  • Honestly, it just smells of cumin. I was really eager to try it, but upon smelling it I was left blank. My joy has turned into a well.

Hymn to cumin. I know that a perfume with this spice as the protagonist doesn’t usually please almost anyone. It’s not the most elegant, and even in the kitchen, many people can’t stand it, so few venture into spiced dishes. At first, I wasn’t a fan either, but little by little I’ve seen its strong points. The 2013 Rochas Femme isn’t like the one by Mr Roudnitska that I tested (or at least I don’t feel it is), and it’s not just because of the complexity of that one, but because of the cumin. In the 2013 version there are plums and peaches, with the flowers, but all of that goes under the wing of that note which gives it a human and earthly animality. I don’t smell it as kitchen-like, but I acknowledge that perhaps it comes out a little too strong and I’m surprised that nowadays so many women enjoy what Mr Cresp proposes with this. On the other hand, I know people like it (I’m now a fan) and wear it with joy, whether for personal use or in society. I would like to recommend it, but it’s difficult to find in physical shops and I don’t recommend buying it blindly… unless you like challenges and don’t dislike cumin as the main note.

I’m not backing out; I’m the last to comment and I’m not changing my mind. I bought a small bottle of Rochas Femme and, after using it, my opinion hasn’t shifted, although I suspect the product has improved slightly. I absolutely love cumin in perfumes; that’s how I discovered the 2013 version, but the one I bought has softened that note. Even though I was specifically looking for a strong presence, I don’t regret it in the slightest. Perhaps they’ve made it more approachable for those who can’t stand cumin, but I must say that, even with that note present, my bottle wins on those bone-dry fruits and femininity. It’s for me, I don’t see it as unisex, but I’m very happy because both the one I tested and the one I own are a huge favourite. I’m delighted to be able to recommend this version, reformulation or whatever you call it, of Rochas Femme. So, ladies, go on and try the 2013 version. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, but you might just take a pleasant surprise.
