Journey to China: Louis Vuitton brings three perfumes to the international market

Tea Storm, Ink Mark and Moon Tale now appear among the new additions to the UK catalogue of Louis Vuitton. Grouped under the name Journey to China, the three perfumes were created by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud and draw on different aspects of Chinese culture.

This September brings their international rollout: the collection was first presented in China in 2025. It forms part of the house’s Perfumes of the World line.

Tea Storm: tea with citrus and flowers

Tea is the starting point, but the composition goes beyond recreating an infusion. Tea Storm combines a tea accord with lemongrass, magnolia and centifolia rose from Grasse, the latter obtained by CO₂ extraction.

Louis Vuitton describes woody facets and hints of hay and honey in the tea accord. Cavallier took an outdoor tea scene as his starting point for the combination of citrus and floral notes.

Ink Mark: ink as a starting point

Ink Mark draws on a less familiar source: Chinese calligraphy and the smell of black ink. The brand cites poems written in water on the streets of Shanghai as an inspiration.

The composition pairs sandalwood and incense, accompanied by magnolia, rose and ambery notes. Louis Vuitton describes a contrast between the creamy texture of sandalwood and the mineral character of incense.

Moon Tale and the collection’s bottles

Moon Tale takes a floral, fruity direction. It brings together raspberry, peony, magnolia, sambac jasmine and geranium, with musks that the brand describes as powdery. It draws on the Chinese legend of the Four Beauties and on beauty rituals.

The Chinese references extend to the bottles. Marc Newson’s design uses opalescent glass and lacquered caps inspired by small Chinese snuff bottles. All three are listed in 100 ml bottles, priced at £265 each on the UK website, and can be refilled at boutiques equipped with a perfume fountain.
