  I’ve just received a sample of Encre Indigo and I didn’t like it. First, I like Encre Noir, but only when I’m in a good mood, because it has a sharp note that makes me alert and uneasy. That medicinal and clinical touch is what they have in common. But I don’t find anything in Indigo that I like about Noir. The opening displeased me: the blend of bergamot, pepper and juniper smells worse than sticking my nose in a bottle of disinfectant. I could have heard gin tonic! Fortunately, it passes quickly and reaches its best phase. Then the tea appears, of course, with the bergamot already softer. It’s like smelling a cup of Earl Grey on its own, without sugar. That’s how it stays for most of the time. Gradually it fades and the sour vetiver comes out. Perhaps by association, it now smells to me like a tea bag I left forgotten in a glass and got a bit mouldy. And that’s it. It fades away slowly, without any notable power. It lingers close to the skin and whispers ‘I’m still here’ in bursts, like a cup of tea on the table while we do other things. If Menardo’s idea was to offer the enjoyment of a good Earl Grey, he’s succeeded. But, so rarely the case, it’s not my cup of tea.

  It has the most repulsive opening I’ve ever smelled. It smells like that paste they put in your mouth at the dentist. If you’re going to try it, beware of this detail; it’s its weak point.

  A year and a half since its launch and I still can’t find it in any perfumerie in Spain… what marketing geniuses at Lalique 😂
