Timeless by Avon

It’s timeless, though it might look like it’s a million years old. I bought it tired of smelling like cake or mango tart; this reminds me of my mother selling Avon. Previously, I saw it as a perfume for ‘older ladies’ that I wouldn’t use, but today I sought it out because it brings back memories. I loved it when it was potent and was surprised it lasted hours with just a few drops; it left a trail at home and earned compliments outside. The next day it was still strong on skin and clothes. I detect gardenia and lemon at full strength, followed by cedar and patchouli—that old-school blend I adore. Over time it becomes aldehydic and creamy, without that powdery scent I hate. I think it was a great gamble by the brand to emulate past furores. I’m surprised it remains intact, almost unreformulated, with its vintage DNA. At some point it reminded me of the original Opium due to its potency and oriental woods. Verdict: if you like potent, long-lasting, vintage perfumes, this is your spot. I’m fascinated I had the guts to buy it again; it will definitely repeat. Projection: a million. Price: incredibly cheap. Fact: I snagged it on a bargain at Mercado Libre.

I’m testing the cologne water from my nonna. I notice it smells more powdery than before; previously it was very spicy and ‘heavy’. This version is fresher and more wearable; I like it better and feel encouraged to adopt it.

This perfume is a beast for what Avon offers. It opens fine and elegant, with ripe apricot and almondised notes clashing against an opulent amber. It’s fairly linear, with subtle but necessary vanilla to take away the dated sweetness. As it dries, it becomes pure amber with opoponax. The liquid is oily, fixes well on skin, and activates with water. It projects to 1m for the first hour then drops but is still felt, with a mysterious trail. I use it for layering with Coco Chanel Vintage; it’s 80% identical but lacks the cloves and the rose of Coco. It also goes great with Opium; they resemble each other more on that amber side. It’s an aristocratic scent but smells like a man, nothing feminine these days. Excellent for autumn! Top price, especially the Alhambra version; same juice, more quantity, and a nicer bottle.

A little gem from Avon that leaves several designer perfumes in the dust. If you’re not used to this type of aroma it might clash, but for the cheap price it’s worth trying. It comes out very potent with aldehydes right on the skin, but the intensity drops quickly and settles into something elegant, floral with a vanilla sweetness (not dessert-like) mixed with resins that awaken white flowers; everything is very harmonious. Perhaps my bottle is very new, but I would have liked it to be more potent and leave more of a trail (for the votes). On the plus side, it has excellent longevity for an EDT. It reminds me slightly of Opium. As its name evokes, this fragrance is out of time.

It is an excellent perfume. It makes me think of those who belittle Avon perfumes. It is totally vintage, yes. Not for everyone’s taste? Yes. Is it strong? Totally. Strong, persistent, potent. But it is a real perfume bomb! For such a low cost. It is always available on offer if you look for it and it never disappoints, as I believe happens with all Avon perfumes. I use it as a wildcard. I have thought that it even brings me luck, because on the occasions I have used it, it has gone wonderfully, so I attribute it to my magical thinking about this beautiful perfume that I hope Avon continues to keep. In my case, I feel the aldehydic note strongly, but then, once it settles, its dry down is a pleasure: so floral and talc-like, with just the right sweetness. It is a very well-made perfume; without being similar or a clone, I relate it by its potency to Giorgio de Beverly Hills. Perhaps they are from the same era and share notes, but I find them in the same tune.

A vintage classic; obviously a bit dated, yet it certainly doesn’t go unnoticed. It’s not for young ladies seeking fruity, sugary scents that fade quickly… it has character. I don’t see it as similar to Miss Dior, perhaps a few notes. It’s warm, perfect for an autumn afternoon, though I wouldn’t wear it at night.

I have more perfumes than I imagined. Although I still have many to try, I have learned a lot and now I have what to compare, especially between classics. Timeless is one of my favourites in the collection. From Avon, who would say that? It far surpasses iconic brands that few question today. I am using it today and thought that, if I didn’t know it, I wouldn’t even say that Timeless is of better quality than some Chanel diluted ones I paid a pretty penny for and tested blindly. I understand that its intensity is not for everyone. It is not sober, nor would I use it every day. But I love it, it is addictive, I don’t quite know why. It is warm, cosy, resinous and well sweet. Sweet from flowers, not from cheap sweets… I am fascinated! Long life to this jewel for which we fortunately can pay a few coins.

A vintage jewel at a super-accessible price, an oasis of aldehydes amidst so many cloying gourmands, wonderfully distinguished and powdery, a profusion of notes… don’t miss it, the price is negligible.

Timeless is a little jewel from Avon that shines like the brand’s star perfume. Beyond its repertoire, it is one of its most pampered. It’s an amber bomb, earthy, with a daring vanilla that intertwines with resins and tonka bean. Musky, exuberant, suggestive. If I compare it to Guerlain and Coty, they share that amber, woody, vanilla halo. Especially due to the vanilla in the dry-down, it brings it closer to Shalimar, but without leather. It also approaches Houbigant’s Chantilly (without spices and leather) and something of Revlon’s Intimate (without so much musk and civet) and Madame Rochas (though this one is more floral). Over the years, in reformulations, they reduced the aldehydes to give way to a more preponderant vanilla. Broadly speaking, its essence wasn’t damaged, and, at an accessible price, it still offers excellent quality. The fixation of the early versions was astronomical, over 10 hours; now it performs less, but for me, it’s sufficient. The bottle is a treasure, still available in the 70s format. For many it may be a mature scent, but for me, it remains Timeless.

Timeless lives up to its name; it’s a perfume that remains current. Decades of women using it. It’s a perfume I respect, powdery and very balsamic; on my skin, I also detect a very strong patchouli. The eau de toilette lasts for hours. I even tried washing it with water and soap, and the perfume remains. It’s the only one that gives me a headache, but beyond that, it’s classic, vintage and elegant. You must try it, even if just once in your life.

The perfume isn’t ugly; it’s rich, but I detect a baby powder smell and I think I’d use it to put on a pillow for sleeping, but not for any other occasion. It’s rich, but it doesn’t convince me as a perfume.

A successfully crafted fragrance, nothing light by design given the intense essences blended. What a pity about the stereotypical comments like ‘for an older lady’ or ‘heavy’. Perfumes are either good or bad, period. Not old people’s or young people’s. The quality is evident even if you don’t like it. This one has quality; it’s not an icon but it’s well-made. As the sense of smell is managed in the womb, it’s normal to associate it with memories of grandmothers or aunts, but that isn’t an analysis of the perfume. A young woman can wear it perfectly and look regal, depending on the event and the amount.

I didn’t like it at first, but on the second try, yes. I got it from Mercado Libre in Uruguay. What a shame my husband doesn’t like it; he says it’s too strong.

Timeless is one of the few glorious perfumes, very balanced, opulent, elegant, complex. Wow, I admit with a flourish that Timeless is a wonderful perfume, a 10 earned by merit. Timeless smells good (or good, it used to, I no longer see it on sale in my country) of opoponax, aldehydes, tonka bean, amber, musk, patchouli and in the background shone the vanilla, white flowers and woods. You could smell and decipher all its notes; at the start it was a bomb and as it settled on the skin each note took its place, becoming companions, filling with balance and becoming a little talc-like. What a delight it was to smell this great perfume at a stupendous price. Timeless was so elegant and opulent; its trail and longevity were moderate. I miss those Avon glories.

The best thing Avon has: a complex, elegant, and classic perfume that brings me back to memories of perfumes from the past like Sortilege by Le Galion or Intimate by Revlon. I love wearing it daily and can attest to its sensual effect, as more than one man has been left speechless by Timeless.
