Descripción
Al Oudh by L'Artisan Parfumeur is a spiced oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2009, this composition was created by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour. The top notes feature a combination of caraway, dates, dried fruits, cardamom, pink pepper, and orange blossom. The heart reveals a complex blend of oud wood, leather, frankincense, saffron, rose, iris, and neroli. Finally, the base notes settle on agarwood (civet), myrrh, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, tonka bean, Virginia cedar, and vanilla.

My wife bought this for herself, but upon opening it, it didn’t quite convince her. On my skin, however, it becomes much more woody and exotic; I absolutely love it. It’s a great unisex fragrance, though I believe it reaches its full glory on male skin far more than on female skin.
A magnificent ‘Oud’ featuring medicinal cherry tones, a generous dose of saffron, and an animalic dry-down. Despite the saffron, it possesses a sweet honey-like base (reminiscent of Kurkdjian’s work) that blends brilliantly with the animalic notes, setting it apart from the more bitter or acidic Arab ouds. It simply lacks projection, something I already suspected.
I understand some might smell sweat, but I don’t. However, the marked cumin, the vinegary sweetness of dates and the oud with civet (though synthetic) could make others associate it that way. For me, it barely evolves; it smells the same from start to finish. What I notice is a sharp cumin, dates and nuts, oud and animal notes. It smells slightly vinegary to me: not unpleasant, but not to my taste either. You might detect leather or incense, but I don’t. Ultimately, a vanilla emerges adding sweetness, but the initial scent prevails. Performance is fair: good longevity but only skin-scent. It works well for cold weather and night. As for whether it’s unisex, I don’t see a woman wearing this scent. Personally, I don’t quite like it; it doesn’t speak to me. The only good thing is that if you like it, you can find it at a good price.
L’Artisan offers a fine oud with spiced facets and an animalic touch, possessing a rare sweet-and-sour effect. The caraway dosage is key, lending a wild, animalic, and even sexual air. It belongs to the cumin family: aromatic, spicy, bitter, and sweet, yet less incisive to the nose and less sweaty than others. The civet provides the animalic point, alongside a subtle leather that isn’t shrill; the animalic note is not dirty but well-integrated. Nuts, dates, and balsamic notes soften the oud’s potency, making the scent less aggressive, warmer, sensual, and welcoming. Vanilla and musk in the dry-down deliver a solid impact, with a smoky incense touch that creates a mysterious aura. Projection isn’t huge, but the longevity is good. It’s a fine modern oud: monolithic, resinous, sweet, and warm without being overwhelming. It unleashes the animalic facet through the spice, making it deep and untamed without being heavy. Rating: 8.

Velvety wood, sweet with a soapy hint (sandalwood, perhaps cashmere), soft herbs, a whisper of rose, frankincense and a subtle, medicinal agar base. It’s a ‘clean’ oud, elegant and sophisticated, very different from Western interpretations. I’m in love: it’s unique, incredibly sexy, unisex, with beastly longevity and projection. It lasted over 11 hours; even after washing, it stuck to my skin like a tattoo. I’ll keep it forever.

Totally different scent from what the name suggests. There is no pure oud here, but rather something balsamic, spiced, with an animal touch that leaves me hypnotised; every time I wear it, I can’t stop smelling myself. Great job!
