La Panthere by Cartier

Of course it smells rich, but for me, it’s too much; it almost reminds me of Quartz.

Elegant to the utmost. It reminds me of my father’s mother’s perfumes, a woman of iron. The moss and patchouli give it a vintage touch, while the musk adds cleanliness. It’s not for young girls seeking fruity fragrances; to wear it, one needs life experience.

I tried the Parfum version and, honestly, it still feels a bit rigid for me. But the Eau de Parfum is another story: much more balanced. It has sweetness, but it’s so well-crafted with that leather, moss, and musk that it ends up elegant and superbly armoured. I also tried the Eau de Toilette: lighter, easier to wear, and although it doesn’t last as long, I loved it. It’s already on my wish list. What strikes me most is the character. It shouts power. It has a ‘boss’ vibe, someone who steps hard and doesn’t follow trends. In a world of cupcake and raspberry-perfumes with sugar, this stands its ground and goes another way: unique, elegant, and zero commonality. In short: La Panthère does not age. If it doesn’t click with you at first—which happened to me—give it another chance. When you give it space, it will surprise you.

It is very sophisticated and feminine. It has a lot of personality, so it’s not for going blind. I think the magic of The Panthère is that it suits us all differently. It’s like a perfumery Russian roulette.

This perfume is a bomb! It lasts all day and more! It has a leather and patchouli presence that leaves a musky, soft, and luxurious scent on the skin, making it even more delicate. The gardenia is the note I perceive the least. I love perfumes with Ylang-Ylang; they add warmth. The orange blossom, rose, and moss dance over the animal notes. I agree with Marielanne; it has nothing to envy from Delina, in fact, it surpasses it. In my opinion, it’s more addictive, less sweet, and adds more class. I can imagine Alaska with it, or Sean Young in Blade Runner, my goodness, I’m imagining it mixed with ‘that’ she used to smoke… Sublime evaporation and evolution, great trail, compliments guaranteed, not suitable for shy people. 🕯️ 10/10.🔥

Where the hell do I find a woman for this? Eyes wide looking like a fool standing among the crowd at El Corte Inglés with a bottle of La Panthere searching for an answer to a stupid question… Where? I wasn’t expecting anything; I was just killing time and decided to try some fragrances. The bottle caught my eye and although I’d read good things about La Panthere I certainly didn’t expect this from the product itself. I was left astonished in pure glory eager to feel it on a woman. Rarely has my imagination been enough to make me feel satisfied and yes there was a bit of shame in thinking about looking for a woman for a fragrance rather than the other way round. To my defence I wasn’t looking for just any woman but a special one: mature in character and form attractive sober self-possessed of that kind who looks you in the face with confidence and kindness with an active mind a seductive laugh and a feline walk. In short someone unreal; I don’t know if she exists (a hangover from my obsession with literature and noir cinema). La Panthere has a fruity opening slightly boozy sweet but not syrupy with a vegetal touch that gives it a graceful impression. Fortunately I don’t detect the pear in the development but rather an intoxicating gardenia note that blends so well with the rest of the notes that it gives an ethereal imprint to what I believe is a masterpiece. The base: a terribly elegant combination of suede and moss. It screams luxury sensuality and delicate strength. It has something animalistic but in no way dirty; rather wild potential beneath black silky skin. I think its formulation is such a rarity for being so contemporary; I sincerely appreciate Laurent’s nose. Longevity and projection? For me quite good; I wouldn’t recommend over-applying as it’s not necessary. Did I buy La Panthere? Of course for personal taste although I must admit I still lack a woman for this.

The key chords are fruity floral sweet earthy mossy woody and animalic. The opening is slightly green with a faint aniseed touch that fades quickly to give way to the fruitiness. The nut note adds considerable sweetness without becoming a cloying gourmand that overwhelms the senses; it’s more of a sweet fruitiness. Once this phase passes the floral chords of gardenia alongside rose stand out. This accord forms the base. A floral base combined with mossy musky animalic and woody notes accompanied by a leather base that adds great personality. An elegant fragrance with character. I don’t see it on teenagers; it’s a strong scent for a more mature audience.

Leather note predominates totally unisex. Very persistent and projects well. Not for blind buying.

I LOVE IT. I tried it on a blotter and my goodness WHAT A PERFUME. It’s a very very elegant perfume; it is elegance made into perfume. Feminine elegant lots of fine leather. When it evolves it gains so much although even atomised the first time it’s incredible. It’s a perfume I think is more for formal moments office wedding etc. or important occasions or dinners. But I would wear it for everything because it’s such a good perfume. Fine elegant with personality and leather lots of leather.

A perfume I can’t handle; I don’t like musk much so that final union of moss musk and leather is a spicy bomb on my nose. If I wear it on clothes I like it more because the final scent is like rich cream but on my skin it’s a resounding NO. Pity as it’s a great perfume. If you live in Mexico and want it I’ll sell it to you.

La Panthère (not yet part of my collection), but I’ve already tried it. I agree with those who say it retains that chypre-floral air of the Paloma Picasso and Ungaro Diva, though with a creamier, velvetier dry down. It’s a fragrance with immense personality, worthy of the brand; chypre lovers will adore it.

I love it, but… on me it amplifies the scent of makeup: that is, I can’t wear makeup when I wear it, and luckily I rarely do. Apart from that, it’s super elegant, formal, and lovely. I repeat: elegant. That said, it is very stately and characterful.

Some make comparisons with Animale… although they don’t declare any identical aromatic notes, something similar is perceived between both… but La Panthère wins hands down. Its notes are finer and more distinguished; at every moment, different notes are perceived. They are perfumes where, in conjunction, it’s magic, and it’s a bit difficult to decipher each one. In contrast, in Animale I feel the animal note predominates from start to finish, swallowing everything that could compose this perfume. La Panthère is indeed a scent with character, but at times tender; it’s a Panther-Kitten. A perfume that’s sometimes vintage and sometimes modern and elegant. A perfect amalgamation of notes. On my skin, they come and go as a mix of strawberry, anise, and leather… sometimes rhubarb with some floral notes… this perfume for a date or a night out, from something formal or an outfit with leather (but with an elegant spirit)… guaoooo to make a statement.

This perfume is beautiful enough to make one cry. I bought it in a fit of impulse after not meditating on it much, but simply because of the memory of how it smelled and its development on blotting paper. A blunder: on my skin, the gardenia emerges in an overwhelming way, silencing the rest, and the development isn’t to my adoration. For the rest, simply divine, well-crafted, with its moss and rose perfectly united, and with sillage and longevity much more than decent.

I tried La Panthère today, and what a perfumón! I wore it on the back of my hand, and after several hours it was still there intact, projecting as if nothing. I washed a couple of times with water and soap and still feel it active; that is, nothing to reproach in that sense. It’s very peculiar; it smells expensive, like a perfume from decades ago, something known yet at the same time current. That said, I find it difficult to wear; in my case, I wanted to take it off because I didn’t identify with it, and even less with so much sillage; it even became annoying, although I think I would enjoy smelling it on a strong woman in my circle on a special occasion. It certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.
