Descripción

Brasil Dream for Him by Estée Lauder is a woody-spicy fragrance for men, launched in 2009. Its composition, signed by the perfumer who created it, unfolds an olfactory pyramid where the top notes are cardamom, pepper, and coriander; the heart reveals cinnamon, neroli, oregano, and nutmeg; and the base settles on patchouli, leather, French labdanum, and sweet paprika.

  • A fragrance unknown found on a lucky day. BRASIL DREAM FOR HIM by ESTÉE LAUDER is well-placed within the Woody Spiced family listed in the description. Therefore of Brazilian Dream nothing at all (at least what I understand a Brazilian dream to be: pineapple mango papaya coconut passion fruit guava dragon fruit etc.). This line of DREAMS by Estée Lauder was launched to be sold in Duty-Free shops at airports and elsewhere. Three feminine scents were produced—Emerald Bali and Brazil—and only one masculine: Brazil in 50 ml. BRASIL DREAM has a piquant opening based on paprika nutmeg and cardamom; very pleasant and of course penetrating and energising but not from a tropical freshness perspective rather from strongly spiced woods. Because BRASIL DREAM is very woody and very spiced that is to say very attractive to my taste. The resinous note of labdanum along with more probable cedar and cypress compose an intense and deep blend. As it progresses in its development the initial spices settle and the resin and leather take on more body; I even detect echoes of myrrh. We are now in a niche territory; a niche of those I have been able to try dense and mysterious. The exclusive Armani line has some similar scents evoking ceremonial balms initiatory ointments and priestly resins reserved for the most secret rites. Ironically this BRAZILIAN DREAM calls itself COLOGNE when we are talking about at least an Eau de Toilette (if not directly an Eau de Parfum) which should be named CEREMONIAL RESIN. Its aroma has me intoxicated and it’s a pity it has disappeared like so many other beauties. Even its bottle is beautiful in its simplicity: amber-coloured with carved pads in the glass and crowned by a delicate gold cap. BRASIL DREAM FOR HIM teaches us how beauty can be enclosed in a container and a name that have gone unnoticed waiting for someone—like me in this case—to have the luck of finding it.

  • I found a treasure on a lucky day: BRASIL DREAM FOR HIM by Estée Lauder. Although the description classifies it as woody-spiced forget pineapple coconut or passion fruit; there is nothing tropical here. It is a Duty-Free line with three feminine scents and only this masculine one in 50 ml. The opening is piquant with paprika nutmeg and cardamom; it is penetrating and energising but through spiced woods not exotic freshness. Labdanum cedar and cypress create a dense and deep blend. Over time the spices give way to resin leather and even echoes of myrrh. It feels like a mysterious niche like ceremonial balms or sacred ointments. Pure irony: it is called Cologne but it smells like an Eau de Parfum or even stronger deserving to be called Ceremonial Resin . It has me intoxicated and it’s a pity it has disappeared. The bottle is exquisite: amber-coloured with carvings and a gold cap. This perfume demonstrates that beauty sometimes goes unnoticed until someone has the luck to find it.

  • Upon seeing the notes you might imagine a voluptuous rich scent that lasts all day. I’d been wanting to try this for ages mostly because it’s by Lauder and now that I have I’ve realised how often we form wrong ideas about a perfume in our heads and how essential it is to just try it rather than letting preconceived notions guide us. Because Brasil Dream isn’t exuberant party-ready or aphrodisiac as the name suggests. To my taste it’s a leather scent in the vein of Loewe 7 Anónimo heavily spiced with a hint of old doctor’s briefcase and a touch of formaldehyde. I love the fleeting opening; it’s very herbal smelling of spices and crushed brambles with a surprisingly metallic note. Kokoriko though not similar to this starts the same way so it doesn’t remind you of anything you’ve smelled before. Then it settles into the scent that defines its entire evolution which I find less appealing: a very wearable leather soaked in spices. You bring it close to your nose and the cold spicy piquant dance really stings the eyes; it could be a combination of crushed ants and spices and pepper yet it lacks a nocturnal or seductive texture. It’s perfect for daytime; to put it simply it’s the leather-and-spice equivalent of the aromatic scents for men of the nineties—rich in nuance yet refreshing. Sometimes a woody air strikes you reminiscent of turpentine and liniments for treating wood. The dry-down is a very wearable spiced coolness ideal for a man who doesn’t want to overcomplicate things but wants to smell good. It’s the first Lauder men’s fragrance I’ve tried and while I wouldn’t buy it it’s amusing because it’s well-made. The notes feel high-quality evolving in two quite perceptible phases. The longevity isn’t crazy but is more than adequate conveying something halfway between sophistication and functionality as is usual for the house. Perhaps it feels slightly undefined possibly due to the name and bottle which mislead you into thinking something more hedonistic; this would have been a perfect fit for a brand like Zegna Ferré Missoni or Bottega Veneta.
