I just received a sample. From the first spray to 30 minutes, it smells like A*Men with an intense coffee aroma mixed with something milky. Then it softens and something resembling suede or a belt strap emerges. The positives: what I hated most about the classic, that first spray that turns people off, does not happen here. It is a soft option with good trail and excellent projection, with a very seductive added aroma.
The sample arrived and I tried it straight away. At first, it smells like A*men with that intense coffee note and something milky, but then it settles into a suede scent, reminiscent of a belt strap. The good thing is it doesn’t turn people off like the original A*men spray; it’s soft, has a lovely trail, projects well, and has a very seductive touch.
I use it a lot. I managed to get two 100ml bottles, even though it is a limited edition. It has a leather note, synthetic but pleasant. At first, lavender and bergamot, less intense than A*Men but rich. Patchouli, caramel, and coffee stand out. Base of vanilla, musk, and leather. A good alternative to the classic. Projection and longevity are superior: more than 12 hours on my skin. The first application may be off-putting; wait a few minutes and it will become interesting. Remember that every skin is different. Warm regards from Argentina.
I use it a lot. I managed to get two 100ml bottles, even though it is a limited edition. It has a leather note, synthetic but pleasant (not the one from Carolina Herrera’s CH). Projection and longevity are superior: more than 12 hours on my skin. The first application may be off-putting; wait a few minutes and it will become interesting. This Pure Leather is the version most similar to its mother, A*Men, but with slight variations. The opening is softer and more wearable than the original; the intense burnt caramel scent fades, and you notice the mint and bergamot before giving way to patchouli, coffee, honey, and vanilla. The leather feels different, like a synthetic or chemical jacket or belt. According to Mugler, they aged the fragrance on vegetable leather scraps. It is a weak note at first but gains presence in the dry-down. It is easier to wear than the original because it doesn’t turn people off initially, so it suits the office or daily wear. Lasts about 12 hours on me with good projection, without being as intrusive as its older sister.
Exquisite aroma, a jewel in perfumery. Intense, delicious, long-lasting, and warm. It is ideal for very cold winters like the one we are having now. I recommend it 100%; you won’t regret getting one.
This fragrance blends contradictory notes; it revolves around bitterness, something tar-like, slightly sweet, with a touch of mint. It doesn’t isolate on the skin, and I suspect that ‘leather’ smells more like plastic, rubber, or rubber than real leather, which disappoints me. If you were looking for the milky, caramelised sensation of the original, you won’t find it here; it smells bitter and mentholated, similar to Pure Wood but more intense. It feels very synthetic. Lasted 10 hours on me (6 hours of trail, 4 hours of sillage). Ideal for cold climates and those over 30. Do not buy blindly if you love leather or sweetness, as you won’t notice them well and might be disappointed.
It’s a blend of contradictory notes that, like its sister Pure Wood, leans towards bitter, tar-like, and slightly sweet with a hint of mint. I can’t detect the individual notes; rather than notes, it smells bitter and mentholated. The skin note isn’t noticeable, and the leather seems to have hints of plastic, rubber, or tyre, which makes no sense. The leather is just leather, full stop. If you were expecting the sweet and milky sensation of the original A*men, you won’t find it here; this is bitter, mentholated, and very synthetic. It lasted about 10 hours: 6 hours of trail and 4 on the skin. Ideal for cooler climates and people aged 30 and above. I wouldn’t recommend it blindly because it doesn’t smell notably of leather or sweetness, and you might be disappointed.
I disagree with user ‘arp’. The key point is that pH varies on every skin: on mine, the leather is unmistakable, though it doesn’t sound natural but rather synthetic. It manages to maintain the sweetness of classic A*Men with a perfect, fine balance, offering good trail and longevity. My advice: always test before buying, as the price isn’t cheap and it may overwhelm some.
I share the same opinion as ‘Monti’: it’s a notable leather but of the rubber type, like a belt strap or plasticised leather. I see it very much in tune with Mugler’s futuristic concept. It’s a blend between sweet and bitter.
I use it and must say it’s magnificent, elegant, and unique, solely for gourmand noses. It’s very exquisite, but not for everyday wear; with moderate applications, it stands out better in afternoons and evenings, looking gorgeous. The trail lasts forever; it surely has some A*Men DNA, but it changes quickly to leather notes without a doubt. Excellent work.
Hello, I have a 100ml Pure Cuir with 85ml to swap. It’s in excellent condition, with the box. I’m looking for Allure by Chanel, Guerlain, or Van Cleef. [email protected] I’m from Salta, Argentina. Thanks.
Les Parfums de Cuir for men, or Pure Leather, is basically an A*Men with a very strange synthetic leather. It’s presented in a futuristic way, so rare I couldn’t digest it or recommend it blindly as I did. The performance is extremely high; that note of burnt rubber or tyre covers the rest (which is regular A*Men). Be careful, it also stains clothes. Jorge Elizalde, Veracruz, Mexico.
A*Men Pure Leather is an oriental-leather blend. At first, it smells sweet and chocolatey, typical of the house, but after 10 minutes, a smoky touch emerges trying to mimic leather. Then it stays the same until it fades. It lasted about 8 hours and seemed ideal for cold climates. The scent isn’t bad, but frankly, it’s not something I’d like to wear. Of all the A*Men versions, this is the one I liked the least; there was definitely no love.
A*Men Pure Leather is an oriental leather fragrance. The opening has the chocolatey and sweet style typical of the line, but after 10 minutes, a smoky note emerges that simulates leather. After that, there are no substantial changes; it smells the same until it disappears. Lasted 8 hours on me. Given its style, I felt it appropriate for fresh or cold climates. The aroma is not bad, but definitely not something I would like to smell. Of all the A*Men versions, it is the one I have liked the least; there was no love.
At first, it has a slight ‘feminine’ hint. From the first whiff, it feels sweet, with something floral, powdery, and rubbery, like violets or iris. Without knowing the pyramid, I thought of that. The Mugler DNA is noticeable throughout the development. Once the pyramid is known, of course, the sweetness comes from the caramel along with a characterful patchouli. That extra point isn’t fresh, never is, but bright; it fades as it dries to become warmer and reveal that ‘supposed’ leather nuance, slightly tarred and plastic-like. It’s nothing strong, in fact, I struggle to smell leather in general, and here even more so; it’s by elimination. What I do notice is that the last hours are heavier and warmer. It has very good performance.
I’ve had this fragrance for a while, which is no longer easy to find in MX, and today I finally tried it. It opens with a strong smell of burnt rubber over the traditional A*Men base. It’s sweet due to the caramel and honey notes, with a medium earthy touch from the patchouli. I went for a walk at noon in the sun with a face mask, and I could still smell that sweet scent mixed with leather. I’m undecided: I don’t know if I like it or not. For me, it smells very different from everything current.
This perfume is almost identical to the classic A*Men, but with a very marked overdose of leather. It’s a hard leather, almost like new rubber. It has good trail and longevity, but its evolution is linear and hardly noticeable. I bought it to complete the A*Men collection; although it’s very well made, it’s not one of my favourites in the line.
Here we have the crown jewel of the A*Men collection. This Pure Leather is a special edition by Mugler to celebrate 20 years of Angel and the birth of the house. Angel-Men also joined the party with this Pure Leather, as the 2012 regular launch was the refreshing Pure Shot. Although it never gained huge popularity, it is polarising: many say it’s just A*Men with leather added. And they’re right; the original DNA is there, but that leather accord changes everything. At first, it seems odd: A*Men bathed in leather, one of the most difficult accords? But the combination is superb. It smells sweet, almost gourmand, but the rough, dry, animalistic leather gives it balance. Thanks to superior quality, it avoids that typical annoying synthetic leather. Jacques Huclier hits the competition out of the park again. It’s the most beastly A*Men of all, better than Pure Tonka or the original. It projects and lasts a treat, over 12 hours on my difficult skin. It’s the dark brother of Pure Malt, but much louder. A genuine marvel.
We are facing the big sleeper of the A*Men collection. This Pure Leather is a special 20th-anniversary edition of Angel. It never had much popularity and is polarising, but in my opinion, it turned out superb. It smells sweet and touches on gourmand, but the rough, dry leather gives it balance and personality. It is a leather with animal nuances, but the gourmand elements make it tolerable. The quality is superior to most designers; it doesn’t smell synthetic or unpleasant. It is the most ‘beastly’ A*Men I have tried: it projects and lasts a treat, more than 12 hours on my skin. It is like the dark brother of Pure Malt, but noisier. A true marvel.
To me, this is classic A*men mixed with leather to make it heavier and stronger. It’s sweeter, more leathery, and more intense than the original. I wouldn’t wear it regularly if you already have the normal A*men, because this is a step up in intensity.
For me, this is the classic A*Men by Mugler with a leather twist that makes it heavier, more intense, and distinctly leathery. As it’s sweeter, richer, and more potent, I wouldn’t wear it at all if I already own the original without leather.
