  • Aquarose. Neither the name nor the scent initially caught my eye, as I don’t usually like marine accords, but since I received a complimentary sample, why not? Spoiler: it ends badly. At first, it smells strongly of the ocean, with salt and even seaweed, like the smell left on your skin and hair straight after a dip in the sea, followed by a bath of rose water. Within minutes, I notice salty wood, like a piece of timber that has been submerged for too long. By 30 minutes, the rose comes through a bit more and the salt calms down. Honestly, I don’t detect anything else, not even the jasmine I love so much; this fragrance has given me olfactory fatigue due to its strength. I lost count of how many times I sneezed in the first hour. The salty note is very intense, almost stinging, and it even exacerbated my rhinitis. I really don’t intend to try it again; it’s not for me.

  • I was intrigued enough to order a decant, and the truth is, it smells of carnation all the time.

  • Aquarose is the most ‘simple’ option of the Pearlescent line I’ve tried, and while it might sound synthetic, it actually smells nice. It’s a fresh, balanced aquatic rose. I get the white floral touch and that floating wood note that’s also in Amongst Waves, but here it’s cleaner and less intense. The salty note others mention is minimal for me, making it more unisex and softening it with a touch of sweet rose. I like it, though it’s not a total winner. It’s more feminine, ideal for heat, and could be a perfect daily scent; it has that ‘naturalness’ that gives it a point over being merely correct. Rating: 6.5/10. Tried as a sample from Gallagher Perfumes.
