Acqua di Giò Profumo by Giorgio Armani is an aromatic aquatic fragrance for men. Launched in 2015, this composition was created by perfumer Alberto Morillas. It is a beast. Potent, long-lasting, dense, dark, complex, and Mediterranean. It could be the fragrance of a Greek god or an Etruscan deity; a dark, murky, and dangerous god. At first, it results in being very woody with exquisite citrus. It includes a spicy note that is the house mark of Armani (it must be incense). It is an aggressive spice that makes itself felt, but shortly after applying it stabilises and gives way to a dark aquatic accord: they would not be fresh, clear waters, but a mysterious and deep sea. It is a night fragrance, for a strong man, impassive, somewhat rough, a Mediterranean Bogart. It denotes seduction and intimidation. Perhaps both. It is a fragrance that forces you to be up to its standard, something very complicated. It is not for daily or daytime wear, not for anyone. One must know how to carry it. A work of art by Alberto Morillas.
After the infinite, unnecessary, and redundant launches by Armani in recent years, this gentleman STILL REMAINS THE KING. It looks like his life will be very long. P.S. Every new Acqua di Giò launch makes this discontinued flanker a perfume much, much better. The more they try to make you forget it, the more and more you miss it. I am yours forever.
Profumo is my first designer fragrance; I bought it blind the same year it was discontinued and on offer online. It is from the last batches, has no magnetic cap, and no silver letters, and despite that, it is a great perfume. I cannot identify specific notes, but it is a very masculine and serious aroma, very versatile: ideal for summer nights due to the marine notes, but also for wearing with a suit, perfect for dates. The last time I used it (last week), it had a decent duration: four sprays on the skin caused a headache for the first two hours, and by the sixth hour I could still perceive bursts while walking. Perhaps this is because I have let it rest for more than nine months. The first few times, shortly after buying it, I was unsure: I stopped perceiving the aroma by the fifth hour, but then someone would tell me ‘you replicated your perfume, you smell great’. So I suppose it causes olfactory fatigue. On clothes, the duration can exceed two weeks if the garment was kept in a closed cupboard. If in the future I see the duration decreases, I will correct this review. To conclude, I want to mention that it is unnecessary to pay the exorbitant prices currently asked. I smelled the new Parfum and the dry down is more pleasant to my taste; the dry down is almost the same as the Profumo, just less intense, making it more versatile without losing its masculinity or attractiveness.
I have little more to say; I think it is excellent. Perhaps it is more interesting if you have already tried the normal ADG and Profondo, as it is an unexpected variant on the traditional formula. The touch of incense seems a very fortunate success. Now, while it is a wonderful fragrance, it is no longer available at a reasonable price. I doubt I will acquire it again. If you can afford it, it is almost a mandatory step on your perfumery journey.
I have a 2023 batch and a Profumo from 2018 with a magnetic cap a couple of years ago. In short, I know this perfume perfectly. Those who say the 2023 batch lasts nothing are simply LYING like dogs. They repeat like parrots what YouTubers tell them. I applied it yesterday at 13:30 and noticed it all afternoon until night. It projects strongly for the first 2 hours, and then you perfectly note the bursts. In fact, at 23:30 I could smell it without having to press my nose to my arm. I went to bed and the only thing that came to mind was: ‘The 2023 one even lasts longer than the 2018 one’. Perhaps the 2018 one projected a bit more at the start. But nothing else. And now you can tag me as negative if you wish.
Excellent flanker; I like it more than Profondo and certainly it lasts longer, though not as much as some claim (a maximum of 8 hours). Curiously, given that I generally get good performance from fragrances. It is a mature, dark, and denser character than the rest of the line, a marine fragrance you cannot be without.
I used to wear it, and it simply didn’t suit my personality. The fragrance transported me to a mature man (not in age, but in character), seductive and captivating… and he was the exact opposite 😂. But when I have a partner and deserve to spend what this perfume costs, I will gift it to them; you can be sure of that.
Very good; it is the best flanker in this Acqua di Giò line. It is both citrusy and woody, lasts well on the skin, and projects for several hours. If I were to buy it again, yes, without a doubt. Go for the safe option if you have any doubt about which to choose within this line; go without fear, this is the perfume.
Sprayed it at 6:50 with 10 sprays; by 14:30 it was already in its death throes. With a thermal sensation of 40 degrees, it lasted 6 hours, but the projection became very poor. It doesn’t smell heavy as people say, nor does it last longer than that; it is elegant, though I think it would perform better at night. It always stays within my personal bubble. I believe the overvaluation stems from it smelling rich and different, with that classic marine DNA, and because it is discontinued. A good purchase, but to be honest, it’s not a big deal. Cheers.
Exquisite perfume. The dark touch of incense and patchouli gives it special elegance. Usable in any weather, but in my opinion it shines more in spring. I wore it in summer and it lasted six hours, average for a parfum but well within the aquatic citrus range; in cold weather it lasts eight hours, up to ten with pleasant bursts. The best of the Acqua di Gio line by scent, I’d use it as a signature, but unfortunately it’s discontinued and finding it in a shop is a surprise. My batch is from 2023.
Undoubtedly one of the best perfumes this house has ever created and, without fear of saying it, one of the best in the world. You can buy it blind without fear of disappointment.
Masculine scent, fresh yet elegant due to the incense. Not for formal events, yes with a suit or shirt when you want to feel clean and formal. I didn’t like these scents before as they were suffocating, but this surprised me: strong opening as expected, then it softens and becomes fresh and wearable. It’s generic, perhaps that’s why it was discontinued, but if you make it your own, it’s the scent anyone should have. Projection and longevity aren’t the best; after three hours it stays close to the skin, but it’s very rich. I liked it.
Short longevity, spectacular scent that earns you many compliments.
If you’re looking for compliments, look for another perfume. This is the only one, alongside Dior Homme Parfum and Chanel Egoiste (the best in history), that didn’t give me a single one. ZERO. Comparing it to the original EDT, you realise how good the original was. Very good perfume, I like its mature imprint with the incense, but it lacks sparkle. This Profumo is the original Aqua di Gio with the lights dimmed.
I bought a Polish dupe and I’m blown away: it smells identical to the original from the early batches that lasted. One-ounce bottle for eight dollars. Exquisite, no one notices the difference, especially the trail you leave walking is incredible.
If it smells like Vick, I’m sorry. Elderly man perfume or sexy? Sexy, thanks to its simplicity: Montblanc Stalker or Creed Millesime Imperial.
One of the best scents I’ve ever tried.
To me, the scent of the ultimate man. The first time I smelled it, I felt the presence of someone superior in hierarchy and character, a civilised man, not a brute. It smells like a handsome type who leaves you breathless. I think I never had the bearing to wear it at 32; I’d save it for 35+. Well-dressed, it’s the best Aqua di Gio by a country mile. One of the best in history: a spotless cliché with the bare minimum needed to win applause, something difficult to achieve. A brilliant goal. I haven’t tried the Parfum yet.
One of my favourites; the launch date doesn’t matter, every time I smell it I smile with satisfaction.
Before and after in perfumery: total purity.
I don’t understand the hype for this perfume; this smells like old man’s soap, period.
In my particular case, it wasn’t love at first sniff. I found it very mature, although today I’ve gained some acquired taste for certain classic, gentleman, vintage perfumes. I don’t think this is unequivocally one of those, but I feel it and I want it as my perfect signature perfume for the age range I’m in and will be in for the next 8/10 years. It’s an DNA I feel a perfumer conjured up as an idea for a personal perfume. In fact, I already have a few sealed backups to survive the apocalypse of discontinuation.
Well, another Acqua di Gio flanker that leaves me with certain doubts. Given the known base, the same thing is noticeable here, with an incensed part that projects more at the start and as it dries down, slightly sweeter due to the patchouli. I like it a lot, but I don’t see it as so distinctive or different. It’s the same perfume as always, with marine, aromatic and citrus tints, but other accords are added to take a different path, especially in terms of usage. It’s no longer that predominantly summer fragrance; this opens up the usage range a bit more (I’d say for extreme summer heat during the day it doesn’t suit me) and works very well in spring and autumn, and depending on the usage in summer. For winter, it wouldn’t be a regular option for me, more of a treat. It feels a bit more mature and formal, but nothing more. The longevity on my skin isn’t what I read, but I feel 5/6 hours, where the projection shines at the start. Summary: being discontinued for a long time now and knowing what I know, I wouldn’t go crazy to acquire it, maybe; I’d lean towards Parfum, which doesn’t lose the character of the original while being something different too, and which can be found at a very good price.
One of the best flankers, if not the best. That essence of the regular Aqua di Gio, but darker, more elegant and nocturnal. With that incense and that note, Parfum doesn’t even reach the soles of its shoes. Let’s say Parfum is a knock-off of Profumo. If you can buy any dupe or copy made in some shops that resembles it even at 80%, buy it… but of course, if you like it, as tastes vary.
I bought the Explorer and the saleswoman gave me a sample. I wore it to a party and *bam*! What a rich scent, it was an explosion of aromas. It lasted all evening on my skin and the next day it was still detectable on my shirt, lasting two days. When I ran out, I rushed to buy it, but I can’t find it in any shop. I hope to get hold of it one day; if you see it in stock, buy it straight away. For dates and special events, it’s my recommendation.
A exquisite scent with body and good longevity. But it’s too mature for my taste, even though I’m over 40. I see it as a suit-and-tie boss of sixty.
The scent that captivated me and then vanished. If there is a fragrance that breaks your heart because it’s discontinued, it’s this one. Acqua di Gio Profumo is not just a perfume; it’s a masterpiece that defined modern elegance, and the fact that you tirelessly seek its imitation says it all. From the first spray, it greets you with a delicious aquatic opening, but with a depth that is noticeable. The bergamot blends with herbal notes to give a vibrant freshness, as if a sea breeze and a field of herbs united. The art lies in the heart and base: over time, earthy patchouli and incense emerge, adding mystery and elevating the level. What makes it unique is the rosemary, a serious and sophisticated herbaceous freshness. It’s not for teenagers; it’s for a classy man who knows what he wants. It’s versatile, perfect for the day or the office, but also for special occasions if you’re looking for something different from the sweet stuff. What a pity it’s no longer produced, but it’s always worth seeking. Rating 9/10.
I own the Acqua Di Gio Profumo and Le Labo’s The Noir 29, and I must say it’s a clone of the latter. The Noir 29 is more artistic, evolving and sensual (it rewards you if you let it develop), whereas the Profumo is more linear, elegant and easy to wear, but less surprising. I definitely stick with The Noir 29 from Le Labo.
I had no idea such a delicious beauty was discontinued, what a shame. I loved it because it is pure elegance; the traditional Acqua di Gio never appealed to me as being too linear and boring, but this is a work of art. It smells of smoky incense with patchouli, sage, rosemary and geranium, a herbal boom with a touch of black pepper, tonka bean, leather and nutmeg that left me divine. Yes, it’s discontinued, but what I tried was a fine imitation and since I don’t care if it’s the original, I’m going for it. It bears a huge resemblance to YSL’s NU and Donna Karan’s BE Delicious Nights; more than masculine, I found it unisex. I fell in love with this beauty.
Since it’s discontinued, it’s an absolute gem. I tried it at a summer wedding; even though I was some distance away, they asked me to come closer. It smells serious and mature, perfect for formal events; not for clubbing or dates. It doesn’t shine as brightly as a Valentino or JPG, but it commands presence: elegant, sober, fresh and clean, like a man who has everything sorted out and not a young lad looking for attention, haha.
Of the entire AdG line, this version is my favourite. The incense is one of my favourite notes and that’s what makes the difference. It’s not ecclesiastical, but rather subtle. It’s fresh with a touch of darkness that makes it elegant and adult, suitable for formal and evening wear. For those summer nights with a light breeze that makes you make an impression, allowing the projection to interact with those around you from time to time. What a shame it’s discontinued, something that seems to be a trend among big brands: stopping production or reformulating what was done well. Greetings to the community.
Undoubtedly a masterpiece; it’s one of the best perfumes I’ve ever smelled on someone else and it has an incredible trail. It makes you want to follow that person forever. As for longevity, it’s very good.
I’ve had many fresh, citrusy, and sparkling perfumes, but the Acqua di Giò speaks for itself. The ingredients feel of the highest quality. The Bluetouch by Frank Olivier is a dupe, but it doesn’t match up in quality; it’s more synthetic. Say what you will, this must be the best designer perfume in history, the best-selling in the world, and for a reason.
One of the sexiest and most masculine perfumes I’ve ever smelled in my life. Without a doubt, the best in the Giorgio Armani line. The mere memory of how it smells drives me crazy. What a pity its discontinuation. 10/10.
A masterpiece of perfumery. This variation has better longevity than the others and is more nocturnal, I think because of that incense which gives it an interesting edge.
Here, my friend below has the audacity to compare this perfect perfume with Lattafa’s, but as he says, everyone’s entitled to their opinion. One must respect that there are ignorant people with simple tastes who don’t know how to appreciate an excellent fragrance.
Comparing the synthetic bomb of Lattafa’s Atlas with the harmoniously balanced AdG Profumo is one of the greatest absurdities I’ve read. Wearing this perfume was a mark of distinction, but Armani decided to mutilate it and release it as AdG Parfum, with far less character than its predecessor.
It retains the DNA of the original with a modern, refined twist, ideal for nights and special occasions. I have a 10ml decant of it that, to be honest, I don’t want to use up.
The first time I tried it, I was speechless: it’s masculine, citrusy, and absolutely brutal for summer. Super versatile, it works for everyday wear, a night out, or a party. What a shame it’s discontinued, but ADG Parfum is an excellent alternative.
I’ve always described it as a smoky Aqua di Giò. I love the EDT and I really like this one, though it hasn’t quite won me over completely. I can perfectly detect the incense and rosemary; it’s very pleasant and versatile. I don’t feel it’s suitable for very hot days, better for cooler climates. On my skin, it lasts a long time. An excellent fragrance.
