weather and the night. It is not for everyone; you must like it; do not buy blindly. It does not seek to impress with shouts, but with whispers. It is for those who want to stand out without seeming to try. In summary, Boss Bottled Elixir smells like modern elegance: neither too young nor outdated, with the right balance between classic and contemporary. Definitely my next purchase. I loved it.

It seems like a good fragrance, but it is not for everyone’s taste, specifically due to the incense. Although it is subtle, it is noticeable and not everyone likes it. Once it dries, that low note leaves a very pleasant, soft sweetness. It is an elegant perfume, although its trail is a bit heavy and lasts about 8 to 9 hours. Recommended.

  • Hugo Boss Bottled is a top-tier fragrance: robust, dense, strong and unique. The base is pure wood that conveys security and calm. The trail has a warm touch that accompanies the wearer. But beware; it is not for everyone; you must know how to handle it. The opening is the tricky part: it is very penetrating, a pure incense that can fill a house if not applied with care, or you may seem to be in a procession. For me, it lacks a touch more sensual or curious to make people stick around. That said, it is a great perfume.

  • It is very similar to Boss Bottled EDP. Tonnes of wood with a slightly green dry-down. If you don’t like the EDP, you certainly won’t like this one. Recommended for men over 40. Strong, very strong. I didn’t like it.

  • I love it. A designer scent that is nothing simple yet easy to please. Cardamom, woods, a touch of sweet vanilla, incense in the heart, and a resinous base. A very wearable proposal but with character and a different personality. I didn’t expect to like it so much. It’s nothing risky, but it has a distinctive point. Formal in character, nocturnal, and for cold days. It performs very well, more than 6/7 hours on skin with moderate projection, and an extremely competitive price. Easy to acquire. I love using it. I’d say it pivots extraordinarily, between niche and commercial, between simple and risky. In the middle ground lies the virtue of this Boss Bottled Elixir.

  • It’s an intense incense bomb, but when it dries down it’s a delight that women love. Watch out… it suits men aged 40 and over, NOT for 20 and 30-year-olds.

  • A bomb of labdanum from start to finish. A drop of thick, black amber resin, bottled. Without much perceptible evolution, a bit of cardamom is perceived in the opening, but the labdanum swallows EVERYTHING. Warm, resinous, amber, sweet, and balsamic aroma. Unique, elegant, and original. A MUST in any collection but not for everyone. Longevity and projection are beastly: you smell it and others do for 12 or 14 hours.

  • Pabloquinte

Far from what HB has us accustomed to in their commercials, you must try it on skin and clothes because for me the dry-down is the best; it lasts days on clothes. It is elegant of a very high standard. The opening feels very incensey, which doesn’t particularly catch my eye, but the evolution is a marvel: elegance, elegance, and more elegance. Very well done on the changes HB has shown with these alternatives.

  • It starts with very strong incense, but after an hour it sweetens without the incense disappearing, which stays throughout the wear. After six hours, it turns into a cedar bomb that fits with the sweetness of a very strong vanilla and the incense. Longevity: 12 hours. Projection: 1.60-1.90. Scent: 10/10. They say it’s mature, but I see it as suitable for all ages; I use it for special occasions when I was a 15-year-old lad.

  • It reminded me of Bentley. It lasts 9 hours and persists. I put it on at 9 and by 18, watching TV, I could feel with my arm at 30cm that it was still releasing fragrance. After three hours it changed and now it smells clean, midway to wood; at first I didn’t like it because it was very amber/warm and synthetic. It lasted more than 12 hours.

  • What a delight! It smells very similar to Fan di Fendi Homme Assoluto, which was my signature scent for a while. The cardamom and incense are undoubtedly the stars. The longevity is phenomenal and the projection is excellent.

  • It’s a niche scent in a designer bottle. Recently I bought Royal Tobacco by Amouage, and upon spraying it, it reminded me of this; it shares the same DNA, mind you, it’s not 100% identical, but it’s the same vibe. The longevity and projection are beastly, 10 out of 10, well above average. I won’t read out the notes like others do, but it is super elegant, dark, and not for every occasion. Ideal for winter and cold days.

  • I absolutely love it, that’s how simple it is. At first, it took me by surprise, but once it dries down, it becomes addictive. It smells of cardamom and incense, and that incense is another world entirely; it’s ideal for perfuming the house. It’s intense, long-lasting, dark, and substantial; truly masculine, without those trendy unisex vibes. Neither too formal nor sporty, it’s perfect for a winter wedding in a suit, but if you’re out in a tracksuit on the street, it’s a cognitive dissonance, no matter how expensive the tracksuit is. Only for cold days; in the heat, it smells like an unpleasant overpowering blast, so a spritz on the nape is better. The longevity is extreme, lasting until you shower; on clothes, it might need a couple of washes. The trail is moderate; you don’t fill the room, but it’s easily noticeable from a metre and a half for a few hours. I adore it, although it’s not cheap (€50 for 50ml). I’ll be buying it again, for autumn/winter and spring nights it’s spectacular. It doesn’t garner many compliments, but people do ask about it.

BOSS BOTTLED ELIXIR HUGO BOSS: There are fragrances that play in this league like Dior Sauvage Elixir, Asad by Lattafa or Midnight Oud by Ard Al Zaafaran; they don’t smell exactly the same, but I find it bears a strong resemblance to Sauvage Elixir. Its evolution is changeable and there it takes its own path, which I find fabulous. The difference is that it becomes sweeter, more wearable and geared towards fresh and cold climates, always formal, nocturnal and somewhat adult. It’s refined, emanating luxury and good taste, with magnificent performance. A dark, refined, elegant and adult proposal; I’d call it a ‘socialite’ fragrance for events or gatherings where class is needed. It’s a well-made perfume, where the Hugo Boss name is carried with pride. It’s a class and status perfume, for those seeking superior aromas. Note: If you already have Sauvage Elixir or Asad by Lattafa, I would skip this. Scent: 9. Performance: Outstanding, projects well (a bit more than 2 hours). Longevity: 8 hours. Recommended.

  • I tried it today and it reminded me 70% of Andy Tower’s Desert Air, balsamic and rich incense. A niche bottled in designer.

  • Very woody aroma. I find it nothing like Sauvage Elixir; that one is very warm with sweet lavender, whereas in Boss the lavender doesn’t even appear. Dark woods, lots of them. Very stately, adult, hard. In that sense, Sauvage is a thousand times more versatile. It has nothing to do with the classic EDT, just the name. I wrote this regarding its longevity: I applied it Saturday afternoon and today, Wednesday morning, if I trace it on skin I still feel a very faint trail. Never happened to me with another perfume, not even with Kenzo Homme. Impressive.

  • Candrezfernandez

Delicious perfume for men over 30. Do not buy blind; it’s elegant, powerful and with a seductive incense. A niche in a designer bottle.

  • amunoz1975

Ufff, a bomb! This truly is an elixir that lives up to its name. I bought it blind and only sprayed once on each wrist, and the scent is quite strong but incredible. Not recommended for children as they will be harassed by it; be careful with sprays and in enclosed spaces.

  • Smells like that dark incense from 90s designer perfumes, when formulas were nuclear bombs and people wore the same scent for years. If you smelled it as a child or on an older, wealthy woman, this is it. It’s very unisex because incense with cardamom is the note you need in your collection. If you want something similar but less coarse, without that spicy cardamom touch, something fresher, sweeter and earthier, go for Absolu; the leather and patchouli give it light, while the myrrh smokes everything out. Edit: After wearing it for a while, it bears a strong resemblance to Sauvage Elixir with that sexy, dark cardamom, and as it dries down, the Absolu leaves patchouli which reminds me a lot of Sauvage EDT or Parfum. I own all four and I know what I’m talking about.

  • When I search for the word ‘elixir’, this bottle should always be the answer… It’s a sweet, woody and seductive bomb, a men’s perfume for special occasions.

  • If asked for an incensed perfume, this would be my recommendation. The incense is clearly noticeable for over 10 hours, leaving an intense and lasting aura. It’s a must-have, although its strength can overwhelm some noses. I find it a delight, perfect for showing off at a classy, elegant event. It can also be worn simply because you like it; a perfume must please the wearer first. It might steal glances, as it conveys refined, mature masculinity. I recommend it to men over 30 and in cold climates, where its character really shines.

  • Boss Bottled Elixir is the attempt to give eternity to an already worn-out classic. Dark, dense, spiced to the point of being cloying; pepper and cardamomo in a metallic shout over a sweet amber that threatens to devour it all. Masculine, yes, but in a forced way, like a tight suit. Its longevity impresses and its projection is punchy. However, where some will smell power, others will find fatigue: an aromatic wall without nuances that crushes more than it seduces. A flanker designed to shout ‘luxury’ but that sometimes borders on vulgar. Ideal if you seek absolute presence; unbearable if you want subtlety. Boss Bottled died young; this Elixir is its made-up ghost.

  • Elixir is a ghost: it’s the ghost that inside a bottle of Marly or Kilian everyone would adore as an icon of men’s perfumery, but being in a Boss bottle… less snobbery and, above all, less ghosts is what we need in perfumery.

  • Smells like a creamy incense, type frankincense, with a vanilla touch and something chocolatey at the base, perhaps due to the patchouli, although what dominates is that grain incense, the frankincense olíbano.

  • Perhaps the perfume Will wore in the film ‘I Am Legend’. Smells dark and ‘niche’, as people like to call scents that step outside the common and mass taste. 8.5/10.

  • Top fragrance, but not for everyone; if you’re looking for something standard and friendly, this isn’t your scene. It’s very woody, spicy, earthy, resinous with an amber base. Ideal for the night, with great projection and longevity; I wore it and could still smell it the next day. Very masculine and characterful. I tried it alongside Boss Bottled Absolu and Boss The Scent Elixir, and all three are hits by Hugo Boss. BBE and Absolu go down the same path, although the latter is more smoky and less woody. Elixir is another story: less dark, perhaps more wearable, but with a very own aroma. Highly recommended, but don’t buy blindly because they have personality and that doesn’t suit everyone.

  • Surprised. BOSS scents usually don’t last long. Summary: for those who know me and understand, it’s an Air from the Moroccan desert but with less dense sand.

  • Taxi driver

A different vibe from designer perfumery. It’s dark, dry, woody, and above all the incense which is noticeable all the time. I wear it on special occasions and in the cold. Be careful with the sprays because it’s nuclear. I still can’t find much similarity to Savage Elixir, although they share notes; I prefer Savage, more wearable and mainstream, but this scent is fascinating. The opening of BBE is complicated, the wonderful part is from the first hour onwards.

  • The first time I tried this luxury at a duty-free in Atlanta airport, USA, it was love at first sight. It’s fascinating, overwhelming, and awakens the instincts well from the first spray. It smells like a millionaire businessman, intelligent, unafraid of challenges, and fond of luxury. In my collection of over 70 perfumes, it’s my favourite, my top 3 with the most compliments. I haven’t finished the bottle yet and already want two more. Cheers!

  • BPerfumero

The best of Boss. I’ve always liked Bottled, but it lacked projection and longevity; this elixir is a bomb. Woody, resinous with that dark incense that makes it very special and different, perfect for the night.
