  • This perfume is super subtle and discreet, it doesn’t bother anyone and goes perfectly for the office. I like it, but it doesn’t drive me crazy. The downside is that my skin eats it up strangely; with other woody scents it’s fine, but here it vanishes in no time. I don’t detect any citrus, just a translucent amber carrying the woods. These smell like an unsharpened pencil: soft and creamy. The ultra-translucent vanilla gives it a touch that whispers on the skin. I don’t detect any flowers. I tried putting vanilla cream underneath to make it last longer, but on my skin it doesn’t reach half an hour. It smells good and is pleasant, but I don’t love it due to the poor longevity. The projection isn’t good either, and I expected more from Hermès. Honestly, it is much better than its predecessor, Eau des Merveilles, which I found very masculine to my taste.

Eau Claire des Merveilles is a super minimalist perfume, almost soulless, fitting right into the typical conformity of Hermès. Compared to the jewels of the line, such as the Elixir, this one falls short. It opens with a sharp floral and a citrus that doesn’t smell like citrus, according to Fragrantica. Then it descends into an ultra-warm oriental amber and vanilla, nothing like dessert vanilla. As it dries down, a resinous spice emerges that made me think of elemi or pink pepper; basically, it becomes an almost exact copy of Si Lolita by Lolita Lempicka. To my nose, it’s like a charcoal version of Lolita: hers is complex and surprising, whereas this is linear and boring. For a nose like Jean-Claude Ellena’s, it’s an incongruous madness, out of step with Hermès’ style and very poor in nuances. The pale liquid matches its translucent, slippery appearance, desert-like, like a freshly washed Si Lolita or a very uptight Terre d’Hermès niece. The trail is low and the longevity is average, almost scarce. I recommend trying the other one before spending, as it is cheaper and smells much better.
