  I like it. It starts fruity-orangey and quickly turns into an ecclesiastical frankincense, where amber, elemi and vanilla provide a sweet base, cardamom adds a spiced touch and sclarea offers a green wink. I don’t usually favour very incense-heavy fragrances, but this one has pleased me greatly. The quality is extraordinary and the performance quite good. It reminded me a bit of Jubilation. Ideal for autumn and winter, for day and for night. Longevity is very long-lasting and the trail is moderate.

  Lubin’s Akkad is a spiced oriental from that Parisian house founded in 1798. It begins with an orangey citrus note, but it’s merely an illusion; soon it yields to frankincense and elemi, which together strip away the ecclesiastical air to impart something mysterious, blending that smoke and resins with the heat of cardamom. Then there’s a powdery touch from labdanum and patchouli (which is hard to come by) over a sweet base of vanilla and a balsamic amber that lends great sensuality. I’ve liked it from the start, but the heart phase when the amber emerges is simply wow, and the dry-down with more vanilla is another marvel. The quality of the notes is top-notch and everything is well-balanced; all are visible but none dominates. What a pity I wasted months with the sample without noticing… as soon as I wore it on a quiet afternoon, I decided to buy the bottle. It’s essential for lovers of amber and frankincense, a top overall and one of my best purchases. It’s complex, versatile, warm, mysterious and seductive; with this, you leave no one indifferent (not even yourself, it’s addictive). Longevity is over 15 hours, projection doesn’t need to fill a room, it’s not invasive and feels just right with movement. Totally unisex. A proper perfume bomb.
