Black Suede by Avon

Smells like pure childhood, the kind you’d wear to primary school. Wearing it feels like travelling straight back to the nineties. It’s a spiced oriental profile, if you can describe it in modern terms. An absolute yes for adding to your collection.

I received it yesterday as a gift from a friend. As soon as I smelled it, it was delightful and instantly recognisable. It’s the same essence as Chanel No. 5. Since I adore that perfume, I liked this one too. It tends to be unisex; it doesn’t feel particularly masculine, but it’s a good choice if you enjoy notes of this type.

It’s a clean musk in a barbershop style. It might seem old-fashioned or retro, but I love it. It’s not trendy in 2023 and you might not like it, so test it first. Works well in temperate or cold climates, suitable for those over 30 and various occasions. Moderate trail, lasting between 4 and 6 hours.

I bought one in 2011 and it was very good, but nowadays it has lost its quality. The last time I bought it was in 2020, and I still have a quarter of the bottle because I hardly use it; the scent is imperceptible and the longevity is non-existent, max four hours. It’s pleasant for mature people with a rebellious personality. It could be considered for formal occasions. The best thing is to use it in cold climates, not hot ones, because with sweat it mixes and loses impact, turning into a bad smell. The price is accessible if you’re looking for a discreet cologne that only one in fifteen people in a closed room can detect. Then it’s your option.

It’s the only Avon fragrance I’ve bought solely because it’s vintage. Heavily musky with a distinct retro tone, truly from before. I agree with the previous review: it smells a lot like Versace L’Homme but without the characteristic lemon. It’s from the catalogue, hyper-cheap (I got it for five dollars), but with good performance (five hours have passed and I can still smell it in bursts). It holds up close to the skin quite well, even more than some pricier ones. Recommended only for vintage lovers; regarding cost and performance, it’s more than approved.

Reminds me of Versace L’Homme, though less citrusy and more spiced. The longevity caught me out; it’s very good. Smells like the 80s, soapy and talcum-like once dry. I picked it up in Argentina at a ridiculous price compared to the original. It’s masculine and clean, ideal for veterans. If you like that seventies/eighties style, buy it without hesitation.

A tender, warm, and comforting aroma that gives a baby-like sensation. My girlfriend loves it; once I wore it, she said it made her want to hug me. I love its talcum aura… At first, the aldehydes remind me a lot of Old Spice and a soapy sensation, then it evolves into a Johnson’s Baby oil style, before becoming talcum-like and warm. I love it.

I’ve had it for years, who knows since when I got the bottle. Maybe I used it many years ago. I open it and it smells like talcum with more talcum. I’m sure it’s not a more complex scent than Azzaro Pour Homme, but equally vintage. It smells clean, like someone just out of the shower. I wouldn’t say it smells of man or masculinity, simply clean, but it doesn’t radiate modernity like a Nautica Voyage or a Lacoste Blanc Pure. Maybe I’ll give it another chance one day.

Hello! I’m new and this is my first review. This perfume brings back many memories of my childhood, as we were both born in the glorious 80s. I absolutely love it! It has that vintage barbershop touch but very refined, nothing cheap. The amber is addictive. Although it doesn’t have the potency it used to due to reformulations, I enjoy it every time I wear it. It’s my daily favourite for cold autumn and winter days. I wish it lasted longer, but I’m content that Avon keeps making it so we can age together. Greetings!

It was a gift that left me indifferent. It’s a classic scent for a classic man, and personally, I don’t like it; it feels a bit dizzying to my nose due to the excess of amber, musk and woods that my nose doesn’t enjoy. The longevity and trail are good, it’s long-lasting and projects well, a true Avon classic that becomes the typical gift nobody wants.

I think it’s a very rich fragrance. I didn’t know what I’d find when I first used it as it was a blind buy. Besides sharing a bottle with Wild Country, I think it’s worth having. Despite being a catalogue item, Avon went to great lengths with good-quality raw materials. Synthetics? Probably, but made with taste and delicacy. It has generated more compliments than recognised brands by denoting versatile elegance: presence without pigeonholing you, which widens its uses. Nutmeg, cloves and amber stand out, with a superior musk to Wild Country that improves projection and longevity. Although it lasts about four hours, it lingers on clothes, a plus for female curiosity.

I have a full bottle at home, a gift from perhaps over 5 years ago… the scent is a bit dizzying, I think I can smell the musk and a slight woody note. It’s not my taste at all, it even caused me discomfort.
