Camel by Zoologist Perfumes is an oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2017, the nose behind this composition is Christian Carbonnel. The top notes reveal dried fruits, dates, frankincense, and rose. The heart unfolds myrrh, incense, amber, cinnamon, cedar, jasmine, and orange blossom. The base notes complete the olfactory pyramid with agarwood, oud wood, musk, sandalwood, tonka bean, vanilla, and vetiver.

  • Known as a modern Arabic fragrance… it’s dry, fruity, refreshing, heavy, and distinct, yet familiar at the same time. It has moderate to low sillage but excellent longevity; it projects well but stays close to the skin, so control the sprays (2-3 are enough). It’s not an instant love for most, but anyone can fall for it with time. I wouldn’t wear it on a first date, but it’s perfect for making it your signature scent. I doubt you’ll find anything similar in your collection. Recommend buying a sample or travel spray. Scent: 8/10 Performance: 8/10 Uniqueness: 9/10 Price-Quality: 5/10 Versatility: 7/10 (Suitable for any weather, day or night).

  • I’ll start with the official description as it hits the mark perfectly: an olfactory caravan towards a distant market where rose, dried fruits, and jasmine blend with incense, myrrh, amber, and cinnamon, before being enveloped by musks and oud. CAMEL Perfumist: Carbonnel (the same as Croxato Man 😅). I was pleasantly surprised by this fragrance, which features tonka bean in the dry-down and smells delicious 🤤; it’s firmly in my top 3 for the brand. In my opinion, with recent releases, they’ve stopped doing what characterised them to focus on ‘mass-appealing’ perfumes 😑. Personal note: It doesn’t try to recreate the animal scent, it doesn’t smell like a camel (I’ve ridden several, just in case you’re wondering), but rather transports you to the desert ecosystem. SALUTATIONS 🖖🏻

Bought a sample because I loved the date note in the store, but at home it just smells like urine. Horror.

  • A warm and sweet aroma, dominated by dried fruits and myrrh. It gives the sensation of being under the shade of date palms in the heart of the desert. To my taste, it’s one of the most versatile and easy-to-wear fragrances within the Zoologist house. Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

  • The very essence of exoticism and nothing more. Beyond the Camel field by Zoologist, there is nothing else. Thanks to the nose wizard, Christian Carbonnel, this perfume is an oasis of complexity in the mainstream desert. Between notes of incense and myrrh, it’s as if your nose embarks on an olfactory caravan. It makes me feel like Lawrence of Arabia in the middle of the world!

  • Curious, to put it mildly. The first thing I sense is a warm, sweet hint of diabetic urine. Fortunately, it quickly starts to settle and becomes clearly an oriental amber, spiced, and animalic scent. Cinnamon, dates and nuts stand out, and I also manage to detect, in bursts, a tiny touch of dried rose petals. Its projection and longevity are atomic: use sparingly. A purely winter and mature perfume (leaning vintage), unisex and for people of strong personality who can wear a scent not for the masses with their heads held high. I see it more as a personal pleasure scent or for use in situations with people who love you unconditionally. My partner, for example, likes it a lot. As for me, I have mixed feelings: I would love it if the civet accord weren’t so evident, as it would be easier to wear, although I acknowledge that it is precisely what makes it so special: the combination of sweetness and dirtiness feels very cosy. It’s not one of the weirdest from the brand, but I wouldn’t wear it to work. Pleasant: 7/10 Interesting: 8/10 Versatile: 5/10 Original: 8/10

  • Pure amber, warm and with a sweet touch. You can detect incense, myrrh, cedar, cinnamon and a lovely orange, but also something dirty and animalic. I imagine a city near the desert with dusty streets and spice markets, or cowboys riding at dusk. It’s interesting and wearable; I like that dirtiness.

  • It is quite amber, warm, and slightly sweet. I detect incense, myrrh, cedar, a touch of cinnamon, and a lovely orange, with that dirty, animal vibe that evokes a city by the desert with dusty streets and spice markets. It also reminds me of cowboys riding in the afternoon. Quite interesting and usable; I like that ‘dirtiness’.

  • Curious, to put it mildly. The opening is a warm, sweet hint of diabetic urine, but it quickly settles into a spiced, amber oriental with animal touches. Cinnamon, dates, and nuts stand out, with bursts of dried rose petals. Projection and longevity are atomic: use sparingly. It is strictly winter, mature (leaning vintage), unisex, and for people with strong personalities who aren’t afraid to stand out. I see it as personal enjoyment or for close situations; my partner loves it. I have mixed feelings: I’d love for the civet to be less obvious to make it more wearable, although I admit that blend of sweetness and filth is very cosy. It’s not the strangest from the brand, but I wouldn’t wear it to work. Pleasant: 7/10 Interesting: 8/10 Versatile: 5/10 Original: 8/10

At first, it literally smells like urine, hehe. Although animal notes usually work on my skin, I wasn’t sure if that opening was normal, but I see I’m not the only one. Fortunately, it disappears in under two minutes, leaving a warm, oriental amber base that is pleasant and intimate. While nice, it’s not quite enough to win me over personally.
