  Perhaps someone with a keener nose might find a more poetic way to describe it, but this is how it comes across to me. It’s like Nikos’s Sculpture Home but finer, of better quality, though with a lighter trail and shorter longevity. Mind you, the price is infinitely higher (€160 versus €13). I see someone disagrees in the ‘reminds me of’ section, but there are no further comments. Curious.

  It’s not the most commented on in the new Houbigant collection, but I think it’s one of the most pleasant without being easy. It’s not an amber in the strict sense; that note doesn’t dominate as in others, but is sweet and slightly fruity (not bergamot) with a creamy touch. The mint makes it aromatic and the orange blossom dominates the start until the patchouli appears to give an earthy touch, followed by oakmoss. The leather is notable, a supporting actor after the orange blossom and patchouli. It finishes creamy with residual leather. It’s an amber where the note doesn’t rule, but a creamy orange blossom thanks to the patchouli and tonka-vanilla that soften the dry leather. Round, without edges, and pleasant from start to finish. Light changes, quite linear. Signature for non-excessive temperatures, neither too casual nor too elegant. That indefiniteness doesn’t make it recommendable in my view, as there are better options for amber, white florals, or leathers. It doesn’t resemble anything, perhaps residually Reflection Man, but nothing more. It has its own personality and is pleasant to others, not just to oneself. Very good creation. Another great job from a well-regarded house that isn’t valued enough; all their perfumes are notable, none stand out but none clash either. Very well done, Houbigant.

  I loved it. I perceive it as aromatic-quasi-balsamic and woody-spiced, pivoting between both to be versatile, elegant, and distinguishable. Easy to wear. The opening is citrusy and aromatic with force but maintaining elegance. Then it becomes more balsamic: resinous, dry, and spiced, with flowers in the background to provide cleanliness, without being a clean fragrance but rather shy. In the dry-down, the tonka bean adds sweetness and the whole ensemble makes it very wearable. Here is the magic: by notes it could seem like something else, but it is elegant and easy. It demands formal occasions and is versatile. For all year round, avoiding extreme heat or cold. Price very worth considering, top value-for-money.

  A perfume that can be your signature for work or special events like weddings, baptisms, or dates. It has the versatility of signature perfumes but with elegance and without being invasive. Usable in any season, except extreme temperatures, both day and night. Excellent performance, projection, and trail. The price-quality ratio is definitely very good. A great Houbigant perfume.

  Is there anything more versatile than Refection? The answer is Ambre des Abysses. If you like the DNA of Reflection, it’s a must-buy. What are the differences? This dries out darker, making it suitable for the night where Reflection falls short. It projects more without being a bomb and lasts longer, especially with the new Amouage batches. It reaches where Reflection doesn’t, and since this covers almost everything, it’s a beast.

  Houbigant’s Oriental collection is a beast; Antoine Lie and Luca Maffei have truly worked their magic on this. I already tried Tabac Nomade in October and loved it, but this Ambre des Abysses is on another level: elegant, modern and classically refined. It smells of pure magic, with note quality that projects incredibly. It radiates good vibes and sophistication, exactly what one expects from high French perfumery. Although it appears versatile, I see it as a night scent, perfect for the rest of the year rather than summer. It is so well crafted that the notes blend seamlessly, yet the white, clear, crystalline amber with mint, orange blossom, leather, moss and vanilla is the star. Like in Tabac, everything scents through a crystal, elegant and inviting. If you want to treat yourself to something beautiful for Christmas, buy it and you will thank yourself. My bottle needs macerating.

  The Houbigant Oriental collection is spectacular; the noses of Antoine Lie and Luca Maffei have truly shown their class. I already tried Tabac Nomade in October and it was a joy, but this Ambre des Abysses is an elegant, modern all-rounder with great personality. It’s liquid magic, with note quality that projects incredibly. It puts you in a good mood and sophisticated, in the style of high French perfumery. Despite its versatility, I see it as nocturnal and for the rest of the year, not for summer. It’s so well executed that the notes float like through glass, giving an elegant and inviting sensation. If you want to treat yourself to something lovely for Christmas, look at this and you’ll thank yourself. My batch needs macerating.

  For me, Ambre des Abysses is the complete package: it evolves, adapts, and balances everything perfectly. Fresh, floral, and sweet, yet without being strident; mossy and subtly woody. It’s an unpredictable amber that delivers in spades. The perfect wardrobe staple for all seasons, and within the niche, a price that respects the value, considering a PdM costs double. Magnificent.
