  Neither here nor there. I was eager to try it following the collaboration between Rajesh Balkrishnan and Dimitry Bortnikov (this is already their third project together). How does Scheherazade fare? A juicy, intense bergamot opens the door before yielding to the star: black currants, which dominate the entire composition. There’s a hint of cheapness, all sitting on a woody base with sandalwood. With little development and modest performance, it’s unisex but leans masculine and versatile. I did try it, but unless you are a fanatic for black currants and it’s your favourite note, this offering is just average. It doesn’t smell bad or lack quality, but it doesn’t stand out, lacks purpose, and leaves an uncomfortable feeling given its $350 price tag. I didn’t like it enough to wear it, nor does it even make the brand’s top 10. If I had access to the entire Bortnikoff line for daily wear, I would hardly use Scheherazade. If Santa Sangre was ‘acceptable’, this feels very weak. Without a doubt, its best work to date remains Sayat Nova.

  I agree with the previous reviewer; it smells very simple and fails to evoke any emotion. If anyone actually detects the OUD, let me know. It simply doesn’t justify its price.
